I tried to watch, but the stream was so choppy. Maybe I was just unlucky and checked in the couple of times it was choppy, but I could not watch a stream that choppy. And it's not related to my end of the connection.
Game is pretty decent... except the dodging is so damn touchy you can't do small strafes you have to sort of commit or you wind up doing something you don't want to do... annoying.
I'm pretty sure there's an option to change the time required between taps to activate the dodge under 'dodge double click time' or similar. I haven't tried changing it myself as I'm ok with the default timings.
They've also introduced an option for assigning a specific button to dodging under 'single tap dodging' or something so you don't even have to double tap.
After 15+ years of double tapping a button to dodge I don't think i want to could relearn it as a single tap, so no idea how effective it is :)
After 10+ years of double tapping to dodge, I was glad to start playing quake and give my fingers a rest with much better movement physics. Last time I loaded ut99 I was in pain within 10 minutes! I'd be happy to learn a single tap dodge to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome.
I'm an ESR user and I play all kind of games all the times.... that being said; sorry but I don't like the feel of UT somehow, it feels weird, can't help it.
but as a casual game with friends, the game is godlike.. simply because it's very accessible (it has in-built movement options + really nice tutorial) and the weapons are very fun.
That's not far from the truth IMO, esp. for UT2k4 with introduction of its admittedly quite ridiculous double-jumping, dodge-jumping, wall-dodging, and shield-jumping.
If UT4 would sanitize its movement, it might get chance to drop that "Quake for noobs" sticker it was carrying for now more than ten years. ;-)
None that I know of, unfortunately, and I failed to find something akin to qlstats.net or ut2004stats.epicgames.com for UT4. My understanding is that Epic isn't hosting public servers for the game yet (there are some hosted by community members though).
In-game server browser should provide some information; too bad they require registration at EpicGamesForum to be able to download the game which I can't be arsed to do right now.
It always seemed strange to me that they've reintroduced Sniper Rifle in UT2k4 while having Lightning Gun already which has a longer reload time but deals slightly more damage per shot and takes less time to switch to/from, thus making it more favorable choice...
SR just does not quite fit among other futuristic weapons IMHO; if they've decided to ditch the Lightning Gun in favor of the Sniper Rifle in UT4 that's kind of weird and sad.
