Hello everyone,

I have been playing Quakelive for a long time now, and I would like to switch to Quake 4 just because it looks better, so I am wondering if there are other players online that play multiplayer gametypes? Is there a place where one can see all the current online servers and player numbers, before installing the game?

You can ask drejk probably he seem pretty open for playing 1v1 vs people. http://www.twitch.tv/drejjk think there's a mod you need to install first, maybe someone else could help out here.

you'll need q4 1.4.2 and the competition mod that was used in i32, wsvg etc which is q4max 0.82

Quake 4 has been dead for a while now. If people would play I would likely go back to it. imo. Most fun quake I've ever played. Reflex now replaces that feeling for me. Never felt that way about quakelive.

right click in the editor in a sub menu under [ team ] -> vehicles -> gev tank or a walker

vehicles are FFA in non team games

you can make your own vehiciles with ease, or there are some automated turrets that sometimes work

you have reactors or the reactor gametype

right click in the editor in a sub menu under [ func ] -> func_liquid

the description keys are missing on the entity editor, but you can add the follow

density "afftects the speed of entities"
buoyancy "buoyancy, any minus value will sink to the bottom"
damageDef "damage def to use when out of air"

right click in the editor in a sub menu under [ pickups ] -> powerups

there will be the god power up

probably some other stuff i can`t remember

you might need to use Q43A launcher to config your server, some options arn`t in the main menu

theres something really weird with the teles after exiting i cant seem to be able to move forward only sideways, looks really funky. just try to strafejump thru a tele and youll se what i mean

Nobody is sitting on Quake 4 servers except for maybe Revan. Drejk and Bamofu seem to play it. I play with some friends from time to time.

There was a quake 4 irc channel that I have forgotten the name of with a guy who was down for games too.

If you want to play install the mod Q4max

Its also worth noting that in the next patch Quake Live will have crouchslding as a server option. It still doesnt have Q4 maps, but its definitely going to bring me back to the game

Really? I know phylum was playing with it in test but I didnt know if it was actually coming over.

I asked him recently and he mentioned something about him just messing about with it and it not being part of the actual release for some mapping reason I dont understand

Delicious. I would love to see placebo effect make it over too. But I can definitely uninstall Q4 when this all happens

I wonder how the jump to mega will work on monsoon in QL. The different tele physics and the lack of ramp jumps might ruin it a little

^I'm replying to this whole chain here.

The new version of QL doesn't come with many(any?) new maps, but it does add workshop support so anyone can upload new ones and run them on servers. Monsoon is currently not on the workshop - I was playing games on it before the Workshop integration was finalised.

In an update since then QL no longer supports Q3 bsp files, so I can't just run the Q3 version of Monsoon any more. I tried changing the 5th byte to the correct version but it still won't load. I'll work on porting a few maps though, including Monsoon and ospdm8.

Crouchsliding is a server setting. Ramp jumps are also a server setting, although it changes stair jumps a lot. There is no option to shoot through teleporters or bounce nads up jumppads, and that won't be added.

You'll all find out how this works for yourselves pretty soon though!

I rented mine through gameservers and you can request they install the Q4max mod for you.

Not sure how to do it anywhere else though, I dont often rent servers or host my own. Whoever you rented it from should have given you ftp details

i`ll upload an all in 1 pack of Q43A for you, just have to use Q43A launcher to make a server config, to upload and put it in the Q43A folder

then set mod and exec the server config on your control panel

the pack will have keel player model and the fallen shrine map, cos its the biz, some of the teleports are dodge but it still kicks ass on CTF

run on windows or linux

just put the Q43A folder in your quake 4 folder

c:\quake4\quake4.exe
c:\quake4\Q43A\

if needed, the default gravity is 825 for you server config if you get lost and can`t reset it to default

i recoded 60% + of the sdk, cleaned up aload of files, nothing much works, unless you mod Q43A files

set your fs_game to q43a and restart your server and you will be running on Q43A server but it won`t be listed on q4master because its banned

put the server config in Q43A folder

and then it should be like

+set fs_game q43a +exec serverconfig.cfg

and you server will run using the config in the above post, you don`t need to setup external url`s and websites if you add new player models or damage sets and maps, client`s without the pk4 will always download then directly off the game server when they connect

Q43A is just as bad as Q4 1.0 - much closer to the reason why noone plays Q4. Q4Max is the one thing that makes it playable.

i doubt you have ever played Q43A, all the netcode is recoded and why it can handle a possible 128 players and dedicated server windows will have minimal hitches

server and clients run the code needed and no other code, that is synced through snapshots or sent as messages, all the bugs have been fixed, and hitscans have been replaced with full projectiles except on the lightning gun

all lights work along with fog and forcefields and trigger switches, etc etc etc etc

then you can have vehicles for CTF fortress turrets, and full custom player models etc etc etc

that q4 failed had nothing to do with q4max, xbattle mod or q43a.. the game was way ahead of the machines at the time.. ppl with best computers had 40-50 fps. i never tried q43a but afaik q4max was the only mod that made the game feel a whole lot better.. but unfortunatly too late :(

I timed building a new rig with Q4, so my framerate was always solid. You are correct though that the game certainly did not run as smooth as it should have (and lol 60fps cap is enough (c) idsoftware). Lack of optimization and a lack of competitive features. The gameplay was actually pretty good, paired with a bunch of new maps I had a good time back then. RIP Q4 :>

nobody tried q43a, i started it in 2011, the last release of q43a was in 2013 if you get the moddb release

since then the internets has been full of twats who can`t even get a mod to work

not even if they load on the main menu of quake 4 in the mod menu and start a listen or dedicated server or just play bug filled all the code works through single player

single player bugs are all in the maps and map scripts
