Steam players being generous again. Third of the gamers thinking positively about a BethesDoom skinned Call of Halo is mind boggling at the very least.
Steam forums are usually as retarded and just as toxic as youtube comments. So I'm kind of surprised it doesn't have a higher percentage of positive reviews.
They play all them games, that's why they are able to distinguish between a gem and a turd. Whilst all of that, they wait for a true good arena shooter to show up.
It's hard to prophesize from this being a beta.
The finished product might be better than this, also remember that open betas are usually used to adjust the product to the demands of players. As long as the devs use fan feedback we should be good to go.
Also do any of you take into account that many of such reviews come from kids who haven't played the game or played for 10 minutes, didnt like it so panned the product? It's a vogue of sorts for spoiled brats to write "Reviews" of something they don't comprehend just so they can vent their toxic attitude.
Anyway. This is beta. We'll see if the Doom walks the walk, but onlya fter it goes gold.
With less than one month left for the full release it's obvious id software never meant to take feedback from this 'beta'. That's not enough time to make and test a single change. In actuality this 'beta' is a sneak peak to gauge interest, which is a very common practice in the industry.
The full release multiplayer gameplay will essentially be the same. At best some optimization could be done.
I don't share your criicism about the reviews because the way we and everyone else have to give them feedback for future games (Quake 5) is to submit our sincere opinion on Steam, whether for the 'beta' or for the full release.
If people are heavily disliking the free to play multiplayer sneak peak then the company should revamp the multiplayer in their next games. People disliking it is not the fault of some people playing the game for mere 10 minutes, but fault of the game being fun for mere 10 minutes.
If they really wanna do a multiplayer Quake, they better start the beta the day they start developing that shit, or else they really don't want a multiplayer Quake. Frankly I don't know if I want another Quake after all this turd games they're bringing out of id software lately.
That being said, as far as I know the multiplayer of Doom was outsourced to the developer who did Halo & CoD multiplayer that's why it is like it is, but I believe in-house development would have produced the same shitty results in the end - gotta get them trend moolah.
Im surprised at the negativity on steam, usually its the home of the plebs that actually enjoy shitty games.
Theres still a small hope there is a mutator/mod for the pros, ditching loadouts and enabling weapon spawns all over the map. Also faster movement after someone noticed there are strafejumping and rampjumping commands in the config. A small chance, that might become a bigger chance after the huge amount of negative feedback so far.
dont get your hopes up. Its a game that will sell great on consoles and have a life span of 1 year tops. Then they might release a 50 euro dlc that took 3 days to make. After that they are probably gonna move on to making new quake and when they destroy that franchise they will finally retire all IP bought with id
Unfortunately I think youre right. This kinda goes for everything in life. If a product gets made too well then there is no need to replace it, that hurts sales, better make things worse instead :|
At least it gets a garbage score on steam from the users, but the reviewers will most likely give it a 9/10 all around.
If new UT succeeds then maybe, just maybe they make a quake sequel thats true to its legacy and is not some consolized bullshit. I wish someone else bought id
id software without John Carmack (also known as J.C. himself, the messiah of video games) is not id software anymore.
Best games id software ever made are doom 1, quake 1 and quake III arena, the rest is pretty much fail attemps. All these games were made with J.C..
Doom 3 was a decent single player game, well, let's say it was good but not as perfect as doom 1, quake 1 and quake 3.
Rage was a test, and even tho the game was good, it wasn't really a success, sadly.
The new DOOM is made for consoles and is mainly about $$$$$$$$$$$. From what i've seen in the multiple gameplay videos, it looks slow, consolish, and more casual-friendly than any other id games so far. Not saying it's bad, cause I actually prefer it over overwatch, mainly because of the weapons and the quake-ish feeling, and doom is also one of my all time favorite in-game character :).
And it has a LightningGun :D.
That said I seriously hope DOOM will not fail and will sell well and have great success amongst the 'casual' gamers, and that with snapmap etc the community will improve it on PC.
From what I've seen, the game looks OK really, but... it's not even 80% quake, which is not a surprise at all.
TBH they should have just made a pure doom 1 remake, with same walking speed, same pace, huge maps and levels, lots and lots of monsters/daemons, but we are in 2016 and the industry has changed, now it's all about $$$$$$$$$$, so they have to satisfy the console and casual players. I'm probably a bit naive but I think that doom 1 with 2016 graphics could still do that role with matchmaking etc. Doom 1 can be appealing to all audience, as long as you don't play against much better opponents all the time and that there are tutorials and different difficulty levels for the single player, for all kind of players.
