so i seek to return/replace it by warranty and/or if it will happen again/not gonna be replaced -

Thanks. Hope you don't take this the wrong way but it's kinda reassuring to know the problem isn't just happening to me. If it's ok to ask, what exactly happened to your model? Mine keeps disconnecting and reconnecting randomly, hence why I thought the cable was bust...

Can you just replace the G400s cable with anything then? I have a DA and a Kana that have worked for about 3-4 years now, wouldn't mind sacrificing one (or both) of those if they're eligible offerings.

Thanks for your suggestions about the replacements btw, the Roccat Kone shape looked like the closest thing but it seemed slightly shorter lengthwise, whereas the G400s is kinda perfect for me in that regard, so I had my worries. I assume the 3090 wouldn't be a huge downgrade from the 3095 either. I'd look into the G402 except I'm worried the sniper button thingy on the left side would be annoying when I'm trying to grip the mouse, I've read a few people saying it's not the successor to the G400 they'd hoped it'd be.

yea, same thing. upgraded to windows 10 recently, played couple of hours, then mouse keeps reconnecting randomly, until the point where usb port rejects it and it throws an error that device was malfunctioning and windows disabled it (code 43) or some shit

i think i held g402 in store once, and didnt like the feeling as well.. was used to g400s shape for decades now, so will be tough. got old mx518 still functioning, only problem is - i doubt i can overclock it on win10 to have 500hz pool rate

about cable replacement - not right person to ask. ash said it needs some tinkering tho (w/ a4tech replacement), so it's not that easy

so, as i went through http://support.logitech.com - i found out ppl have same problems and with windows 10 being mentioned as well.. could be coincidence but it worked on win7 just fine before i decided to update it.

I'm actually still running Windows 7, and I'm having similar issues but not the same ones. I just hear the USB disconnect sound randomly, my mouse dies for 3-4 seconds, then I hear the reconnect sound and it's working again. I guess that would imply a cable problem rather than a driver issue? Ugh :s

That's a cable problem. You can use almost any other cable, just have to make sure the wire order is the same as on the original cable. You can also pick and drop a cable from any other cheapo logitech mouse. A very good candidate for this is the Logitech M90/M100, just get one of those and put their cable into the G400S, done!

Yep.

I'd bet that your computer/drivers/mice are perfectly fine and that the problem lies within the cables, as usual. You can probably replace them with cables from your other mice but I can't tell for sure.

I bought a Logitech G303 at a shop today after trying it out and realising the shape isn't as bad as everybody was saying. I'll try and stick with it for a while, but I'll also attempt to repair my G400s. Your links are awesome, I'll probably get the first one since the extra skates might be nice too.

I'm not 100% on how to replace the cable, but I don't imagine it'd be too hard. Thanks so much for your post, was super helpful :)

These cables would work flawlessly even if the wire colors aren't 100% the same. 1000hz default etc.

Ah yes, you're right, the G400s is almost identical to the G400 actually. Not difficult to change though but you prolly won't do it in 5 minutes.

The extra skates aren't necessary if you remove the old ones carefully and use some powerful glue after that since this is the first time you'll open the mouse, but I thought you might still be interested by that kit.

Worth noting that I picked up a G303 today and I've been using it for a few hours without even the slight hint of a problem, somewhat reassuring as it confirms the problem was with the G400s cable and not any sort of driver or OS conflict I'd be unsure of how to fix. I'll try some of the links above, but I have no idea how I'd replace a mouse cable, even though I don't expect it to be too hard.

The G303 is a good mouse, and I'll continue to use it for the time being, but I don't think anything will replace the G400 shape for me.

Made an account to just comment on this, g303 is amazing but the cable is the same one the g502 uses, it's garbage. Coming from a g400s myself the cable is too heavy, stiff and without a mouse bungee any contact the cable makes with your surface causes allot of drag, I would recommend replacing the cable anyway if your serious about gaming, worst cable i've ever seen.

I can feel the superiority of the sensor compared to my G400s, the drag is something I've felt too but it's not a huge dealbreaker for me, perhaps that'll change with time though, who knows.

The main thing I've found to be awkward is the shape, seems like I can't get the same level of control over the mouse because my ring finger is in a slightly less "natural" position. Not sure if it's the type of thing I'll get used to or the type of thing that's gonna annoy me for eternally, but I guess I'll find out.

You would be amazed at HOW EASY is to open that g400s and replace the cable, you dont even need a soldering iron.

I had a G9 and mantained it alive for more than 4 years, just by replacing the cable.

USB cables are really simple, just 4 conductors, VCC, GND, tx+ and tx-, and the g400s's cable is not soldered to the pcb, and it uses a pretty common connector for the usb cable inside, it just gets easier and easier.

Its really strange how you managed to kill 2 g400s, I had one for 2 years, bought it on release day, gave it to my brother who still uses it.

I mean, your "bad build quality" argument has no base, the pcb in the mouse is high quality with good soldering, it uses decent connectors where needed, the internal cabling is robust, the plastics are thick and resistant, none of the parts are loose or rattle, the coating is legendary, I actively tried to scratch the mouse with various objects but the only things that could visibly scratch it where some metals, concrete and sandpaper, it uses a similar coating to rubberized smartphones on the sides and the top blue plasting is very robust. Mine had the dpi down button malfuncioning, I just opened the mouse, removed the supporting cap of the button, and cleaned the metal pad with isopropyl alcohol, it works flawlessly to this day. I ripped the mouse feet once, but the replacements are 4 usd from takasta. And if you have problems with the cable, you can just check the cable, remove the broken bit and tape/solder it toguether again, you can even replace the cable with any other usb cable by soldering/taping the pcb connector to the cable and using heat-shrink tubing as stress relief. That mouse is a true workhorse.

the cable issue was common with the g400, the g400s has a strain relief on the cable exit, and that is why it is virtually indestructible, and user complains about the g400s are really uncommon.

Im 99% sure that you dont treat your mice propperly, you setup your mice in a way that you pull the cable or it gets caught on something, you should check that

yes, usually they let the cable freely hang down back at the table.

I don't know whether or not I'm treating my mice "correctly" or not, but I've owned 8 mice. 3 of them have broken, they were the G400, and two G400s mice respectively. I still have a Zowie FK, a Deathadder, a Kana v2 and a Kinzu v2 Pro that work completely fine (the Deathadder is 4 years old) - and now the G303.

Maybe it could be something to do with the way I'm moving the mouse since I grip the G400 shape differently to anything else? I really don't know, but I highly doubt I'm damaging my mice as I use them as I have a wide variety of different mice from different manufacturers that still work perfectly, that's why I'm inclined to believe the mouse itself is/was at fault - but I could be wrong.

What you folks could do is buy a braided aftermarket Logitech cord (G5 perhaps) and modify it slightly for your G400. You can find that cord for less than 10 euroes including sjipping on ebay. You will have to re-solder two wires at the white connector if I'm not mistaken. Just make sure the colours check out with how it was. Worth it in my opinion.

no soldering required, you can just pull the wires out of the white plug, and reorder them so the colors match the original layout. :)

I would look for a deathadder 3.5G cable for replacement tho, and remove the "braid", then you'll have the best cable anyone can buy for a mouse(if you leave out the DIY-cables):

Just bumping this (yeah, kinda late, sorry) to say that I managed to fix my G400s through a three minute operation that involved me simply disassembling my mouse, threading the cable further back into the mouse, and then reassembling it again.

Did this 3 months ago and forgot to update since then, and it's been working fine the entire time. I highly recommend this to anybody who has a broken G400 or G400s.
