Sets rendering method.
Valid settings:
-1=skips drawing
0=uses glDrawelements if compiled vertex arrays are present, or strips of glArrayElement if not.
1=forces strips
2=forces drawElements

There seems to be some issues with AMD cards or the drivers not using glDrawelements when it's set to 0, so a lot of people with AMD gear are saying they're having issues unless they set it to 2 manually.

I get drops with nvidia as well. GTX 780 atm, think I probably need to get a 980 Ti to run QL at 250fps

its not modern game that needs support latest directX so i am sure quake live don't care about your gpu. Quake live using ancient technology and i think quake live only works on single core of your processor. so if you are have like 150 cores with only 1.5ghz you will have issues and new gpu cant helps you. You need cpu with better single core performance or just overclock.

Not being a comedian at all. It is funny though, that's true. I've overclocked the GPU and CPU now, 4.6ghz i7 4970k and my GTX 780 is running as fast as most GTX 970s. Still get FPS drops though.

Maybe it's coded to ignore functions if you're using amd.... like what maxon did with cinema 4d /cinebench.

this bug is present since amd fucked up drivers for several card families along with ati catalyst few years ago and has impact on all q3 engine based games

goddamnit i rly wouldnt like to run QL on vertex ffs.

If i set max fps to 144 I'll get drops down to lets say 130.

If i set max fps to 250 then i get drops down to lets say 240.

Seems odd.

Might be due to your CPU not beeing beefy enough for QL.

everything ran smooth with same processor only i had tiny7 and radeon 4850.

i have E8400 3ghz dual core, 6MB cache help also... it is old but it ran quake smooth before.

Maybe it's a GPU/AMD driver issu. Maybe QL is so low on GPU ressources that it stay on very low frequency.

But you can try. to Instal win7 back in another HDD if u have one spare and try with the new AMD GPU.

e: instal a GPU monitoring software and see if when u have drops the GPU frequencies drops too.

hmm sounds interesting, i will try some things with the GPU and lets see what happens.

Framerate fluctuate 100-125 in window. Stay 125 fullscreen, but skidaddle on map like Corrosion in fan atrium. All other game is good: QW, CSGO, UT, HuniePop... all is no drops. Only QL. Is horror.

i think it's pretty standard. i'm on an i7 @ 4.9ghz and r9 290x, and also get fps drops using lightmap lighting. the only way to avoid it is vertexlight and lodbias 2. :]

how can it be standard ... quake ran smooth as a babys butt. I suppose its the gfx. I need another gfx to try it out.

ok, to be fair, i was talking about a constant 250fps cap on a full 16-player ffa server. try that on maps like quarantine and corrosion around the lg area or asylum around plasma, you will get fps drops. if not, please upload your config somewhere, i would love to check it out. :]

The most demanding official map in QL is Silent Fright.

Try to disable some services and tweak your Windows 10. These videos might help:

Also install and run "CCleaner" + "CCEnhancer" or other system optimizers like "TuneUP Utilities" or "Adanced System Optimizer".

Force your your cards clock. It's being put in sleep mode because QL is that low intensity.

it seems i can't lock GPU in crimson drviers, i need to look from which supplier is this gfx, so i can download some overclocking prog.

In Crimson drivers i tryed overclocking GPU, specifically for Quaklive (just for 100mhz), if that will stabilize/lock gpu mhz going from idle 300 to 1100. That didnt work,

...then i tryed setting harder settings, like antialiasing 16x and stuff like that, that didnt help,

... then i set same settings, but in "for all games" section. And i managed to shift manualy the speed of my fan, thats about it.

Quarantine looking up to top from 2nd flor still 110 fps. How many chances there are this is drivers fault?

Are there any "omega" drivers for AMD out?

Use a third party app from one of the card vendors like xpertool or something like that.

GPU overclocking isnt the anwser... CPU clock is.
