ofc you are, portegeuse is a variant on portegoose. This obviously referring to geese in La Porte, Texas (obviously dirty Canadian prob doesnt know where that is). We are discussing poultry here.
The latest news about an english dub is that Toonami has the rights in southeast asia and is aiming to release sometime ''mid 2016.''
But who those actors will be/how good they'll sound I don't know, Sean Schemmel (NA goku) has said he hasn't heard anything about a north american release but he's hoping it'll happen this year,
that's not actually worse, though. that's just you saying something insubstantial. it's also kind of ironic, considering your use of an anonymous internet pseudonym.
what's saddest, though, is that you do not even refute your weakness and openness to other people dating your women. you only try to paint somebody as worse than you so that you can feel relatively less awful.
that's a very powerful defense mechanism for somebody stupid and irresponsible enough to be susceptible to it.
I don't have any other account than this on esr.
Even on other sites I either use something with Weird in it (if weird is taken and I go for Weirdsel or Weirdsels or replace a letter with a digit) or in some cases my real name
the only one who wants anything from anyone in this conversation is you, who wants me to ask myself 'wtf do i want from weirdo?'
i have been accused of being too kind and too nice, and those accusations are probably correct, evidenced by the fact that i will answer you: i do not want anything from weird.
I would dislike it as well if I would be forced to spend free time on watching DB series....
DB is a lot like One Piece and Naruto... The first few episodes are nice and have a good story behind them... but then somewhere along the way, it's 99% fillers with hardly any progression. This lack of progression in DB is filled with "KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA <haha I can take it no problem> <end of episode 200>" "MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE <haha I can take it no problem> <end of episode 201>" "HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA .............."
And then at 227 the kamehameha fails like mad, and in 228 he levels up and restarts for the next season.
I have to agree here, alot of awesome good animes were ruined by fillers, Naruto for expl, i did watch the whole 1st season ( everything before shippuden that is ) and then fillers started and i had to switch to reading manga and i never got back to anime.
Reading manga is way more satisfying, I read the whole Naruto Shippuden and i was hyped at the end of every chapter ( Last chapters/arcs are super epic, ending is shit tho :/ ) and now am reading One Piece, did watch few episodes but couldnt handle how " childish " they made it looks like, now on Chapter 500 in One Piece and will continue reading.
Alot of animes were ruined by fillers, some were changed totally with the anime adaptation, like Samurai Deeper Kyo for expl or Shaman King, both mangas are great while the animes are pure horse shit :/
Even the "filler" is great (Gohan going to high school is a classic). There's a reason I marathon it. If you watch an entire saga in one sitting, it's paced really well. I like Dragonball BECAUSE of its progression. The stakes continued to get raised. The amount of danger I sense when Vegeta first showed up on Earth continues to be refreshed with every opponent that surfaces.
I'm not that much of a mecha fan either. That said I would still rate Neon Genesis Evangelion higher than the DB series.
Maybe Hunter X Hunter is closer to (the original) DB on more fronts... You could try that.
Point I want to make is that when you compare any anime to western cartoons than anime will all seem like it ownz. I too think that DBZ is much better than Dexter or Johnny Bravo etc. But then I watched Kenshin and I realized that DBZ was just really bad.
Afterwards I noticed there was a Kenshin OVA and realized that the series was also bad... And from there on you kinda lose sight of how insanely crap DBZ actually was and you completely cannot imagine ever again watching Dexter.
btw I believe that "Gohan goes to high school" actually was also in the manga.... At least for the largest part of it. So it kinda wasn't a filler, as the writer intended to get Videl and Gohan together...
The other episodes which followed were fillers. (Like Gohan's first date)
As much as I love Death Note it just cant be compared to DB.
DB is more action - comedy and DN is a dark, mindfucking thriller. Both are good and if you're going to criticize DB why not criticize DN aswell. The ending was way too abrupt and didn't make much sense at all considering all the care Raito had taken throughout the entire anime to get fucked by such a foolish "trust" mistake, against an "opponent" that was a lesser version of L nevertheless...
