You can stand in that room. It is perfectly aligned with the stone with runes and the vortex in the sky. Don't know what it means. First thing that comes to mind is it's like a portal or something. Beings from other dimensions... Lovecraft... we see tentacles throughout the map coming out of walls and lava. It may or may not have anything to do with the easter egg.

If this is not the secret I fail to see a reason for it to be there at all.

It clarifies nothing to me, sorry. I'd expect similar rooms on every other map with a sky, but never stumped on one previously.

Most maps probably don't use a BSP skybox, but rather just the standard static image skybox which doesn't require a room to be built for it.

It's really the best I could come up with. It's decompile proof. Kind of an optical illusion making it easy to miss. Fits in with the Lovecraft theme. There are photos of Syncerror wearing a t-shirt with the elder sign which is an icon in the cthulhu mythos. Also if you walk into the lava there is a monstrous growling. If this isn't it I'm stumped.

No, this is not it. hehe. And yes, the tentacles are a 'cousin' of Cthulhu or Shub, but not meant to specifically be either (even in optical illusion form).

in another "whats the elder secret" thread someone decoded the runes into the latin alphabet.
if under the lava cthulhu is like .. "chillin" you maybe have to summon or rather awake him?!
that could be done by shooting the runes in the right order and therefore cast a spell.
