I just saw the new Quake Champions thing on youtube, brought memories, and searched for the Just Quake movies to see if I could still find them somewhere.
To my surprise they were uploaded on youtube and vimeo, and there are posts like yours from 2015 or 2016 that still remember them, which gives incredible satisfaction. So just wanted to say thanks and I'm glad that you liked them, keep fragging!

EDIT: Although, outro of f33l is legendary but Final Torture seems more insane given it's length and crazy skill.

Shio never denied speccing. he played final torture 8 hrs a day and you could watch him. Very transparent guy overall. Unlike w3sp who didn't attach a single demo to f33l and did his most impressive runs offline anyway.

You may think of these two grandmasters of defrag whatever you want, but shio had always been way more transparent than wesp.

Well then he's the more impressive player.

For me defrag movies are all about the music, visuals and atmosphere. The execution and impressiveness of the runs themselves are secondary.

The movies are great... I respect the players.. CPMA is a cool mod and it's admirable that the Reflex devs are trying to revive it

My whole point was: It would be cool if they implented vq3 aswell because a lot of people prefer playing it in the same way you prefer playing CPMA

Of course the Reflex devs are free to do whatever they want with their game and i have no right to demand anything....

In the grand scheme of things, these games are not as different as getting punched in the face or not, becoming a deranged coke dealing kingpin or not. The family resemblance between games is very strong and the differences are nuanced and subtle (compared to other activities). Moreover, he's already engaged and participating in the activity of one variant over the other.

CPMAs greatness is surely very visually pleasing and can be highlighted in your face with fragmovies like that whereas the greatness of vq3 lies more in the timing of items, positioning, subtle moves, ambushes and so on things that are not necessarily as easily digested with fast cuts to some wubwubwub.

With gampleay I meant playing it. Gameplay is more than framgovies. CPMA creates better/more midair combo action highlight frags but it also "lacks" in other aspects. Maybe he is not good enough to do those frags, maybe he just prefers a different style of play. Still there is no contradiction between thinking CPMA has the best/coolest fragmovies and prefering to play vq3.

Yes, there is a contradiction. It's true frags are not the whole gameplay, but it's not like they're just this minor part of it, they are the biggest part of the gameplay.

I dont play to see frags or make awesome frags, they are the result of the rest of the game play. Ofc a nice midair is awesome but for most parts that wont happen (even in cpma) and I will happily settle for the mental rewards I get from good positional play and timing resulting in a shotgun frag after damaging the opponent over time.

The awesome frags might happen a little bit more often in CPMA and might even be a little bit more awesome but 99%+ of gaming time will be spent doing other things than fragmovie style frags :). I can enjoy some awesome rocket/nade combo that some defrag god performs just fine in a a defrag compilation movie but that does not mean I would enjoy playing defrag (as much as regular quake), ever be able to do it or want to spend the time necessary mastering how to do it.

If you think highlight frags are the most important aspect of the game then you are probably best off playing cpma since they seem more likely to happen there. Other people might enjoy other aspects of the game and that is awesome too and its great that we have different mods and modes so we can all find what we enjoy the most :)

Whhhhat? Consider the fact that freestyle is done with scripts to respawn you at a position you can define and that shit does not even come close to some of the tricks that are done in the middle of a run on regular df maps or the numerous solo freestyle movies that have come after tricking iT2 let alone the team ones. This trick can be replicated with not so much practice by a lot of the people on this site who are not even defraggers per se.

And then let me refer you to the f33l outro for the craziest solo freestyle you should have seen. Or the last run of the very same movie for quite possibly the sickest most technical plasma work that can be seen. And if you cannot see it for that it is probably because you lack the knowledge/experience in df.

I didn't mean the most skillful or difficult to replicate trick. I don't know enough about defrag to speak on that with any intelligence. I meant that the idea behind the plasma climb by mitsu is like no other.

It's like the double air-rocket by cypher on dm6 pillars against dahang. Yes, there are other nice frags/plays that are more appreciated, especially by experienced players, but the WOW-factor on that one is off the charts if you ask me.

Even then it's not that amazing/unique, it's like a multiple rocket climb. Had it been a horizontal curve of some sort around some obstacle with more shots, then yeah. But as it is it's just a few shots for a straight up climb, nothing warranting wet panties.

Back when I made that trick, there wasn't many maps for such a trick to be accomplished. If there was a ramp that put you over 2,000 UPS and had a curved wall at the end, I wouldn't put it pass myself to have tried something awesome. I was simply trying out a simple idea and out of my 30+ demos, that was one of the tricks that mrks decided to use. That was one of my last tricks I ever performed and I floated away from FS and moved onto improving my RA3 skills.

The trick itself was really easy as you said, but unfortunately my best work was on a run in a map called platypus. Here's a video of from a movie called Spell of Destruction 5.

Also the big BIG reason I quit tricking back in the day, was because scripting became rampant and accepted as legit. I was highly against scripting and/or stitching demos together. Just so everyone knows, I never scripted my tricks!

I bet that's responsible for at least 50% of the Polish players getting serious about Quake.