That beeing said, DN is definetly in my top favourites of all times up there with Berserk and Code Geass to name a few other brilliant animes.
I would've liked DN even more if it had just ended at the end of S1. S2 kinda felt added onto it to me. (although people can see why if they watch it, and even the 2nd season is of very high quality)
With DB however it feels like 75-90% either has no progression in it at all or no progression in the overall storyline.
Also the DB storyline itself is not very interesting. It doesn't really have many original twists. Basically Goku either befriends his adversaries in fights or he wins the fight, which is repeated a few times. That Freeza destroyed the home planet of Goku can also be seen as a small kind of twist but it's not really that large.
DN is the other maximum I guess... Where it's storyline is one of the most interesting ones I've encountered.
However also anime more similar to DB like NGE or HxH or FMA have a lot more story in them while having significantly less episodes.
(side note: FMA is a bit of a strange case, where the first series of the same manga differs a lot of the 2nd series... Which is a shame. I think both endings were somewhat dodgy and having first seen the 1st series kinda makes the 2nd series seem messed up... The start and middle of the 2 series is awesome though (very similar as well).)
I guess that if you want to compare DB to another similar series you'd have to go with HxH.
Hunter X Hunter is a good anime until it falls flat (imo). I think if you were to compare both you'd just have to say DB is better... When watching shotens like these you expect a few goosebumps but DB delivers better in that sense in both qualities and quantities. Then again you could say DB had 400 or so episodes when HxH had 50 or so but it still doesnt excuse the flat shit that was the ending of HxH imo.
I mean what beats goku going super sayian vs frieza and gohan going ssj2 vs cell in HxH ? You basically have Gon's insane powerup toward the end of HxH then that's it. I mean even the latest DBS episode with goku going kaioken gave me a better hardon than HxH's best moment (Gon rage/powerup).
It doesn't matter how Gon sizes up to Goku.... It matters how the progression of the characters go.
That Goku can crash through a planet and remain unharmed wouldn't matter to me. Just like Superman movies are boring as hell unless there's kryptonite in them to get him kill able.
It's about how they size up to their competitors and what they do to progress....
Dragon Ball is easily the best anime when it comes to that then tbh. Especially if you also consider young Goku.
The zenkai thing was a bit of a cheat to pull off (I mean vegeta ask Kuririn to wound him then gets healed and he's suddenly 3 times more powerful) but to be fair to Toriyama he didn't overuse that trick either.
Also I'm worried you misunderstood me. I don't try to make a cheap character comparison between different universes I'm talking about those moments in the animes when you feel the character has pushed himself to a new level to be able to defeat bigger threats.
Now maybe I'm beeing a nostalgic prick or it's just my younk kid's memories that make me think nothing in HxH ever beats Goku poweringup to SSJ vs Frieza or Gohan poweringup to SSJ2 vs Cell but those are only the best moments out of countless other ones in the saga. DBS just added another one of those epic moments mixed with nostalgia when SSB Goku went 10x Kaioken and started rekting Hit in the last episode.
Other random good moments I remember in DB: goku vs piccolo senior/junior, goku vs vegeta (both fights), vegeta's sacrifice vs majin buu, gohan rageraping frieza, vegito vs buu... God I'm starting to realize I might need to rewatch the original Dragon Ball series when Goku was a child, forgot so much.
The vegeta sen-kai seemed logical, but Goku's major zen-kai boost, going toe to toe with final form frieza, even only using 1% of his full power is ludicrous, but then again plot reasons.
Also you forgot when Goku first turns super saiyan, I still get goosebumps or when future trunks comes and destroys upgraded final form frieza effortlessly along with his father King Cold.
As for Goku beeing able to keep up with Frieza (for some time) in his final form (he'd still have majorly lost was it not for SSJ) you could say Goku trained like MAD in the vessel all the way to Namek. When he fought Ginyu (or however you write that name) he was much much ahead of him aswell.
