Make sure you use the 32bit executable, and if you dont use supervisor to manage the process then run it from a screen session. That way it wont shut down if you log out (assuming you use ssh)

Why still recommending 32bit version ? Afaik, it was small time window when it was needed, 64bit works as stable as 32bit (for some time now).

As mentioned. Run in screen. Also you could try
strace -o debug.txt ./whatever

and watch it crash and burn after a day. Probably due to sync error.

My servers were crashing exactly once a day and I had to manually restart them.

Now I run them in a bash while loop so they restart automatically. This may also require sv_idleExit 1 but I'm not sure.

Oh and I use the x86 version. x64 was not exactly problem-free.

Script I'm using is:

I am experiencing the same problem. Anyone know the solution to this yet?
My mappool is empty. Only happens when mappool is empty. According to sponge (#quakelive on quakenet), an empty mappool should result in a map_restart at the end of the map... and yes, it does. But after about 1 day the server SHUTS DOWN on its own???

It's probably worth noting that I am running the dedicated server binary through a detached 'screen' session, rather than using the 'supervisor' tool as recommended on all of the tutorials. My guess for why this issue is not more prevalent, is because most people are using the 'supervisor' tool, which I presume restarts the process when this happens, so nobody notices

My sv_errorExit is on 1. Does this cvar cause map to halt, or entire server process to exit? Maybe this is the problem?

Can't find much documentation about sv_idleExit and sv_errorExit, but it seems sv_idleExit will close the server by the defined amount of seconds if the map becomes in a map-less state. So it will need to be on '1' or higher to cause the loop script to solve the issue we're experiencing.

Not sure what sv_errorExit does though! Some kind of idle->errors equivalent obviously - but which errors? I don't think the daily crash is due to an error - more a bug, or bad cvar..

Also wondering how changing logSync would potentially affect this?

sv_idleExit : probably the time in minutes, 120 is a 2 hour default, so after 2 hours of no players, the server will shut down, 1 would be 1 minute, if your hitches are 1 secone, then you connecting to a new map will probably take 45 seconds +

the server starts loading the next map, before your client has, 10 -> 20 seconds later your client will goto the next map

sv_errorExit - the server won`t shutdown if a error happens, so then you normally get the error in the log if errors are logged

Working around the problem for now by using sv_idleExit 1, with a loop batch script , as recommended by jukkhop -- although their script was not working properly for me.. my script is as follows:
