For non-russians, russians are often seen as "too full of themselves" or even "arrogant", but the sad fact is also that especially in QL, they don't really need (or DEPEND on) us non-russians (or non-russian speaking people). A cup like this is easily misinterpreted as "non russian ql-community, go fuck yourselves", since the rest of the world has settled on an international language so all people will be able to have equal fun.

If they'd just called the cup "Russian only noob duel cup #2", cool - and fair.

I can't help but compare this noob duel cup to the DNF noob duel cup hosted a few weeks ago. It was a huge success, and I think all of us participating would do it again. Even after the cup has ended many of us still hang out in their discord channel. So through successful community events, they've managed to build just that - a small ql duel noob community, where we have a lot of fun hanging out, and using each other to improve.

However this "Quake Live Duel !elo 1700 Cup#2" cup just seems somewhat inhospitable to non-russian players. I'd very much like to participate in a noob duel cup today, but not when you have to translate the site to even register and most likely will not understand a word in the stream commentary and twitch chat, which I think is a part of being a participant while waiting between games. Also watching VODs afterwards to try an learn from your mistakes, taking in some advice from the commentators is kinda pointless.

Fair enough if russians want to host russian only cups - heck we do it in Denmark as well a few times a year, but if this russian-only targeting is not intended, it fails bigtime to appeal to a broader non-russian segment of players.

I'm not any part of "pro" Quake scene, but had always been under impression that Russian players have a lot of respect towards American, European (esp. Scandinavian ;-), and other guys, both old- and new-school. I'm pretty sure organizers did not mean to act arrogant or inhospitable.

The reason why English version of their site is quite subpar is probably just an insufficient language proficiency (bear in mind that while Europe is more or less integrated and stirred, with many people being fluent in 4-6 tongues, 80% of Russians had never been abroad and thus never had chance to develop those rudimentary foreign language knowledge they might still remember from school). That makes a bad excuse, but a plausible explanation.
