edit: Don't understand this as a personal attack, but it's unlikely that Spart1e/silencep/exodus show up on ESR.

We cared a lot but certainly didn't give our best. We overestimated our chances a bit is a more plausible explanation.

As for remembering goes, I don't know what to say, I can hardly remember everything that happened after I just played a teamgame nowadays, already focusing on the next one.

I reckon we played japanese castle and that arcane citadel map - can't remember scores but we stood no chance on that fps-drop map and we gave them a run for their money on japanese castles.

My personal conclusion from Expendables at Quakecon 2014 is that it made no sense whatsoever to cheer for you. You got eliminated off-stream, and nobody seems to know the result. Your video documentation would have been the ideal format to recap your tournament, and e.g. to discuss why you lost against welp on Jap Castles, or why you dominated SAKE on Spider Crossings item- and fragwise but still lost. What the video should have provided for the viewer is experiencing your team's passion and knowledge about the game (together with the silly stuff).

Maybe you had this kind of stuff in my mind, but the way it turned out it clearly contains no Quake at all. We literally see ins and zoot playing, which is as irrelevant to your team as it can get. It's very disappointing.

Nah, afaik that one map Arcane Citadel was buggy and caused fps drops. All other maps were fine. Beats me how it entered the Qcon map pool and why most American teams picked it ...

No, *our* idea was that *we* would use our phones / cams to try and tape as many things as possible during that trip so that *we* could find a willing movie maker to mount the whole thing.

Besides, I didn't have any clue if my tablet would render so bad, I'm not exactly a professional camera man or movie editor or whatever the fuck else.

I have said somewhere else on this post that I did go through our demos (yes, I, again, alone) to find elements in our tournament games to implement into the movie.

Turns out nobody other than me gave a fuck about this whole promise/project but me. But that might also partly be because everyone thinks this movie was entirely my responsability when it really wasn't.

The only reason I'm not just saying fuck you to everyone at this point is because I feel sorry for the people who donated but I couldnt give a single fuck to the ones who didnt and constitute the majority - if not all - of the people hating right now.

Off the donations, I must admit I took my share because I didn't have to pay for my room, but I won't let anyone criticizes me anymore beyond this point because I feel like I have now largely repaid what has been kindly given to me.

You sound more like you hate on your teammates rather than the people bashing your movie, maybe because you feel like they are just as responsible for this as you, yet I have this weird feeling you were the one pushing forward the idea with this whole movie project, which makes your teammates not giving a fuck. The donators were supposed to get "nods towards the contributors (with their permission)" and "random bonus included in the aftermovie (personal message from Spart1e or something along the lines, we'll get creative)", but we've seen how that turned out.

Yes, while exo, sil and spartie didn't record absolutely anything, dem0n did. But as it can be seen from the video, he did it without any intention of making a decent docu for the donators/supporters, it was more of a "let me get this off my dick so I can say I did something at least" thing.

As far as looking through quakecon demos goes, where are they? Doubt they even have them. Maybe dem0n does but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I want to say sorry for losing my cool in this thread at some point. You have to understand that this comes partly because of the disappointment this cool project didn't come out as I (we all) had expected.

Everything went wrong and we probably didn't put enough effort into this and I want to apologize for it all. Especially to the people who donated to support us going to QuakeCon with a team of ctfers. Unfortunately we disappointed you in terms of results aswell, which probably came as a result of our own arrogance and we are the only ones to blame for it.

I feel bad about this to a point it makes me sick to my stomach. I can absolutely not go to QuakeCon and perform the way I want to with this feeling in mind.

I want to announce that, if I were to win any money at this year's QuakeCon, I will reimburse every donator who contacts me with their infos with the right amount that was donated.

Eh, dem0n got fucked pretty hard by this whole situation but at the end of the day when you make a promise under your name it is your responsibility to follow up on it. The behaviour of the other teammembers, however, who were the beneficiaries of the donations is very questionable. If the donation initiative was spawned by the whole team then have the balls to stand for what you promised and either throw some money together and hire a moviemaker or make a proper movie yourselves. The "wow" replys just seem completely out of place unless the whole donation thing was forced upon them somehow (was it?).

Also, seems like after all these years people here still don't understand what a donation is. In the end they did go to Quakecon and that's all there is to it. Oh and it has to be said most likely the majority of the critics here didn't donate them a penny.

There's a difference between simply donating to a "cause" and being promised specific "perks" during crowdfunding campaigns.

Expendables used the crowdfunding approach, getting a movie was the incentive for the backers.

In dem0n's defense, it was very clear from the beginning that what backers will get is a phone camera footage.

However, for something to be called a movie, it's usually supposed to have a narrative. Some subtitles at least.

This is more like a David Lynch movie - no one actually knows what we're watching, completely random stuff is happening in non-chronological order and some of the time, nothing is happening at all. All this makes it impossible to digest for the majority, but for some, it's art!

I think what this really needs now is a Q&A with the director where he would throw us some bones to chew on. Not explain everything, just hint at stuff, so people can create fan sites posting theories about the meaning, drawing diagrams of the film's chronology, stuff like that.
