Can't tell, I have a Logitech G440 pad laying around and nothing ever got stuck to it.. when I cleaned it it took me like 5 minutes overall and it was usable again.

It means that you've got a lot of dust in your house or in the room you play.
Or you eat or do manual work near the pad and particles accumulate on your desk and by extension - on the pad itself.
It must also be a very dirty/dusty environment if the dust speckles cause the mouse pads to grind.
Fix the dust problem so you won't have to clean the mat every 10 minutes.

I've thought about this as well and I've cleaned my whole room of dust before, but it didn't make any noticeable difference - dust still collects pretty quickly on it. I do live basically in a desert so maybe it's especially bad here.

I have the same problem but on a cloth mousepad. I don't think it can really be avoided unless your clean the room very often and not just with the vacuum, but with the whole water thing. Maybe a humidifier could work?

I have a custom made 50x40[cm^2] glass mousepad and the glide is indeed very sensitive to any kind of particles like dust, weed and sand. I just clean it before playing with a spraybottle of windowcleaner and a piece of cloth.

Cloth pads don't wear out that quickly to be fair, they just accumulate dirt quicker that changes the glide properties, but when you clean them every couple of months they keep a pretty consistent glide for years. My QCK heavy I cleaned with a sponge and dishwasher, before holding it under flowing clear water, repeat it until the washed off water remains clear and the mousepad will be like new.

That's what I thought as well, but I've been cleaning both my QcK and Goliathus and Allsop Raindrop every 2-3 weeks, and all of them had considerably different glide in the middle after about a month. QCK actually might have lasted about 2 months, but it had the worst glide to begin with.

I didn't use a sponge though, just used my hand and dish soap. Maybe I didn't wash out all the sweat. I'm gonna try washing my Allsop again with a sponge, see if it helps.. pretty sure it's just the cloth wearing out, though, not grime. I have a low sensitivity and move my hand around a lot, so it probably wears out quicker than most.

Also humidifier idea is decent but I'm not gonna spend that much money on something that might or might not work. Probably should just deal with it and move on TBH, but I thought maybe you guys had some magic solution to this :D

I scrub the shit out of my QCK+ with a regular scrubbing brush and it hasnt scratched or affected the pad at all. After a couple of washes though i feel like instead of lasting a couple months between cleans you need to clean it monthly so i can see why you do it every 2-3 weeks.

That surprises me:
I play with medium sensitivity out of the wrist at mostly the same location of the mousepad, but still I clean the QCK only every 3...4 months and it lasts about 2+ years.
Maybe you play much more, got a more sweaty hand/dusty environment/scratched mousefeet, apply aggressive mousing or cut pizza on the mousepad?

Or maybe you don't clean the pad well.
A sponge works well for cloth pads:
1) Use the soft side of the sponge to cover the whole pad with water and dishwasher that is able to crack greasy molecules.
2) Let it soak in for 1 minute.
3) Polish the whole pad with the rough side of the sponge while applying force, high enough to clean out the holes inbetween the fibres, but low enough to not damage the fibres.
(A brush like suggested by Stillblaze should work even better for this step.)
4) Let it soak in for 1 minute.
5) Wash out the pad under clean flowing water.
Repeat steps 1...5 until the water that comes from the pad at step 5 is clean.
The fibres of the cloth top and the pores of the foam bottom hold liquid for pretty long, so you will have to wait about 24h hours until the pad is dry or put it on a heater overnight, but the pad will be like new with consistent glide all over the place. At about 2+ years the fibres start to wear out, due to taking damage from gaming and cleaning friction.
But for me the main reason to replace a cloth pad after that time period, is the delamination of cloth top and foam bottom at the borders.

Humidifier sounds like a terrible idea, because on warm summer days with rain, when you have a high humidity, mousepads feel like having increased static and dynamic friction.

Hmm, well I play with 42cm/360 and move my hand around a lot, and can play like 5 hours a day + 8 hours of other PC usage. I think sweat is my biggest problem though, I have to wipe off my mouse every day too because it gets a lot of that residue on it from sweating. Eww.

Sometimes when I'm playing my wrist sweats so much it makes the lower half of the mousepad wet and actually changes the glide temporarily. That's the other reason I moved away from cloth pads I guess.

Thanks for those washing instructions though. just washed my QcK as well using them (Washed the Allsop twice and it's still the same, so I think that one is hopeless). Will see if it's any better when it dries; I'll be surprised if scrubbing it with the rough side of the sponge didn't ruin the cloth.

