Since the game isnt free to play anymore, free for all mode is no more available

I played 1 (one) ffa after update since it was only one I could find.
24 ppl on Longest Yard. Finest game ever. Should be called grinding, not playing.

Apart from that it seemed to be empty in QL in regards to ffa. I don't know hows it now.
Probably people will restore servers in that form or another over couple of weeks.

I know it is looked down upon by the hardcore quake community but is there a filter to find loadout servers too?

The main reason I loved playing QL was to use LG pretty much 100% of the time lol I liked to practice my aim and try to get high LG

I have never a problem to find a populated FFA server 24/7. Like CA.

Yeah there is a lot of CA but I was never a fan of CA due to people being VERY touchy about team limit...if it's 4vs3 or something people get mad and I cba to wait around in spec lol

Far as I can tell, you can't filter by match type. If you want FFA, you need to scroll down and all the FFA games are together. Though...for some reason it's only alphabetical order if you click the little dealie. otherwise it's what can only be described as...instafeeze first order. No idea what kind of ordering would place instafreeze first, but I guess it's not just me seeing this...which explains why so many people are playing instafreeze.
WHYYY? The game-mode with the quickest potential death, and the longest potential wait to be alive again! And at a time when every server is flooded with noobs who wouldn't know how to thaw anyway! I do like me some normal FT, though. And normal instagib. Coffee, good. Orange juice, good. Vodka, goooood. But all three as a cocktail? Well, I assume it's disgusting, so it makes my point. But, if it turns out to be nice, remember, I invented it so I get to name it

Yeah I use the "ffa" filter and there just aren't any servers, like one populated ffa server. Maybe the people who ran the others haven't set up yet or something!

I'm in the process of setting up some servers and I'm planning on having 1 or 2 FFA servers with NO loadouts and 8 players max... classic FFA without ridiculous spam from the 10-16 player servers.

Haha I actually liked loadouts as it just let me use LG whenever but I can see how people that play quake as their main game would find it annoying or just the older players!

It's how I felt when csgo came out, one giant shitty loadout!

16 players servers are fine, you just have to vote big maps like Overkill. Problem isnt max players per server but voting maps acording to the current numer of players in the server.

In an ideal world yes, but when you have 16 players already on the server with half of them happy to play 16 player Hells Gate.

I played two days ago some ffa server (classic ofc) for like 2 hours, i missed it. We played old school maps like hero's keep and such. On Eviscerated i made my first Quad God :)

I will spawn classic FFA server then.

id's European servers went up yesterday finally and loadouts off is the default for the whole game now.

I really hate that FFA has no loadout I don't see why it shouldn't tbh? Now FFA is just bunch of people running with mg, is that why the older players wanted loadout removed so they have an easier time to kill?

Doesn't make any sense, it's FFA after all should be able to use whatever weapon. this change has really put me off the game. I'd play CA but people are touchy about team sizes and I cba to wait in spectate for someone to leave just so I can play.

For me it was beneficial as I don't play quake duel much if at all and I only used to play FFA to practice aiming with LG as I found it fun to try get 40%+ LG which I did achieve consistently...

also that doesn't explain why FFA shouldn't have loadouts? If playing FFA isn't real competitive then why have real competitive rules just have loadout as it's just people spamming after all...removing loadout just makes it what? less spammy?

You can always "callvote loadouts ON" if you want.

I have nothing against loadouts but it should be restricted to rl/rg only on start, lg/sg only for pickup, and max 10 players.

With max 10 players using rl/rg at start u need good aim/prediction to hit. Worst thing with loadouts was those brainless lg/sg whores respawning, seeking low health targets and easily finish them with lg or sg with wchich they just spawned after dying for the n-th time

I must be missing something because every FFA i went to with loadouts was 95% people who couldn't aim just spamming rocket. In that FFA setting rocket is a noob weapon because it's literally just spam no aim or real prediction.

But another thing too, FFA is just FFA...even now it's just MG and rocket so my point is why not just have the good weapons seeing as people are just going to be stuck rinsing one weapon out why not have it be a RG or LG instead of painful MG battles happening.

Nah. FFA is the original deathmatch, the first manifestation of FPS multiplayer gaming. It's quite deep if you are playing with 7 capable players on real FFA maps.

Of course you can. Pick it up and use it carefully.

One of the key part in proper FFA is to earn and keep your weapons as long as possible and be efficient with all of them. Time items (at least one armor and / or MH) and powerups, know where to position yourself to get advantage so you can actively control certain areas, know the good harvest points on maps and run the fresh spawners like there's no tomorrow.

I can do weapon timing/armor timings etc if I put my mind to it but as I said I'm not really an original quake player so for me the game was fun just to jump in and practice LG, not necessarily having to play properly and do all that shit.

I guess when loadout was active I used to try and get as much armor and health as I could anyway, now just need to get lg, armor and health xD

Except on a few maps when overcrowded, SG was by far the easiest way to win FFA all the time.

Which is why tons of people stopped using it because it just made the yawnfest that they'd turned FFA into with loadouts even worse.

-Quake wasnt designed for that crap. You would need to rework the spawn system, maps, weapon balance and pretty much everything else to have a decent game with loadouts.
Btw, I dont think you would see so much loadout hate were they a part of a 'noob mode' available to new players only, along with things like spawn dmg protection and loadout-friendly maps. Too bad the Clueless Duo lacked logic in every decision they made.

-People like FFA the way it is because with 8 and less people, its a mode where all kind of things come in play. You can utilize your duel skills and tdm skills, you can go full berserk, be all tactics and everything in between. Loadouts kill most of that and make it a random spam fest.

-If all you want is some lg practice then just make a server with unlimited ammo, set your /handicap to a low value and you can practice lg aim with your friend(s) all day long.

with no loadouts and too many players ffa deteriorates into mg fights. it sucks. not enough weapons to find something else...

I've set 2 up, just filter 'Skint' on the server browser. Has to be with a capital 'S' otherwise it won't find it. 8 players max.
