Quake PvE servers.

Have a 10x size tankjr model with 10,000,000 health. The tankjr aggro's onto gauntlet hits, so the 'tank' player can use the gauntlet, face tankjr away from the other players and have damage mitigation runes.

Healers can then heal the tank with the LG and provide ammo to the DPS players.

This is actually great idea to make it heal gun if you shot at your team mates. It may open a dimension for more team play tactics.

Apparently the knockback was changed with 6lg, so that it would feel the same as 7lg used to? Basically now 7lg pushes people around like a motherfucker.

6lg, 200 ammo in CA would be the best thing for now.

iirc they lowered the dmg and knockback then returned the knockback to normal.

when they nerferd dmg from 7 to 6 they increased knockback so it would feel the same as 7 dmg

I think 6 dmg was one of the changes that was good on the overall weapon balance, they could not just win with lg only after that and I'm okay against heartless if he has an offday. The real trouble is that now the community gonna be shredded to pieces with elo, no elo, lg damage, pql, crouchslide etc

I agree with this. Add double damage on headshot for the MG and rail. The MG could even have a spread bloom system that starts it at ~1 and blooms back out to 200 over the course of 3-6 shots.

Combined with tighter hitboxes (just dump Tank Jr to make it viable) it could make hitscan feel a little more high risk/high reward.

although it all goes much more proper with q3 ammo restock system, which rewarded a player for collecting ammo boxes, rather than running over the same gun-spawn point again and again.

At high level of playing, the actual 6 dmg is better.

Before it was an lg spamfest- it still is, but less so.

The only change, eventually, should be regarding the pushback: not it deals 6 dmg with 7 dmg pushback, but it would probably be better with 7 dmg and 6 or 5 dmg pushback.

The pushback for cell is insane and it's the real crippling effect of the lg: when someone hits hard enough, dodging becomes irrelevant because you're crippled in the movement and any minor miscalculation/hazard while timing the attacks or moving around slams you or your opponent to the wall or floating away for absurd hit streaks.

knockback is fine really. I don't get why some people complain about it.

i mean look at the rl, with 1000ups speed and basically all other guns nerfed, it s a really strong choice in many situations considering the fact that it makes you bounce up in the air with sometimes little to no effort (you just have to hit at the enemy's feet). I'm not complaining about rl knockback, because it's fine as it is, but so is the knockback of the lg ;).

You forgot my beautiful 300 dps shaft 50 ammo.

Loadouts failed because they destroyed a game type utterly. But the basic idea of trying to give new players a chance at a kill has basic merit.

Just like a beat-em-up, you don't put handicap 200/200 making all damage minimal to pit a pro against a new player and expect the new player to win a round ever. Sure they'll take a bit longer but the new guy's probably going to spend the whole thing never able to get a single move in. Weakening things makes fights a bit longer in Quake, it doesn't help the underdog.
Some buffs wouldn't change who won overall in QL but it would make things more exciting for the underdogs, without damaging the game overall.

But I strongly believe that just putting the LG to 7 makes it just too dominant though, you'd have to look at tiny buffs to some of the other most used weapons too. RL splash max increase and rail, maybe even a tiny bit for MG and have even less reason to keep the hmg abomination about.

i had a private up for a couple months with LG at 8 (tried also 9/8/7 and 8/7/6) and nobody was using anything else.

I always wanted it to be 7-7-7 but have the range reduced by about 10-15%.

Lol? I think you have that backwards. Players who hit high lg acc have generally been fine with 6 and not complained. Reducing it to 6 hurt low acc and moderate acc players more.

Reducing to 6 helps lower accuracy players, because they will get out-aimed with LG irrelevant if it's 7 or 6, but with 6 rockets become more viable to use where precision is not that mandatory (lower tier players generally do better with rockets), otherwise with 7 damage the trend is to brute force close range LG against rockets and still come out on top, which doesn't make any sense. It comes down to either you can out LG him, or you must hit back to back direct rockets with a small very margin of error allowed, so the player with superior LG just keeps brute forcing close range with a weapon that is not supposed to perform so well in that kind of situation.

Many times it's dumb situation as this
1. I hit opponent below feet with rockets (usually that's a good rocket), he gets thrown in air and started with LG from beginning
2. He maintains absolute precision with a hit scan weapon mid-air which is totally fine, but....
3. I miss an air rocket and that's usually enough for him to out-damage me with 7 LG, if I wait for him to land I lose time and he gets more DPS, if I attempt to switch to LG same scenario

This is when most players in a server are capable of hitting 40 or + .... annoying as fuck.

7 dmg because you should be able to take on an equally stacked player who has an RL at close-mid range. With 6 dmg it's too much in favour of the RL player. But to stop it completely dominating gameplay the ammo should stay at the new 150. If it has to be 6 dmg then up the ammo to 200 ffs.

I don't know if it's a good idea to let weapon damage output cater to making sure that a different weapon choice makes no difference. What you're suggesting is to go in a direction where you'd attempt to make sure that if a player chooses a different (or a wrong) weapon, it kinda shouldn't matter.

If you're in a situation where your LG is not the most favorable weapon, then switch away from it.

yeah your point of view is interesting. I was thinking kind of the same, i mean, instead of nerfing all the weapons, just buff them all!

but when you think deeper about it, it would reduce the effectiveness of dodging, and would make kills faster, which becomes a bit closer to games like CSGO.

so imho what they did with ql by nerfing the considered too strong weapons was the good choice overall.

By lowering the effectiveness of weapons, the game became less strategic. Why? You can't punish mistakes as much, and you can't pull off high risk maneuvers as much. A guy with better aim just whittles you down over time. Effectiveness of dodging would remain the same. Exactly. The current QL weapon balance increases the value of aim and decreases the value of positioning and other strategic considerations. It especially ruins TDM. The rocket launcher in particular is actually very hard to do a lot of damage with due to the splash damage starting at 1 damage instead of having a higher minimum value. Therefore, with a higher LG damage, RL will become more or less useless in a straight up fight against the LG, unless you happen to be a very very strong RL aimer. The solution is to make both LG and RL more powerful, similar to QW, but not that over the top.

yes but with less weapons damages, the fights last longer, which means you have more time to dodge.

for example you spawn with 125hp and you managed to avoid any fight but your hp is now down to 100hp, with 100dmg rail, 1 rail would kill you, with 80dmg rail, needs 2 rails to kill you or maybe rail to mg combo. So even if you got hit by the 1st rail shot, you still have some more time to dodge the 2nd one.

the only area where the starting ammo is kinda problematic sometimes is the 50 LG ammo in loadout mode which features universal ammmo pack.

I likte the current setting, the ammo max cap is the only thing i could see being optimised in some game modes/maps.

personally i just want rockets to be a good choice in really close range. 5-6-7 would accomplish that and imo not shift the balance too much in favour of rockets overall.

One thing that should be paid attention to is the ping we want to balance the game at and what do we want the fights to be like (how long, how much misses, what kind of dodge patterns, distance variety in fights etc).

The nature and effectiveness of projectiles changes drastically as the ping rises changing the game-play alongside it. If we agree on that the balancing point will be at 0 pings then as it currently is the rocket launcher is way-way too fast (and the splash radius too big) for the average room size on current duel maps. The rocket basically travels so fast that dodging them is near impossible (only way to dodge is +back). RL works basically as a hitscan at 0 ping.

When we nerf RL the hitscan weapons will become overpowered and we will need to nerf them also. Nerfing damages will just worsen the current situation. Nerfing accuracies and upping damages would be better IMO: it rewards better weapon choice and positions more.
