There's literally nothing they can do about it though. The demos use a new version. The new version will be released Soon™.
At least they've released them now so Mr Wolfcam can look at the changes and potentially update before the new QL version. At which point we can already have all of the demos nicely downloaded and ready to go.
Yes you are correct, but the annoying thing is not the downloading (it's just some clicks away when they upload it this nicely), it's that we won't be able to have a chance to organize them until they release the new standalone, which would save a bunch of time, even though we have to wait untill a new version of wolfcam to edit them, which hopefully will be here in a couple of weeks, but most likely will take way longer.
I still thing it was a nice move of them to go public with the new client on quakecon, just unfortunate things like this had to occur. I guess we'll have to wait.
Yeah I was just covering my arse in case zooms were just sent to the spectator and then not written to the demo for some reason. Also there might be additional team info for the new spechud - I'm not really sure exactly what is and isn't sent to clients now.
Given that demos works like this shouldn't it be possible to just splice new information for other players in and have multi-pov demos in Wolfcam?
Any player data you get increases network traffic, and only sending data for people within PVS was also designed to decrease the effectiveness of wallhacking some.
As they added POI markers for everyone on your team, wherever they are, you are getting that data, so you can at least use wolfcam to watch anyone on the team of the demo recorder for the duration of the game.
But I'd be quite surprised if they opened that up any further, except perhaps for someone recording while spectating.
I emailed brugal to give him a heads up about the new protocol. I also relayed some info from sponge over to (possibly) help him get an update out faster.
anyone know when the new client is expected to be released? i initially heard in the fall but i hope we dont have to wait that long until we are able to view these
