"We have a lot of experience with e-sports on the Quake side. To do that stuff well, it takes some focus. And I can see us going down that path when it catches on with people. I think it's a great title for it, and who knows down the road."
lol. Quake was made into an eSport by the community (think OSP and CPMA mods). iD didnt do shit
at one point very close to release in q3test the number of consecutive jumps one could execute was limited to 2 or 3 i do not remember the exact number.
What about Quake 1 and Quake 2 ? even Quake 3, they were on Consoles and yet managed to be successful when it comes to e-sport, they were slow enough to be played on console and at the same time, fast enough to be called " Fast-FPS "
Yeh then why not making Doom this way ? Strafe jumping or air-control or dunno, smth related to that and make it possible to do it on console, i mean, i dont think its that hard to make it possible on console, Doom is known for being Fast and gore, not just heads ripped off.
Those were designed for PCs and ported to other platforms later, whereas Doom 4 (and every other cross-platform title) is developed with regard to control pads right off the bat. Thats why gameplay is so compromised in modern titles, it reduces the costs.
Console FPS games have to be designed like this because of the control input and comparatively lesser skilled players, try playing quake 3 with a control pad, and the game you know and love will lose so much of what made it special.
Maybe they can beef up the PC version or something to exploit the extra control.
I simply don't play FPS on a pad.
Its like driving a car with boxing gloves, you can drive it, but it won't be as good.
For PC master race, its just sad knowing it would take only ~1 day to make the PC version different/faster/tweaked for more pro gaming, and then thrown at the beta testers to try out.
they played tdm 12vs12
double-jump, loadouts, classes, teleporters
he mainly complains about the quad being overpowered ^^
(quad being something he calls daemonic-power. it seems to be a combination of quad+flight)
grafic is good, but not mind-blowing
quad too strong, all players try to pick it up
u can have a good killing spree, but then taken down by quad
Most players @ QCON had a play on the systems they had setup there as we were invited to play there after the duel.
Too bad the systems were shitty, as the dpi was set at 6000 or something, the screens were 60Hz and the game seems 60fps limited.
Looked ok to play, definitly too slow as the double jump doesnt speed you up and the walk speed is too low. The demon or quad seemed overpowered, specialy cos you can't dodge with the slow movement and he has some sort of wallhack feature with a 6shot rocketlauncher.
Apparently they added mouse/kb support a day before the event so we'll have to see how things turn out, most players thought it was fun as I remember but none were convinced it would be a good esports title up to this point.
It's rumoured to have a teammode Doom4 cup at next quakecon so who knows.
I really want to get into game development. I wanna be like the leader of a team that doesn't code or do anything except bark orders at bitches and tell them what to make and how to make it and then game test when its nearly done.
