For anyone wanting to jump on the QW 4on4 bandwagon, now is kinda the time as there's quite a lot of activity. A good start is to join #div99 on Quakenet and see if you can join their 4on4 practice games if you're new.

I think the majority of players are quite tolerant of new players/low skill players (like me) in most of the pickups too.

Are the demos being uploaded anywhere?

Not that I know, however they are stored server-side.

Get nquake, connect to the server in question, then pull down console and type:
cmd dlist thisclan
(list with all demos containing thisclan in their names)
cmd dl XXX YYY ZZZ
(where XXX etc. is the number of the listed demo)
which will then download the selected demo(s)

Demos.quakeworld.nu would be the place to look.
