I should reprase that i was warpy with other uses on network, yeah it so frustrating when ur in a super close game and someone fucks it just too look at there facebook :D , thanks :)
Other players see you warp when your packets don't arrive at the server in regular intervals. One common cause for that is when your upload bandwidth is maxed out, e.g. because someone in your network is uploading torrents.
Bad wireless connection which requires retransmission of packets can also cause this.
If you can log in to your router try changing the wireless signal channel from automatic to manual, then try each channel until you find the best one. I found that my wireless would warp on certain channels, but some were fine.
LoL wifi is never warp-free. A "good" wifi connection just means the player will not suffer any downsides of lost packets but will still have tons of jitter and therefore microwarp, i.e. be harder to hit.

Wifi NIC can be configured to remove the periodic scan, so lag spikes are removed (if signal is decent and there are no interference, but that's pretty easy to spot using any wifi scan app on a smartphone or a computer)
Dude, external cable means the cable goes oustide the house where you have the router, and then enters where your computer is, internal walls play no part on it so that excuse isnt valid anymore.
Dude, you designed a house with 2 floors, but i have 1 floor with 4 rooms...
And my router isn't close to the windows is a 1 room away, that means 5-6 meters (that is the center of the house).
I can't move the router from there because this is also the point where the ADSL socket is.
In my situation, the only intelligent option would be to make the cable pass through walls in conduits, that requires time and drilling the walls in some points.
And I would also need 10-20 meters long cables, that aestetically sucks, and because I'm not living alone, I doubt my brother would approve.
These are the kind of stuff that are easily set up when you are building an house, but are like a kick in the balls when your house is set up.
PS: why UTP cable outside??? Outside STP or SFTP is HEAVILY recommended, if you want it to last over time.
All those people preaching about cabling... it's 2015, people will look at you with a weird face if you try to connect to the router with a long ass cable while you can just use wifi, and every house has it.
In most of the cases, you'll be too far from the router to connect to it with a cable. You'll have to shape it around doors and every kind of obstacle.
Unless you live in a studio flat. If you're living in a big apartment with multiple roommates, forget about it. Or a house not built in the last 20 years.
1715 house here (old villa built by an ancient italian aristocratic family from northern Italy, by the time my grandfather restored it (aroind 1975-1980 I believe), it was in ruins).
walls are thick between 1 and 1.5 meters LOL
I had cables when I had 1 computer (mine), now that my brother and my mother have computers, I had to move the router away to better distribute the wifi signal (center of the house), and so cables became impossibile to install
Your logic sucks, people will watch you weird for playing quake anyway so what? What kind of argument is that to justify being a warpity warpy fucker? Fuck mediocre people and their pity justifications.
It's not my logic, it's real life world. People will consider you an annoying fuck if you try to run a cable throughout an entire house while you can just use the wifi that you already must have for the mobile devices.
Unless you live in your mom's basement, but even then i doubt she'd be much happy about it.
In fact, i know no one that uses an ethernet cable instead of wifi in real life. Even heavy gamers don't do that anymore. And it seems to be an inconvenience only in quake live, really, other multiplayer games don't give those problems on wifi.
One is free to do what the fuck he pleases, especially if the alternative is particularly annoying like in this case, so who should shut up are the nazi players that can't accept they sucks and whine about wi fi people.
What? Its exactly the opposite, if youre the one in control you put whatever cable you need to play quake the way its meant to be played, rest are whiny excuses.
"nazi players that can't accept they sucks and whine about wi fi people."
lol dude, we dont whine, we are agasint real life suckers like warpity warping players that makes you unable to hit rail or lg, its you and the rest of wifi warpity warpers that are not addresing it to be able to beat players you wouldnt be able without your wifi warpity warp.

