While he won 2 or 3 major (international) LANs in Quake, which is a really nice achievement, the problem is what he did after that.

Things that come to mind are him calling "world championships" things like showmatches (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF169CJMe54) and tournaments of games that nobody played like Alien vs Predator (there never was footage of that as well), rigging tournaments in Quake 4 (https://youtu.be/O0qYOHgi8UM?t=2271), raging in public play and so on and so forth.

His personality is the problem, his actual achievements are not.

I do like the guy though. After all he's done more for e-sports and for Quake than 99% of people in here, including funding tournaments and sponsoring players.

Guy is a capable player who established himself in various different environments. Different games require different skill sets and yet he was always up there giving everyone a hard time. He was never about pure skills, not to me anyway, but his confidence and sheer will to do well are things that I admire.

I think people who hate him are simply the ones who cricticise negatively everything all the time, a lot of people have this mindset. Look how Zo0t was bashed for no reasons. Also It doesnt require as much as today beeing top 1 in games when noone was playing for a living compared to today. I even think today this would be just impossible.

Fatality worked very hard and got good results in his time. Some people try to downplay him because he had to play so much to get good, and then faded away once everyone else caught up.

You can say what you like about the guy's talent and current abilities, but when he was winning on the day it was down to skill.

The one thing that really demonstrates fats playing style is when you consider the 'golden age' of quake with all those amazing frag movies coming out featuring players in all the major international tournaments doing amazing frags - fat is oddly absent from them all. I think this is just down to his rather boring A B C style of game, rarely taking risks and just holding control from a distance. I can only remember two pretty decent rocket frags he did, unless someone can remind me of more.

Yes, there's the one on a¦citizen in Just Quake, and that's about all I remember of him.

Fatal1ty never trolled a player or called him names or talked smack about anyone his entire career. And to say he isn't one of the best I'll never understand.

Even at WCG 2002 USA ( a low poin in his quake 3 carrer) where he didn't quality, he was beaten by socrates who at the time really had his game on and came in 3rd overall at WCG 2002. Fat lost to him by one point. And Cooller, might I add, lost to him by one point as well at that tournament.


I don't get these random 'lol' troll comments either, which is exactly what they are. People post these but never go into any depth as to why they think that way, outside of inventing their own views why he was a cocky player. He has done more to help the community in terms of sponsoring others than any other quake player I can think of.

And maybe toxic got nervous and fumbled? It happened to czm during his final at eswc 2005 against cooller and it happened to Voo at the 2005 PK finals. Also, I never really got the whole angle that he was only 'good' when the game first came out. He started q3 touranments in 99 during the test and got 3rd place 3 years later at quakecon 2002. He was one of the most consistently good players during the first 3 years of quake 3.

Next thing you know, tox changes his sens just before final game was about to start. I think that's pretty much enough evidence to point at foul play by Tox & Fat.

I don't see anything about the game that was staged or any evidence pointing to this, and fat didn't win. And both fat and toxic have denied it. Regardless, the end result was a win for toxic, even if fat took some maps from him. We can ponder conspiracy theories, but I don't see it worth pursuing if toxic won the finals.

Fatal1ty fits the American stereotype perfectly. Incredibly individualistic, confident and self-sufficient. The ideal qualities of a successful sportsman. The way he draws upon prior success in order to further his business goals (even while he was competing) is definitely cringe-worthy but his Quake 3 career still stands as an important milestone for competitive video games.

What's so individualistic about him when he's helped multiple players or has sponsored many events and tournaments? Please name another quake player that has given back as much as he has? What makes him more individualistic than a cypher, rapha or cooller that has won hundreds of thousands of dollars (and possible much more through sponsors) through tournament prize money? Have they personally done anything to give back? I don't know, maybe they have, but I don't think they have. If they have, please correct me.

And what's bad about praising past accomplishments? why does that need to be tore down? Why can't he talk about that UT2003 tournament that he won? Or the 3rd place in the same game he got 7-8 months later? What's so bad about him talking about winning the 150,000 dollars at the PK finals? I don't understand why he shouldn't talk about this and censor himself. Who the heck in any sports doesn't talk about past achievements?
