I really love the sound from q3. For me the sound is very important and in q3 they had a genius at work. Top 3:

1. Quad + Railgun + Hit
2. "QUAD DAMAGE"

Just heard almost all sounds from q3 pak0 and there's no best sound, like half of them are fucking superb. Nothing you can find on any other game, this is just too hardcore.

I'm afraid that new id software's Quake wont have this amazing shit.

This so much. I can't believe how id nailed pretty much everything with Q3. Every sound is pleasing and addictive, everything fits what you are seeing. Sure. the original Quake (which is the first one I played so no "first game bias" had some classic stuff, but Q3 polished the whole package. The sounds just have balls while not being tiresome (like in QW where after hours of playing your head hurts from the distorted explosions).

Notable moments:
-Connecting a railgun + the perfect hitsound sound
-Rocket explosion + loading rocket sound
-Nice and smooth shotgun + loading sound
-The sound your feet make when you hit the floor
-The original VO (3 2 1 fight, Quad Damage etc)
-THE DOPPLER SOUND! How sweet it is dodging rockets? that fucking "wooosh" still gets me everytime.

Damn.

Im not only worried about Q5 (because Q4 already sucked and had 0 balls and 0 charisma), im worried about the FPS that try to replace the gap Quake left in the mainstream FPS world, because they too fail so hard in the sound department. Case in point, Warsow with their dora the explorer tier sounds, or Reflex which feels more sterile than an automatic. You can say there's still hope with Reflex because it's the early days but cmon, let's not delude ourselves there. To get everything right in a game happens only once in a blue moon and are usually genre defining games. Im afraid Q3 left the bar way too high in all departments.

I think the quake community is restless and has turned on itself. It makes sense. A simple Dizzle thread manages to bring us together even if it's retarded and it's basically all we have left. That and bailing out Av3k, which I don't mind saying I really don't care about.

I remember 10 years ago i used to make music with Fruity Loops, i used some Q3, Daikatana and America's McGee's Alice samples in my electro House w/e music i was doing because i thought they were realy awesome.

The Quake 3 sounds and music is unmatched in any other games. they are so so good. IIRC they were made by Sonic Mayhem.

Tho some are kinda wierd in terms of quality, im talking specialy about some player models sounds.

The sound part of a game is a massive part of it (not talking about music). Many game producers spend millions just for the sound production.

e: i think part of why it was so awesome sounds (UT99, Q3, Deus Ex etc) is because it was made by truely motivated artists, the game industry was smaller, etc, it was not just another UT game or w/e clone game we already saw ten times just the last 6 months.

e2: i hope they don't make another Quake from scratch because it is going to be very bad im convinced.
