But it's not so much the netcode as the way people build gamestyles around it.

I don't want to claim that they "actively think about the netcode while making a tactic/strategy" but whenever some situation "works out well for a player" then the player will start to get into that situation more often.

Which (as I predicted back in early 2010) would mean that within several years people would be pretty much exclusively go into fights (agressively) with the LG out. (which is because of the netcode)

I also said in late 2010 or begin 2011 that I wouldn't change my strategy to fit to that because I don't think that quake is just about utilizing the LG best. (a strategy which I probably called moronic / idiotic / braindead / disrespectful / etc... highly likely with some even stronger language which only worked due to the faulty netcode)

But hey if you guys enjoy taking each others shaft in the face... Who am I to tell you that there once was a less gay way to play quake.

that's a very logical thought that used to be fairly accurate.
In a sense it's still accurate, but there is this other major force driving all people to +forward with LG called unlagged.

The problem is that rocket splash is so shit. If rockets were stronger, LG would be less powerful.

Tbh it's just kind of an excuse for quitting. Adapt and conquer. sg for example can work wonders up close with some decent dodge.

I concur. CYPARAL has the best dodge. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen anyone get any damage on CYPARAL in a major tournament

he certainly made a fool of K1llsen's rockets during last 125FPS Sunday Cup on Battleforged at RA (but that was really just a bad weapon choice on K1llsen's part)

using rockets against LG, from the distance he was at, is almost like coming with knife to a gun fight.
But it's also the usual k1llsen gambling, seems that he needs the extra adrenaline even in important matches...

often the best aimers feel like the best dodger because:
a) you need to hit your opponent while dodging
b) if you dodge but don't hit on your own you are just giving another chance to the opponent
c) Being a great aimer overall in quake is a lot about knowledge

Overall I'd say evil at the moment.

I have seen some crazy dodging from Cypher aswell before (jumping over rocket, then ducking under them then side stepping the shit out of everything).

im pretty sure you're doing two-thirds of a single point of damage to armour, and it's rounding up to 1 point, whereas you're doing one-third of a point of damage to health so it is rounding down to 0.

rapha was in a position where it's very hard to hit with lg, and he should've used rockets instead (but maybe no rl ? out of ammos ?)

and cooller obviously was in a position where it's easier to hit with lg, ofc his dodges were still good, but, like i said, don't forget the positions

also rapha never had a super amazing lg

so rapha's not so strong lg + difficult position to hit with lg = this kind of move from cooller

maybe latrommi dodges better in TDM because back in the days when i used to play him on thunder his dodges didn't seem very uncommon/particular/spectacular. From what i can remember i didn't have that much difficulties hitting him.

but we are in 2015-2016 now so maybe his dodges improved since the last time i played him.

and yeah, he's my favorite TDM player. I like noctis too.

The one thing about his lg dodging that i'll never understand is instead of dodging away from the beam like most people sometimes he predicts one step further and makes his opponent miss by shooting over him like fucking neo from the matrix. It was a friendly match between cooller and twister on t7 and cooller messed up and twister was about to lg him to death then out of nowhere he pulls out this insane lg dodge. To explain the lg dodge i have to explain the 2 different types of dodging in lg.

INCOMING WALL OF TEXT
The 1st type of lg dodging is reactionary dodging. This is what most people do since it's the easiest and everybody does it some extent. Then there is prediction dodging which is the best type of dodging but eventually the shaft will get a good hold of you and you will have to "react". Most people like to mix up reactionary dodging with some small amounts of prediction dodging such as a long strafe between a set of small strafes and so forth. Now back to cooller. When you see pros lg dodge it usually looks like the opponent is under-aiming and you are dodging away from the lg because their lg sticks to you better so most of it is reaction dodging. If the opponent is a 1200 elo noob then it will look like the opponent is over-aiming and you are dodging inside the lg because their lg is worse so less reaction dodging. At this moment twister was waving his shaft all over at cooller like a prepubescent teenage boy just met cooller for the first time. The only way i can explain this dodge was that he went full prediction mode. He was predicting twisters lg so good he never even needed to react to it and making it look like twister's sens just changed. The end.

Finally found a good example of what i'm talking about here - https://www.twitch.tv/shane_rapha/v/75840064?t=95m10s . You can see dahang wiggle his lg like a noob and rapha dodge fast but barely move. This is exactly what cooller did but for 1-2 seconds longer.

i find its more making your opponent think you're gonna move somewhere rather than dodging his crosshair

In my experience which aint a lot. But the only thing i can think of is to playing these guys "a lot!", cause then you can learn how they move, think, aim and play the game.

And what Qwih said about the mouse control, makes sense too. but most of all it comes down to practice and loads of it