One could say this was his final zenkai, thus beeing a major boost ? :D
It was estimated that after Goku finished training on his way to Namek that he was a little bit stronger than Ginyu without kaioken which I think was around 90,000? With kaioken he went all the way up to 180,000 and keep in mind 1st form Frieza was 530,000 and 2nd form being 1 million.
That would mean his zen-kai boost would have to boost him so many times beyond his limits just to contend with 1% final form Frieza, just doesn't seem possible, but then again plot.
Also consider by Vegeta got multiple zen-kai boosts and actually was stronger than Goku before he became incapicitated by Ginyu. Then Vegeta also recieved another Zen-kai boost after being almost nearly killed by Krillin's beam through his chest then being revived by Dende. Technically Vegeta should have been stronger or at least bare minimum on par with Goku, but that obviously wasn't the case considering he got absolutely wrecked by final form frieza.
Well, Goku trained a ton unlike Vegeta after their first fight on Earth.
Also I see that Vegeta jumped from 30k to 250k after fighting Recoome. Which means Vegeta's zenkai almost 10xed his power level. If you consider that Goku was 100k when coming to Namek, receiving at 30x zenkai boost (3000k) isn't that much more than Vegeta's 10x. Also you could consider that the use of Kaioken helps the zenkai boost a little. A mere Kaioken X2 sees Goku go at 200k when you think about it.
I don't think it's that much of a stretch to see Goku reach 3 million units when you consider it under this angle. It's massive and arguably a little exaggerated but it's not unthinkable imo.
And that cheap zenkai trick from Vegeta can't have the same impact as one you receive after intensive training + fighting and almost dying like Goku's body did after beeing possessed by Ginyu.
And then again if you just kept using that trick it's not unconceivable to think that even if you gain a little more power level you don't exactly train your body to be able to either use that power or even for your body to be able to keep up with it. Ginyu got Goku's body but wasn't able to use it to its potential (prolly unrelated at all but it's a good hint to add to the debate)
It's still too much of a leap in power for my liking, it was just added for plot reasons and nothing more.
It's not unreasonable to believe that the more severe the injuries sustained would increase the zen-kai boost that more dramatically, but x30 is just unrealistic by even Dragonball standards.
Can't wait though to see how Vegeta will keep up with Goku now that he seems to have mastered kaioken in Super Saiyan Blue form which would make him temporarily stronger than Beerus and maybe even Whis.
Yeah but really can't it be realistic to say that one of the explanations that using kaioken (which drains your body like crazy) AND the intensive training Goku did before getting to Namek could help Goku powerup so much after a zenkai ? If Vegeta could get so much why couldnt Goku who arguably trained more, fought more, and got his body rekt more ?
It's debatable. Plot trick surely but you could work around that in my opinion. Who's to say Sayians don't have it all in them ? Vegeta never trained because he was overpowering his opponents all the time. Maybe it's just a sayian thing. :P
"It's about how they size up to their competitors and what they do to progress"
Just about every enemy they have to face is multiple times stronger than them, sometimes even thousands and thousands times stronger. Every enemy raises the bar for whats at stake drastically. About half-way through the entire series is when people were worried about the universe ending, and things kept going up from there. The characters have to work together and push beyond their limits, many times into death, in order to progress.
The scale of DB started off with a little kid and a bratty girl running around the desert. And now (from what I've heard about Super) we are in multiple universes with god-like beings.
How they size up = They don't, "Just about every enemy they have to face is multiple times stronger than them, sometimes even thousands and thousands times stronger."
What they do to progress = Die or almost die, "The characters have to work together and push beyond their limits, many times into death, in order to progress."
rofl strategy...... S -> SS -> SS2 .......... Hmm what else can we possibly fuck up -> let's allow them to merge (like wtf random bs) -> SS3 zzzzzzzzzz.
+ all those people returning from death for no reason at all...
