I played a few matches online, its not unplayable but its not amazing either. It is a semi-functional game and I had an alright time with it, but you are right that its not that great.

I did the same thing. It took me an hour an half to get it to work and it was kinda cool to get a peek at it but in the end it wasn't worth it.

Q43A fully works in MP, the single player is full of bugs, but they are in the maps and map scripts, not the dll code and all the recoding to add all the new features and bugless netcode and 128 players

never tried more then 16 players, so i don`t know if the engine uses the same define, but its possible to have 128

vehicles fully work, water fully works, strafe jumping full works, projectile coloring when passing through water works, water air ticks work, full custom player models work, everything works with no FPS loss

Q43A is single player, multiplayer, windows and linux all in the same dll, most quake 4 maps for the retail campaigne are buggy, so you best off making your own for Q43A single player, and still get holysin, AI death view, water, etc etc etc

build the windows sln, and copy the same files onto linux and then run scons, without having to code everything 4 times

if you have holysin enabled, some random AI will be on fire like in this video

I have to admit, after i played doom i joined my main online game (source engine, not cs lol) and the maps loaded much longer, so there could have been a problem on my end. I still have doom on my hdd, so maybe i'll check that again later.

Exactly. For me a deathmatch game sucks no matter what, if crouch doesn't affect jumping. I'm just used to it from my first online game, and as i said before, the doom alpha even just toggles the crouch. So it's hard to say if it does affect jumping, as there is no function in the menü to turn the toggle off. If they don't implement it, this is a singleplayer game for me at best.

I have done a quick test. If you try and do quake strafing you will loose speed. However if you hold forward and do a turn just like a strafe jump(without strafing) and jump, then you will gain some momentum. And then just as you land you jump again while only holding forward you will kinda perform some kimdoff bunnyhopping. It did feel like i reached a higher speed, but notnsignificant.

Felt like a dumbed down hold forward gain little speed bunnyhopping noob shit awful crap.

However graphics were great and the sounds even better, i was testing with a fairly decent headset , philips x2, and i was fairly impressed by the sounds.

This alpha ran fairly choppy and sluggish with my 780ti card, but its an alpha, should be better. Fps felt like 45-60 , all maxed out including aa.

Its definetly a noob friendly console game. Such a shame, a few tweaks to speed and movement and it could be a great game.

it aint that bad, they can sync the mouse server side, for release, i can add strafe if a SDK if released, instead of having to use strafe keys like in Q43A which stops you being able to strafe around bends etc

you probably could if you got a velocity midi controller, 0-128 midi range, instead of always 128 you have with a keyboard

for rage and bfg they added more graphic settings with a pc patch i remember.

depends on the perspective. comp player vs fun player.

call of duty / crysis mp established new school elements, things that are fun (satire for me) but Overpowered you cant really counter. unbalanced fun. look through walls, bombs from above, highspeed knifing. to get modern new players this is important. the idea to play a monster is from the d3 mod fragging free.

besides what all think here. the expections of a multiplayer are just to high. its not a quake substitute (it isnt) and its clearly driven for consoles (not my favorite direction but this is okay from a sale point). they never said otherwise.

i have just played some online multiplayer . Combat speed can actually be slightly more hectic and faster then quakelive. But moving around the map is fairly frustrating for a quake player. I am bunnyhopping all over the place, but the speed increase is minimum. Also if you touch the strafe button you will lose all speed instantly.
Which means that im running around constantly holding forward until a fight begins and i start to strafe.
Also it has alot more air movement and quicker turning speed then quakelive/quake3/quake2, not close to qw/cpm standards tho.

Jumping up stairs , onto fences etc gives you a speed boost, basically only times it feels like your actually performing a bunnyhop with real added benefits.

But with the jetpack airjump and climbing makes this game alot more enjoyable and i give kudos to them for these added aspects of the game.

In quake3/ql even tho i love the jumppads , i didnt like how few stairs etc there were in the game, made the movement up/down obstacles less of movement skills then what it was in such a game as quake2 , where i could use stairs and rampjumps to gain a better position for pew pewing the enemy , this element is better in doom4 then quakelive actually and i like it. I were jumping everywhere in doom4 mp and makeing the others confused as they were trying some cod tactics of moving slowly on the floor or something.. :P

But, the mp map now is very cramped and alot of things to jump onto, on/off etc , this is what makes the faster feeling. If you had a map like q3dm6 which is big an open, it would feel alooot slower .

I hope they have listened to the community and made the overall movement speed faster , but this is abit tricky, because fight speed is just fine, its the a-b moving around map thats slow. To increase this, one would have to add more bunnyhoping or sliding or wall sliding or something something.

Some overpowered 1 hit kill weapons in there now tho, but this beeing an alpha we will see how the balance will turn out.

I will buy this game , because shit mp/sp or not , it will give enough entertainment for me to suuport id, atleast once more. Even tho how annoyed i am at this console game ... :P
