I'm looking for a propa hosting company for large scale websites. I've been using OVH for the last 5 years but I've just realized their customer support department is completely useless.
Just out of curiosity, what kind of issues did you have with OVH? I got a couple of servers there and never had any problems other than a 1H downtime once due to a hardware failure.
So I didn't have issues at all and was perfectly happy with OVH until I switched hosting plan on one of my sites. The site instantly started having periods of downtime with no apparent reason... fair enough, something didn't go well with the hosting switch, just needs ironing out... right?
Well after sending polite requests for them to please look into this which went completely unanswered for 2 weeks (not even acknowledgement that they were looking into it), and after calling them directly and speaking to someone that sounded like he genuinely couldn't give a shit, the next day I get reply in broken english telling me "no worries were found on the server" closing out my ticket, while even OVH's own stat reports showed glaringly obvious downtime periods since the hosting change.
I then sent them a full page essay in which I had already done all of the necessary investigation, just in case they really are as lazy/clueless/retarded as I suspect, and that was 1 week ago, and once again there is absolutely no answer.
This has been going on for a month now, with downtime getting worse with each day, and my only reply so far "no worries on the server". I'm about to call them for the second and last time before I tell them to go fuck themselves and move all my shit elsewhere.
I perfectly understand issues can and do happen, but I'm looking for a company with a reliable customer support department that I can trust when they do happen.

When I had that downtime thing, they immediately detected and solved the issue. I guess that using their VPS monitoring worked for me... I didn't even had to write to them; they sent me an alert when the problem started and about an hour later it was fixed.
I know other people that have VPS's at OVH and none of them ever had any problems communicating with them like you did. All those that ever had to open a ticket on their tracker had their issues fixed within a reasonable time period. Still, it's good to know they don't always respond as fast as they should.
I do miss SliceHost's IRC support, though... That was the best hosting support I ever had.
So I called them a second time, turns out the department you can reach by telephone has no direct access or input on the "incident" tickets which customers may open, which are outsourced to some 3rd world country and handled through machine translation. That explains "no worries on the server" lol. Also, still no response or solution.
I guess I would consider changing to another provider too... Thing is, would it be any better? I've heard so many horror stories like yours related to basically all "decent" providers that it seems there are basically no alternatives left.
If you do find an alternative and switch, let us know what provider you chose and how it turns out. :)
https://www.pixelinternet.co.uk/ are the best in the uk, they have some hardcore php setup, so your best off getting a cheap package to fix your code and make sure functions exist before being called in a script or you have a blank page
The lack of response if anything goes wrong with 1 and 1 are just as bad, don't even attempt to host emails through them as well, more of a headache than anything else you'll ever go through as well.
What is large scale websites? Are you looking for shared hosting or renting VPS/dedicated server? I could recommend you hosting with great customer support (I work there).
non managed servers allow you to do what you want to them and install all of your own software etc etc
managed servers, the hosting company manage your servers and software
and not all allow remote database or connection`s or remote domain includes which is more todo with managed servers, because you can do what you like with non managed
if you want a big site you want non managed, so you can have remote datebases and includes to span out CPU and page load times, if you do that, you want a good company so you can have a few servers in the same place with 1ms ping
