^ thats probably it. reduce the 'anti ghosting' feature to about half or 60-70%. you will probably not even notice any ghosting even when its set to low, but your image quality wont get shit on.

also tweak the brightness and colors n stuff, the default is probably brighter than staring in the sun... unless thats ur thing.


if its the 248 panel, look for a custom color setting so it wont look ultra washed out :)

really? what options do you use for your iiyama?
i thought using the overdrive function doesnt do anything. i still have very slight tearing (like 0.5cm on screen) in tunnel of hiddenfortress

default settings with overdrive set to +2. it goes from -2 to +2. i sometimes turn that off and switch direct drive on (both cant function at once) but that tends to produce more motion blur. ive never noticed any tearing on 144hz.

what resolution do you use and what you set for com_maxfps?

144 when streaming, 250 when not (cant get stable 250 with live x264 encoding) i normally play on 720p

toyed around with the settings, im pretty sure now its the overdrive +2 but since i seem to get a lot less blur than on any other modes, im ok with it.

The VG248QE has a "game" setting which isn't shit.

Yep that's the model I got.. I put it on game setting and it seemed fine except everything was really red, but I think that was a different setting too.. I'll have to tweak it.

Where would I reduce the anti ghosting on this monitor, or is that an in game setting?

those timers are useless really, nothing ur phone cant do. quake also has its own clock so im not sure why you think its useful..?

Doesn't that monitor also allow you to put a crosshair on the screen? That might come in handy when playing some realism shooters that don't have an actual crosshair and force you to use iron sights or whatever.

And I'm pretty sure this is all done at the monitor firmware level so no way to detect it.

probably your connection, you have to use displayport for modern monitors and 4k

its a 1080p144 monitor, dual link dvi is fine

displayport has higher bandwidth, see if you still have problems on a lower resolution

I dunno about your monitor but my monitor's sharpness setting does some wild stuff on anything above or below default.

also check your videocard gpu/mem frequencies@144hz. They will be much higher than@60hz wich cause higher temps and power cons. Dunno why nobody mention this shit. To avoid this u can work with 120hz on your desktop/2d and 144hz in games/3d.

A bit off-topic but why doesn't more people play with lightboost?

The regular 144 hz BenQ and Asus monitors that most people have all have the ability to be used at 120hz with lightboost.
This simulates the way CRT monitors work with strobing the picture which eliminates motion blur.

Like in this moving photo test the "Q-52" text on the red thing is perfectly clear with lightboost.

On 144hz without lightboost it's alot blurrier. Wouldn't this be an advantage in Quake?
I've heard the input lag increases by like 5 ms but isn't it worth it for getting no motion blur?

Also another question: How does lightboost actually compare to a CRT? Is it even less motion blur on a CRT? I haven't used one in 10 years.

a modern 120/144hz screen barely has blurring. adding input lag isnt worth it, ever. if anything lightboost is more of a marketing thing, same with gsync(but this does have its uses, sort of)

modern screens have a lot of blurring actually, especially at speed in games. lightboost is way better than gsync it just adds too much input lag to be worth using, not to mention it messes up colours. the TN panels seem to just not be capable of lightboost + 0-2ms input lag at the same time, so we have to wait for OLED or some other new panel to be able to incorporate no blur + no input lag like we had on CRTs.

Do you really notice the 2ms intput lag. Most probably couldnt tell the difference.

yep, but 0-4ms is fine, its when its above 8ms that it feels bad (which is what lightboost makes it go to and above).

on my old xl2411t LB lag was quite noticeable, while on my new xl2720z with built-in strobe feature I can't feel the difference.

Thanks to this topic I did a little more research into my iiyama monitor, enabled direct drive which feels good, and disabled overdrive.

Still have the vision master pro 454, it served me well but I needed a bigger screen and one that isnt 20cm's from my face.

I threw away my vm pro 454 and have been regretting it ever since. What are you planning to do with it?

I intend to keep it as spare.

does anyone here have any experience with the 24" philips 144hz monitor? is it similar to benq/asus monitors for quake?

i own it but i have never used benq or asus 144hz monitors. But hey, it's pretty darn good and the TN panel doesn't bother me at all.

I'm pretty sure it has exactly the same TN panel as Benq/Asus does have. Same technology but with different brand sticker on it.

I set mine to 120hz for my 120z monitor.
Not sure what yours should be but you should experiment with it