That said i hope that DOOM won't fail, cause if it does, it will be hard for id software to recover, and i don't want this company to die because they made already the best arena-fps ever, doom and quake, so they don't deserver to die just because of that :), and also maybe if there is Quake 5 planned (i keep dreaming)
yeah you're right about the sprites, but look at quake 1, there's still a lot of enemies and at that time it was one of the best looking game ever
i don't think it's impossible to do it with the new DOOM, sure it would need a more powerful computer to run it smoothly but tbh like FlashSoul said, i wouldn't mind worse looking enemies either if there can be more of them without needing a NASA computer :p
id Software with John Carmack is not id software anymore. it's a different industry, with a completely different, evolved, for better or worse, market, standards, practices, abilities, opportunities, audience, etc, etc.
If you grew up riding horses and loving it, you can move to a city or not, but when the roads are built up around you, and you complain about stables not being what they used to be, it's kind of silly.
The Quake FPS type of game is a niche that however still exists, just like horse races, and battle re-enactments, but it will be filled with less people, less money, and about zero genius people, who always stay at the forefront of whatever is going on. Because it's history.
I don't know about Mr. Thunderstruck, but I have a different issue with JC and also this game as well. He was (and perhaps still is) a very talented game engine programmer, then things went downhill. He locked us down to 60fps console level (idtech4), then he removed dynamic lighting and high quality textures (idtech5), then he went to work for facebook.
The whole id software attitude started to move away from being and wanting to be the alpha and became just one little among the many. And that did not happen because of the "industry, market, standards, practices, abilities, opportunities, audience, etc, etc.", it's happened because the plethora of bad choices and decisions and because not listening to the faithful and loving fans claiming that we are just some retarded toxic minority (and continuously ignoring that everything the majority of us said turned out to be true and also the opinion of the target audience afterwards)
As I said in some other thread before, the engine looks solid and feels really good, and the shit game can be fixed with mods and still has great potential. Hope dies last, and I too believe in fairytales, but expecting anything good from id, is way too much optimistic at this point imho.
He actually talked about those technical decisions because he was meeting specific project development goals. With popularity of consoles, they were no longer creating the gaming industry and video card industry like they did with doom and quake, they were fitting into the constraints of the video gaming expansion strategy, they weren't anywhere as big as Valve, or other FPS makers at that moment.
So he/they forced dumbed down console things on PC players while nobody else was doing such things, and you believe that was because of being small and because they were "fitting into" ?
Everybody was doing such things for years. Half-life was the first 'dumped' hit of a game, and Counter-strike beat out Quake3 in multiplayer because it dumped down FPS aspects and introduced 'fun' and accessible 'strategy'. These are not best, but most familiar examples.
If they put a sticker on a fucking empty cornflakes box that says Quake or Doom it's going to sell like hotcakes.
Frankly I don't even mind they made a mish-mash multiplayer with Doom, it's fucking Doom, everyone played SP at the time it was fresh, very little people played muliplayer so they can experiment for all I care.
But if they decide to make another multiplayer Quake, they better not fuck it up with all the Cod, Halo shit. Considering they have the tech infront of them already, making a decent arena shooter is not hard and they could do it with a fraction of what Doom cost them, so they better not be looking at console sales at that point, some fan service comes handy once in a while, just like Epic is doing with their UT license.
Right now everyone who was once in love with id software slowly but surely distances themselves away from it. Maybe they'll get a new public who knows, but it's never great to shit on your old fans, never.
Did people actually awaited decent multiplayer? Sure, it's Doom and all that legacy the name holds, but Carmack is long gone along with the innovation the previous titles are known for. The developers specifically stated that Doom 4 multiplayer wasn't made to be competitive, so the multiplayer aspect is secondary of quality. The outrage coming from the players... oh come on... have they, you been living under a rock or something?
The only hope is that they will provide the tools to shape the game through modding. Besides that, I am hoping that at least the single player isn't going to be a total failure.
3500 players is still more then doom would have if it was a competitive FPS
they are all lucky to even have 1000 players at the weekend, during the first few months of release
wannabe pro`s talk shit about every game, wannabe pro`s don`t play any of the competitive FPS games they bullshit into making competitive, and competitive play just bores everyone else
This type of answer is what I just dont get. Why would I want to see server lists of games that I cant join? I wanna be able to play everything there is to play without getting scammed, but thats seemingly not an option anymore these days. And people that give those answers wonder why the golden age of gaming was well over a decade ago...
just buy a seaon pass, 3 DLC`s won`t be released as soon as the game is released
with the season pass you atleast get 1 of the DLC`s for free, then any other DLC until your pass runs out which probably includes HD textures for 4k if resolution scaling is in the advanced options
the tv advert for the beta was way too sharp and was`nt just a bit of the trailer on youtube