Lemme ask you, how often did someone irl go into a fight get his ass kicked to near death or even death while not dealing much damage to his opponent.... stood back up and then still beat the opponent?
Let's rebuild Freeza after his loss on Namek.... With the only purpose that not just him but also his father are destroyed?? Dunno what that was about.
Let's get Kuririn back all the time so he can die again and again to be revived next time.
Everything you just mentioned makes perfect sense within the narrative of the series. No reason at all? I think you've either never watched the series, forgotten it all, or never had any understanding of the characters and story, which given that this is a program aimed at children is somewhat strange, the story is not in the least bit cryptic.
ye, because the narrative is boring and repetitive. So you'd need a useless character to die over and over again to maintain the constant hum of mediocrity.
I've watched most of it and I remember by far most of what I've watched... But as with regards to DBZ I had just hoped that someone would've introduced me to good anime earlier so that I wouldn't have watched it... I would've dropped DBZ like a rock if I knew (and had access to) good anime.
(Back when DBZ aired here, my internet was not too great so getting other anime was quite difficult from time to time ;) )
I dropped it after the Cell saga. I did, already, watch most movies as well... The tree of life and the one with Brolly are ok. Rest meh....
Basically DBZ seasons are 60% charging up / yelling kamehameha, 25% about the lives/relationships and 15% about story progression.
so why exactly does he die in all arcs except for the cell saga?
What's the use...
Anyways... I guess you have horrible taste or don't know what good anime is like. Can't really see any other reason as to why you would think that extending the yelling of kamehameha is a tactic to buy time... I mean most episodes are just that.
I already told you I don't like anime. However, I do enjoy quite a few anime feature films.
Again, you display your ignorance of Dragonball. Krillin died once in all of Dragonball during the Tien saga.
Then he is killed by Frieza, basically half of the entire Dragonball series later. Then later he is turned into chocolate, with everyone else, so it's not special. Then once in the Super 17 saga in DBGT.
No, I was comparing Dragonball to actual anime.
A lot of anime have story lines which are much much more believable and interesting.
(Not necessarily because they are possible in real life, but they have a better story line... DB in a way relates too much to Superman (gets send here from another planet lived remotely for quite a while in early childhood, is much stronger than the rest, then gets challenged by another one from his planet etc.) except Superman has a villain that has to go through trouble to obtain what he wants... Which makes Superman even more interesting than DB imho and Superman is by far the least interesting superhero there is.)
There are few good battle where the weaker fighter pullout a good fight... like majin Vegeta vs fat buu... joy to watch. Otherwise I got your point, but I still like dbz... grow up kinda with it. Good times. :)
P.S. Also Goku really is so good and pure-hearted while so powerful. Joy to watch him. :)
I'm going to have to go with the original Goku vs Vegeta fight. I remember hearing rumors as a kid that the action was so intense that kids in Japan were suffering seizures, and then all of the action had to be toned down. Which is somewhat plausible considering how straining it is on the eyes.
cell saga in db kai is excellent, also. the first tournament in db is great, too.
goku failing is both unexpected, but also excusable. it was a very original and still clever way to humbly display the balance between talent and development.
I actually like all the fight... the whole series and even the filler parts. Can't really think of a favorite right now, but one thing that stands in my head is Vegeta's overcharged final flash on perfect cell. That was intense.
Edit: also db was a good series also + I really liked the world marchial arts tournaments.
the show continues where the 2nd movie ends too. yea they reiterate all the stuff from the movies too, but it slightly differes. the key plots however are the same
fuck this dragonball superbullshit the fucked my character from strongest non fused badass mother fucker to fucking skinny ass motherfucker im boycotting this shit till gohan is back where the fuck he belongs on top
Well he didn't train seriously since the Cell Games and he slacked off for seven years straight, only for Elder Kai was he able to be so powerful and even then he never trained to even maintain his strength.
doenst matter guys, gohan will be on top again he promised to train and i know something will happen that he will explode and go over the ssj blue form, if not akira need to dodge my railgun
