so you like go to this military base and defeat the bad guys and collect the blue key and then go this other room and kill the guards and get a yellow key and then you use the blue key and the yellow key to to go through this door which warps you to the moon

and then you wait 10 years and decide that collecting key codes was more fun than shooting things so you make a bunch of tiny office spaces with some pictures of red land outside of windows and call it mars and go around reading emails and typing codes to unlock lockers

and the game should also have this thing where you punch chickens

What a sweet little boy. I remember being that age and also having all these grand ideas how to improve games. Which in retrospect where all daft.

I kinda like the idea of the smoke launcher, I wonder how that will play in Quake. Could make for some interesting situations if you could say seal off the mh area on ztn. :)

Exactly, we were all like him at that age, but fortunately we didn't have internet access. His campaign idea is nice too, a SP adventure with QL movement and weapons would be sick.

I feel like I need to add a subtext to my initial post, since some people mistook it for making fun of an innocent kid doing what we should be doing instead of moaning on gaming boards - enjoying video games for what they are, having bizarre, creative, out of the box ideas that seem ridiculous to an adult person, but in a young untainted mind they all make perfect sense.

Yes we find it somewhat funny to a certain degree, but there is something to learn from this I believe.

I stumbled across this video when I was trying to point out in a doom thread that even quake live can look disastrously slow and unappealing when played by amateur players or just any
average gamer. When I sorted the videos by views I saw this fellow on the very bottom with 6 views and I instantly knew this will be a good example.

Much to my demise, I saw someone completely unaware of the meta game, with that grand idea that he's a big robot just smashing enemies to bits on mars... whilst playing bots in warmup. It was a bitter-sweet moment when you realize that the majority of us who had a chance to play videogames at a young age felt exactly that - a sense of escapism, a whole world of imagination, without any boundaries - no "luckers", cheaters, "LOL UNFAIR LG DMG WTF 6 DMG WHY DOES THIS GAME HAVE AUTOHOP I CAN'T STAND THIS SHIT FUCK YOU SYNCERON YOU RUIN GAME"

Just you and the game, and it felt great.
It was joyful to see someone who has yet to reach the level of bitterness that we're enduring throughout our mundane lives, but at the same time you feel nostalgic and feel the need to fire up one of the first games you ever played, but it just doesn't cut it.

Even if you try your best, you cannot for the life of yours get sucked into a game like the way you used to when you were just a kid.
This was taken away from us, stripped from us.
We feel the need to act like grown-ups, we feel the need to judge things instead of enjoy things.

We are so confused about what we should like and how should we react to things we like. But this kid... this kid has none of this.

Honestly, he doesn't even need a campaign mode.
He makes one in his head, all the seemingly ridiculous stuff that he talked about, landing on the Moon, fighting petty moon criminals, defusing rockets... he doesn't actually need to see it. He's just sitting there thinking how godly that sniper weapon is, shooting stock lime green DoomGuys and that does it. That's the point of the game, to shoot things and have fun.


And yet here we are, grown-ups, feeling all mighty and superior while bickering and smashing our hands against the wall because our sensitivity doesn't feel quite at home when set from 2.472 to 2.473.


And we're taking this pretty damn serious as well!
Screw the meta game, I just want to feel alive again, without any boundaries that were incepted in my mind, just play a damn game without paying attention to flaws but rather enjoy it as an experience, get immersed in it and talk about god damn snipers and moon criminals.

What this tells you that prestige-like system change the multiplayer shooters, they just have to have something similar that CoD "invented" to be attractive to players nowdays, and pretty much ever FPS released today has something similar to it packed in. It's really a side effect of gamers having a short attention span, and need something to work for to keep them occupied with the game on one hand and to sell you additional pixels on the other for something that was free 10 years ago.

If I give you an example, Rainbow Six games always had tons of guns and modifications, but they were all unlocked from the moment you installed the game, the newer Rainbow Six series already have the prestige system in them.

But, back to Quake, in regards to that is pretty bare bones and I guess to us older people this seem perfectly fine and in essence is perfectly fine, but the "new generation" just wants more.

However I can't come up with something, aside cosmethics, that would fit Quake as a prestige system. And even that is pushing it since part of the essence of Quake is that you can modify virtually everything you see on the screen or eliminate it.

So for me, barebones, pure gameplay, no bullshit shooters still have a place on the market, but sales numbers speak otherwise I guess and frankly it shows and id software is after the money. The only one somehow sticking to the old formula is Epic with it's new F2P UT, but I guess they are either true to their fans or just have a hidden agenda somewhere else, might be something id software might look at, a new Quake F2P ala UT might be the only Quake that is viable to expect, really - but new, not Quake 3 rebranded or let them get the idea to make Q4 Live, hehe.

you may like this game then, I am pretty interested in this one.
