Well, I didn't really try that hard in Quake. And I'm not the person to spam games productively, I'm not in the right mood most of the time, nor do I have the energy. But I have like 2k+ games in dota, and considering how much I watch top tier play and think and talk about the game, I should be at least two thousand matchmaking points higher. Meaning, I should be twice as good.

What is your mmr out of curiosity?

~3k in both party and solo. That's not exactly a fair number here as I've the only times I've actually tried to improve mmr, doing it right, I've improved by several hundred points barely losing games, and then I lose it messing around. 3k is actually the mmr I calibrated at, years ago, when I was much worse, so I do think I'm better.

However, I'm unstable in the most important skills in the game (map awareness & teamfight skill, some basic decisionmaking), so I know that unless I improve those, 4k is unlikely.

Meanwhile I do a lot of stuff 4.5ks don't even do. I thread swap, I do efficient splitpushing, I can farm much more effectively than anyone I see in my games. I do more efficient builds, and I have more hero knowledge, and finally I'm quite okay at leading my shitty teams in voice chat. My mates agree that my game knowledge is probably close to what an average 5k has, but this one is outside the game, as in game I tend to just not use it.

But those are secondary to the main skills, so effectively, they're useless.

Most people recommend thinking to raise your mmr; for me, it's the opposite. If I shut my brain off and relied on my intuition, I'd probably improve much easier.

It's not an irregularity, it's the fact about dota. After you decide to gank someone at time X with what you have, the mechanics of the gank itself are easy.

How could I, a 3k game doesn't make sense, and I don't have the teamfighting ability nor the map awareness I need to pull it of, so how is me being able to predict what will happen in pro games relevant, really.
The funny thing about this argument is I didn't decisively say I have 5k knowledge, and I clarified twice that I certainly don't have it in-game. It's a thing that's hard to measure, but I do think that I have game knowledge better than your average 4k, who routinely flame hard carries who doesn't participate in a fight to splitpush, ask you to pick tanks and do other retarded shit.

Mainly I was referring to two of my friends, one of them is a rising 4k (wins most of his solo rankeds he plays, even though he plays lower impact roles), and another is a lazy 5k who doesn't play much dota 2 anymore (I always know more about patch notes and high level meta for example), but who used to play high level competitive in dota 1.

1. These irregularities exist (finally you admit that)

3. I am one of the irregularities in this specific case. Not always able to show it in-game, no, but I barely play ranked, when I try hard I do win with little to no losses; I mostly play unranked and watch and talk about the game. Interview was meh tbh, not so fun to read about someone who isn't motivated, doesn't care about the community, doesn't have fav players, defines his style as boring...

Props for the effort but try to get someone with interesting input next time.

Well, you know I ask some people if they want to answer my questions, and they sometimes try (after hesitating a lot in this case, and Cyber is the same). They don't ask for it so it's still okay when they give their point of view. Besides, even if the answers don't really please you, they kind of offer an insight about the way the player is, or want to be perceived, so all in all it's not 0% interest.

I'd like to interview a lot of other players like prox1mo, baSe_, because I'm just curious about their story. Can't always have excellent answers and my questions might be a bit irrelevant sometimes, but I hope I'd be able to cover most of good players involved into competitions.

You know, I didn't really care about zanZan being a he or a she. I didn't even talk about it on purpose, for a few reasons :

1) I had the feeling this kind of debate would be coming out, like it's a he, or a she. I mean, considering she's swedish it's even more difficult to tell since they are kind of number one people as far as chosing your own genre and be proud about it :p. That's why the questions are generic, quite the same I ask for every player.

2) I thought that if she was a she, she would find a bit boring that I bring this matter on the table while it's not that important in the end.

3) I didn't go for this interview because I thought she was a girl but because I follow competitions regularly and I've seen the nickname a thousand times already, so I got curious and chose her now as I chose Cyber in late 2014.

Anyway, if it's a troll, zanZan has showed some good games and I have been tricked and fooled, but we'd better be discussing the skill and not the gender.

Don't know why there's a huge backlash against her, she's an amazing player and if nothing else a dedicated quake player. I have had my fair share of duels with her and she's truly remarkable at certain maps, such as aerowalk.

It's a shame she seems fed up with the entire community, which at times can seem disappointing. But generally, we are quite blessed in comparison to other communities. There are still a number of great older players around, keeping this game alive and well.

Without gentlemen of the old era, like pitch in this thread, there'd be no reason for me to even glance at quake live these days. I salute you guys. // prockz