QcK had terrible glide from the start though so I'm not gonna use it anyway - ordered the Zowie PTF-X as suggested by Eburbeck, should get here by Monday.

Ah I see, you use the pad much more than me, that is why you got such an excessive wastage.
I also don't sweat much, maybe a towel to dry hands inbetween matches could help.

Rough side of a sponge doesn't damage the fibres, when you don't apply massive force.
But without having tested it by myself, I assume that a brush like Stillblaze recommended should work much better.
Since you got a new pad anyway, you can now abuse your old QCK for strange experiments.
Regarding the high static friction of your new hard pad: silicone/teflon spray.

Interesting idea but how exactly would I earth it? Just glue a wire to the surface and lead it to some grounded object? Not sure if it's even conductive, it looks like it's coated in something and not just pure aluminum.

wear a tin-foil hat and you will complete the inductance circuit, then all the dust will stick to YOU.

You need to penetrate any coating, sratch a little hole at the side and stick a cable to it with the other end attached to earth (heater tubes for example; don't youse your outlets, could get dangerous if something is not done correct)

Get a zowie g-Tf speed and stop torturing yourself with that aluminum nonsense. That's what I did a while back and it was one of the best decisions I've made (with regard to QL)

Was considering this mousepad actually, but it's not available anymore it seems. There's this one called Zowie PTF-X, is that the same thing or similar?

Dunno though I'm guessing it will wear out quickly as fuck still, all cloth pads do.

my g-tf speed isn't wearing out quickly at all - seems to be a much more durable fiber that it's woven with, something similar in composition to nylon. and the ptf-x looks exactly the same as g-tf speed, just with a new name, so i'd say it's a good choice for you. looks like the gtf-x is just larger.

Interesting, if it has good glide and doesn't wear out too quickly it might just be worth it. I'll give cloth mousepads another chance, thanks for suggesting it!

Got the Zowie PTF-X today, and I don't want to judge it too quickly since it's still rolled up (currently under some books to flatten it) but the glide seems awful. It's kinda "sticky" and there is way too much static friction, if you stop your mouse good luck getting it to move again.

The glide is basically the same as the QcK but more grainy, and it's not even close to the speed of hard pads. Feels more like a "control" type pad, though even my Goliathus Control has less static friction.

ROFL Artisan is even more overpriced. Anyway it's mostly flat now but the glide is still crap, and my sensitivity keeps changing depending on the way I hold the mouse due to this pad having terrible tracking performance. What a waste of money.

I've heard from multiple people that they wear out quickly though, and the Hayate is apparently a dust magnet. Shipping or not it doesn't matter, I'm not spending that much on a piece of cloth that will be my new bathroom rug in 3 months.

And I'm not sure, I might still keep it. Maybe if I force myself to use it for a few days I'll get used to it.

my shidenkai is 4 years old!!! can't seem to flatten it, the edges are a little bent upwards, other than that it works fine, can't see a difference in glide. I'm supercasual but still able to hit well with it.

That's awesome to hear, was considering buying another Artisan pad to test and wasn't sure what was best. I've heard the strawberry edition is better than the orange edition in terms of tracking quality though, do you know if that's true or just a rumour? :)

I have no idea about that sorry, but I don't see how it would make a difference.
I have the strawberry shiden kai. It's glass-coated, but basically feels same as a plastic pad, except doesn't wear out in a few months.
actually I also own a Hayate, but I'm not using it. it's pretty good, but I can't get into cloth pads even the supposed 'fast' ones. it helps stabilize aim but also frustrate you at the same time. I defo prefer moving more freely on a hard pad, but that's just me.

Yeah that's totally understandable. I've never tried that many hard pads, all I know is that after 2-3 years of using various QcKs and a goliathus, the Hien showed me how comparately awful most cloth pads are (the blue zowie g-sr was alright, but the new black one feels as bad as the qck imo).

Since I like the faster glide so much I'll definitely look into a shidenkai. Thanks a lot for your advice!

Would this really do anything? Even if the glide is better, dust will still collect on it quickly and ruin my life.

I assume your aluminum pad is smooth, that might be the main issue.

The icemat is known for this issue as well, the texture is simply too fine.

Most hard plastic pads have a rougher texture which can take in some dust and still not scratch.


As suggested either stick cloth to your mouse gliders, or as last resort replace the aluminum pad...
