It was added a long time ago as an optional server parameter iirc.

I'm sure it was only added with the most recent update.

Correct, it was in the community server update, but had been available in QLTest since August at least.

Crouch-sliding - the best movement element in Quake. But in Quake Live it's broken... Just save initial speed...

Its not so bad once it gets capped (uncapped and you can slide for days). But I agree, the Q4 version seemed to work on momentum but the QL one just lets you slide until the slide time limit is reached

Its still fun as fuck and makes for some good games, but it can be annoying to have insane amounts of speed but have your slide cut short because of a time limit rather than your momentum

Currently its set to 1000ms of slide time which should work nicely

Use a jumppad and perform a jump via +moveup on an edge while you still go upwards, it will catapult you into orbit.

pmove_crouchstepjump 1

This allows you to use crouch on an edge and it will have the same effect as using jump without rampjumps enabled. Connect to any of the servers listed and you can test it yourself.

We added trampjumps because certain jumps on monsoon are impossible without it and it wouldn't be a buttslide cup without monsoon.

I'm well aware, that you can also limit the jumppad boost by +movedown on edges.
My concern is the massive boost you get, when pressing +moveup instead.
For example: On Cure I exceeded the lattern above rail and also made it onto the sg-platform above ya.

Additionally, ql's crouchslide implementation makes silent walk (+speed) obsolete:
+forward = unlimited range, 320ups with sounds, full hitcylinder size.
+forward and +speed = unlimited range, 161ups without sounds, full hitcylinder size.
+forward and +movedown = unlimited range, 282ups without sounds, reduced hitcylinder size.

Its an enjoyable crouchslide cup, its not quakecon.

But either way, in Reflex you can run at 320ups without any sound so I think its a good balance.

The velocities are correct, because you copied them from me. >:)

But you should keep in mind that those speed values meant only the movement in a straight line with +forward and nothing else in terms of strafing, mouse movement or previous speed.
Unlike silent walk's +speed, ... crouchslide's +movedown preserves previous velocity and on circular motion significantly accelerates it.
Which results in a reduced hitcylinder drifting arround the corner without noise at more than 700ups.

Yes I was just talking about how you can crouch walk instead of regular walking to go faster. I dont see actual crouchslides at speed to be an issue.

You have already given your position away with the strafejumping before it, the final second of sliding doesnt give you any measurable advantage, especially as your opponent knows you are around

If a player can use that element of surprise to their advantage then I think thats pretty clever on their part

Crotchsliding has a short range, if hes close enough to crotchslide into you, you probably already heard him jumping right before. No jump, no crotchslide.

I'd like a noise for good feedback as the person sliding and to know my opponent is sliding. But as the other guy said, you cant sneak up on someone with slides.

They might close a 10ft gap with slides without making noise but you will have heard them jumping about before that and if they can somehow use the silence of the last 10ft to make a sneak kill then they fucking deserve it.
