I've tried everything. In the end I think it just comes down to the limitations of the game engine and its current state of optimisation. There are launch commands for threads but apparently using more than 3 in source can actually hinder performance. Commands like cl_forcepreload "1" and r_dynamic "0" gave me perhaps a placebo feeling of it being a little smoother. My actual fps rates increase with the game on max settings so figure that one out. You can lower resolution if you want which is maybe the best thing to do. I think with a good PC these tweaks give very diminishing returns.

It isn't Quake, it doesn't feel as consistent and it's very CPU dependant. My advice would be to deal with it. If you do find something that actually helps, post it here.

I spent money for cs to try it on my old pc. Back in the day i was playing cod4 with 120hz on crt and it was super smooth... but this? Runs like shit and looks like shit:D. Is it really so nice looking on high settings, or its just shit engine? Maybe its time to upgrade my pc but i dont know if the game is worth this. Would rather buy it for reflex.

Play Quake for your Quake experience , stop Quakifying everything.

What do you think, why do we all are still here playing Quake? You can go and play other games, you may even have fun with those, but once a Quaker, always a Quaker, end of story.

i agree and i wanted to be a streamer, but since i only play quake i cought my self in a trap. You can not be a streamer and play only quake, you will fail.

But i like seeing fazz numbers getting bigger and bigger when he streams. -goodguy, fazz.

-freq 144 in launch options. Otherwise it's a different game, and cs go wasn't created 15 years ago.

this is what i have been using like 6 months+

-console -refresh 144 -novid -threads 8 -freq 144 -high

problem is its reported both ways in that the threads and high can be much better for some or not as good for others, i feel like reflex and tf2 booth feel closer to Quake level of smoothness so it might just be the texture style they use which is clearly smoother

i got a decent 4770k + 970 setup atm

-threads and -high should not have any effect and -refresh got replaced by -freq (afaik).

i don't think the launch options do much except for setting the refresh rate, there isn't much you can do in cs:go except to have 250fps/144hz and enough cpu power to not have frame dips with lots of players on screen.

My setup is technically pretty perfect and I don't think there are any fundamentally different engine-specific rendering traits between the two; input lag is low, input code/handling is more-or-less identical. Maybe there's something to do with different multithreaded utilization (i. e. frametimes) and pre-rendering methods in OGL/DX, but you have to realize that primarily there are some visual quirks that make for the "imprecise" feeling of GO. There's of course more detail in the texturing and that alone makes for a noisier and more jitter-y environment, and then there's stuff such as the unfortunately cheat-protected "cl_wpn_sway_scale". Use sv_cheats 1 and set sway to 0 and mousing instantly feels more precise.

There's also this whole "stamina" system to the movement mechanics in GO which comes with inertia in strafing, slipping around and knee-bending after jumps. This also adds to the feeling of not being able to properly control the player character.
