Probably the hottest news in the IT industry at the moment is Virtual Reality (VR) related. Basically, every IT news portal is being swarmed with articles about VR development hardware and software wise. One might find themselves caught off guard when it comes to the new technology and with so much information being released, you might as well feel overwhelmed by it. That is the reason for the creation of this article. To get yourself acquainted with the new 'hot stuff', giving you an overview as to why VR is so popular right now.

Check out StarVR, 210fov with tobii eyescanner to enable foveted(spelling?) rendering. If they manage that the specs to run the games will be much better even though they have sick resolution.

certainly. also Microsoft's HoloLens looks amazing! I mostly focused on 4 most popular and most gaming related VR's. Also would like to see Apple get into it, since they have those awesome Retina hi-def displays.

AppleVR only 10000$, in store now. The problem with apple and VR is that their hardware can't run games even if the OS allowed for it.

Obviously lots of us are interested in getting this new tech, but it is not the right time as there is no certainty of which of the models will be the standard. In a couple of months the $600 Oculus could be a paperweight compatible with mere demos, while HTC's/Valve's gets the new full game releases, or viceversa.

Personally though I'm jumping shipping as soon as the reviews come in, and if I made the wrong choice then resell the product for profit in this thirld world country.

HTC Vive seems to be the most interesting one right now because of how well it does positional tracking, but it's also the most expensive one.
Check out how cool Tilt Brush is at 22:35, with that kind of precision the possibilities are huge:

Tried rev2 non consumer oculus and hated the checkerboard effect, plus the blur at the edges if you track with your eyes. Do not want.

Tried the DK2 and TBH it sucked balls.

I have higher hopes on HTC/Valve. But then again, at first what attracts me is the game lists and I have no idea if it will have any racing games or anything else as impressive.

if you have oculus and using the full USB 3.0 so you can have 4k uncompressed images on screen, maybe +7 channel surround sound, and still have some of the 10gbs spare

change anything todo with space and the gradient of stars always look pure shit, and that would piss you off seeing duff gradient up real close

I second the skepticism. Thom Holwerda had summarized it quite nicely here on OSNews:

�I just don't see the appeal in strapping an ugly hardware monstrosity on your head to play a few video games or watch some movies. There are several weird disconnects; you can look around � but not in 360 degrees, because the cables make that impossible. You can move your head to look � but you need buttons to walk. It feels more like a glorified display setup than VR, really.

On top of that, while I love to dive into a carefully crafted game or movie world mentally, I wouldn't want to do so physically.�
