VAC bans in "waves" every once in a while, and I'd be surprised if anyone has been banned from QL yet. VAC is good for eventually getting tryhard cheaters banned, but it's useless against griefers. The most common free hack out there was broken by the update, and I don't think the developer has even fixed it yet. There have been a few blatant bots spotted, so some people are still griefing servers with less common hacks.
VAC really depends on the game developer (edit: or players) to find and submit hack binaries to Valve. I assume they probably did that with the common free hack (which doesn't even work after the update), but aside from that I'd be surprised if they've put any effort into finding cheats.
Anyone with custom/paid hacks that have a small user base is probably going to avoid VAC bans in QL for a long time, if not indefinitely.
Support will be ended for QL in the near future, and when that happens there will probably be no one to submit new cheats to Valve. I suggested to the developers they should set up an email address that forwards to someone at Bethesda who deals with VAC for their other games, so that players can submit hack info once QL support is dropped. They didn't seem too interested in that idea, so whatever.

That's good news. As you may recall, when I first asked the devs about this they figured there would be no way of getting new cheats added once support ends.
vac bans in waves only the new hacks they implement, because it works retroactively. if you use a hack that is already detected, you get banned instantly.
QL beta, is that really what it was called? If so, this would be the only game I know of that went from beta to published, back to beta. And then being abandoned :D