No the living in a basement is the perfect analogy because your mom has already accepted you're a lost cause. While if you live with other people it's common courtesy to not act like a social retard.
And the landlord may have a say in perforating walls and doors and having 25 meters of cable sneaking around just because otherwise some virtual kid somewhere may whine at you in a fucking videogame.
Beside it's all a moot point because using wifi per se doesn't sensibly alter the outcome of matches, what makes people warp is using peer to peer, usually done intentionally.
But "warping" players are a good excuse when you suck in the game your whole life runs around and you can't deal with it. But what if he have a perfect low ping? Then he's a "lpb", while if he has an high stable one he should go to another server since he's raping your ass too much, and if he has the same ping as you "i still see you warp sometimes", i dind't drink enough coffee, i didn't warm up properly, [insert random excuse here] .
Seriously, i don't know anybody, players or not, that doesn't use wifi in 2015. The only difference is that a gamer will spend some money in a quality router and some time in checking if it's working properly.
Wow. Also this, because I came here to say this, this site really needed a reality check.
I absolutely agree with you and my faith in humanity is restored. Because you nailed it. I mean. Cable, seriously? This is not 1990 anymore. My vifi can download vegan recipes and manuals on how to repair vintage bikes AT THE SAME TIME. And I'm talking 2015 chrome sites here. And these people cant play a 1999 game on their vifi? Dafuq and how is this wtf. You need to con-figure out your internet bros. Me and Nexi are giving a weird face to y'all.
I bet some of you neaderthals still use PC. Do you know how much smog and toxic waste is produced just for one PC? Do you even know there is gold in your see pee you's to artificially increase the price? Whats next, diamonds? Also, thats racist. I mean. Hello? This is 2015. Stop using your see pee you's and gee pee you's. Not 1990 anymore. Use modern technology. Buy an Apple machine and if you really need your stupid games, buy the Sega Wii. At least you'll lose some weight. Don't support corporations in making PC components. Dont be ignorant.
I also agree with Nexi about wrapping. Because I mean. Wrapping is good. I always wrap my leftovers before I put them in my fridge. You who dont wrap are ignorant. People are dying of famine. Hello?
If you're about to shitpost something. An internet test said my IQ was circa 140 so I am ever intelligent and cultured. Im not the one at fault here. Put yourselves together and get with the times,as Noxi says.
lolololo kid you even feel the need to see who pluses other posts and talk about it.
I'll leave this for you kid, you should start ASAP to improve your concious level because currently youre exactly what you call other names, saying nobody uses cable in 2015 is so retarded and childish that i need to try to help you and your failed view of the world from your reduced awarness. As you see far from mad, i feel compassion for you.
Nan-in, a Japanese master during the Meiji era (1868-1912), received a university professor who came to inquire about Zen.
Nan-in served tea. He poured his visitor's cup full, and then kept on pouring.
The professor watched the overflow until he no longer could restrain himself. "It is overfull. No more will go in!"
"Like this cup," Nan-in said, "you are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup?"

Like it's common behaviour and like you did too? Sound like i said something that got you, with your zen bullshits. Probably the fact that you know full well that people you know don't use cables, you seem self conscious and insecure about your nerdy nature
Which would be perfectly fine if you didn't at the same time feel the need to brag (!) about using cables to others and dismissing them for their less extreme choices
if you want to be truly competitive and play at your absolute best, get a cable. fuck the social norms.
if you don't feel that strongly, accept the fact that no matter how optimized your wifi is its still only 2015 and wifi and gaming still fucking suck and so do you
fyi, I played with cables until some years ago, and really I didn't feel a difference when I went wifi.
I think you suppositions are still born from unproperly setup wifi networks or considerations of 10 years ago, in which finding a decent wifi connection was really hard.
just to make this thread less pro-troll, let's say something constructive:
For people who has a BAD wifi connection, the things one can do to improve his network are:
1) check if it's really your wifi: maybe your bandwidth is saturated by you (updates, malware, programs in background using the internet, etc) or by you parents/neighbours/wifi-stealers ( :D ).
Here you have various options:
A) kick all other users from your router when you are gaming :D if they let you do so, obviously
B) setup some kind of QoS on your router, many router nowadays have a QoS section to prioritize critical traffic (like gaming, voip, streaming, etc).
Not all firmwares implement QoS well, but some do, like Gargoyle Router Firmware.
Quake Live ports to prioritize are 5222 TCP and 27000-27999 UDP
C) setup/change your wifi password if you have people stealing your wifi :)
2) if it's really your wifi signal that is weak, you have this options:
NOTE: to check if your wifi signal is stable you can check Windows meter but you need also to check if your ping to your router is stable, you may have lag spikes or jitter
A) try to put a cable instead of Wifi, if it's a comfortable options for you and you are close enough or you're familiar with cabling using conduits ;)
B) buy powerline adapters: they are really easy to setup, and they are the closest thing to a ethernet by cable.
Just buy a kit of 2-3 or more adapters (based on how many computers you have to put on Powerline) and put them on a power socket close to your computer, then put a network cable between you computer and the adapter.
NOTE: powerline adapters do not like to be put on a powerstrip. so if you have only 1 power socket close to your pc, you have to buy a powerline adapter with pass-through option, so you can put the adapter BEFORE your powerstrip and it can avoid interferences to his signal.
C) get closer to your router with your pc/laptop so the signal gets stronger :D
D) try to eliminate/avoid interferences: DECT phones, alarms, etc
E) ditch your wifi usb nano card, they have an horribile signal because of the small antenna, and buy or an internal PCI/PCIE card with external antennas, or an USB wifi card with external antenna, their signal is MUCH better and much more stable
if u care a little about ur opponents, instead of only urself, then if u use wifi and opponents complain that u wrap, u have to try ur best to use cable. if it is impossible, then is ok. At least, you cared. if u can do something about it, but u don’t care, or even worse u perceive the wraping as an added bonus that helps u be harder to hit, then not so nice.
wifi here. interestingly, my ping dropped by 20 and the connection became more stable when I switched to linux. Can play youtube videos and quake simultainiously while also living quite remote. I do occasionally get spikes when other people in the household do stuff, but I usually notice that more than my opponents do, and cpma netcode is good enough to compensate most of it.
Windows on the other hand literally can't even keep the connection up while being idle sometimes.
