Same here, im getting a massive framedrop on FFA on big maps... jesus christ, this game should be running at 125 fps at all times, im not even trying 250.

is what you want to kill the blinking you mention.

check things like com_idleSleep 0 again too.

thanks i fixed that , but the main issueis the fps drops for no reason, it used to run smooth, now i have no idea what changed.

Is there any steam change related to graphics?

My first suspect would be a hud problem, if you use a custom hud, run some tests with default hud first.

They have decided as this is considered a 'new' release, to take the decision to block r_subDivisions now though, this stops lots of parts of maps letting people look through walls, but could potentially calls slightly lower FPS on old machines (it's the cmd that let you stop it rendering more curved areas such as archways)

Im experiencing these FPS-Drops on everymap now.

I turned off post-process, tried around with idle_sleep,
changed resolution, redownloaded default cfg.
Nothing really works thus far.

If it is really this r_subdivisions would there be anyway to improve fps again?
As J1gglypuff I never had any fps drops, not even on Asylum, Quarantine and the other usual suspects

If you have a core2duo or better CPU and an Nvidia or AMD GPU thats at least as good as a nvidia gtx 460 (old) I really really doubt it's the subdivision changes tbh.

Well its an Nvidia g-force GT 240 so maybe thats the problem,

otherwise its an AMD dual-core 3800+

I don't think they'll reverse this as its been an annoyance for them for some time.
I don't yet really think it's the cause of fps problems some have either as I've heard from people that ran comparisons on old ql with that var set too.

When I'm back at a machine I can check default var setting changes since the change and try some things on my old laptop too, my desktop had no problem with the beta.

Im glad they made subdivisions stuck at 0 where it looked with the best curves to be honest, everyone should see the same map geometry.
Maybe this is why im getting lower fps tho.

Callvote (and the alias cv) changes :

    use just "\callvote" to list options, but here are the new things -

    callvote <thing that needs options> will list the options available.

    callvote map <mapname> <factory> - vote for factory (game mode) as well as map
    callvote loadouts ON/OFF (default off for most things including FFA ! )
    callvote ammo GLOBAL/WEAP (universal ammo on/off)
    callvote timers ON/OFF toggle the floating pie chart item timers 
    callvote weaprespawn
    callvote fraglimit
    callvote timelimit
    callvote clientkick - lets you kick by a clientID but will show name and not number in the vote people
                                                       see now so it's actually useful.

/players now shows steamID for the players as well

Voice comms - set up in steam settings -> voice, then
/bind v +voice 
(v is the default bind)

In team games once the game has started only your own team can hear each other
                                (unless the server sets g_allTalk 1)

ESC - administration menu gives you per player mute option (blocks their text chat also ) or use \clientmute

with the game not running at all, In steam right click the game and do properties, then go to the Updates tab

and untick 'use steam cloud'

then delete (or just move away if you're concerned about them )

qzconfig.cfg, repconfig.cfg

and rename autoexec.cfg


that'll ensure it's fully running clean, so try again then.

(while you're there may be a good idea use the disable background downloads option on that same tab to stop interuptions lagging you while you play when this is fixed :) )


If that worked, then try letting it run your autoexec again, and if that gives MAX_CVARs error, you need to start cleaning up your cfg.

Dont delete qz or rep. Go in an remove about 60 prrcentprocent of The ithosein thok files.

Save and start quake. Its bcause ur config is too Big.

if you happen to have MS Office -

control panel - programs and features - find the listing for your copy of Office , chose change

when the installer comes up select the option for adding/changing features,

look for 'fonts'

and if it's not installed, install the 'universal font' - with Office 2010 at least I did NOT have to dig out any install media to do this.

this one seems to get picked up by QL, and will vastly improve the unicode handling in it.

eg.

(&#9583;°&#9633;°&#65289;&#9583;&#65077; &#9531;&#9473;&#9531;

is perfectly valid unicode, but shows mostly as &#9633; (boxes) within (QL only) on my system (windows 10 default install) without that extra font installed.


edit: awwww, I can even see this correctly when editing my post, but on the ESR page itself none of the unifcode works....

What? You mean that command that never worked and when it did it stopped working the next map?

Looks like /clientmute does that job now, seems to kill both the audio and text.

Also available when you hit escape under the admin menu. You can mute, invite, vote to kick and view profile from there as a regular player.
more tools there if you're a mod or an admin ofc.


That's quite annoying though, need to block voice far more often than a users text chat and not being able to separate the two can mean missing important things :-/

perhaps you haven't noticed that when muted people tend to leave the server, no-one likes it if no-one can hear/see anything they say/type.

Is r_swapinterval 1 working?
It does not show your current monitor hz instead of dps when cg_drawfps value is 1.
This was what I used to check my monitor was working at certain hz.

The command should work cuz it's listed in the settings menu as vsync. Even r_finish do exist to make it even better ;)

If you like the old style way of having teammate names come up when you have your crosshair on them you need to mess with :

Whats the difference between cg_specnames 0,1 and 2?

0 they're off always
1 the dark grey box and the name is only visible if you're looking roughly at them (including through walls), health/armor always shows .
2 the name, box, health and armor are there always no matter where you're looking or what is in the way.

If you guys are still having the frame drop issue, I've finally managed to fix it :)

before the move to Steam, ql ran at 250FPS constant, no jitter, no nothing

After port to Steam it ran at roughly 90 - 124FPS - Larger maps + more players the worse it got.

So the one and only thing i did to get 250FPS constant again is:

Steam > Settings > Beta participation > None, OPT out of all BETA participations....
