So i've been having this fps drops/choppy gameplay problem for a long time..i've searched endlessly on it online and found similar threads about the same problem but i still haven't found a solution..it still puzzles me that i can never get this game to run properly all the time..lol
Ok so let me explain the problem in more detail..basically it feels like fps drops even though i can have 125 fps stable...or 250 stable (though it drops more often specially on certain maps it can drop a lot)..but even when it's stable it still feels like fps drops..it feels choppy/jittery and slightly delayed and this of course becomes much more noticeable online specially with many people in the server to the point of being unplayable sometimes
I have a crt but i use a 144hz lcd monitor now that i can OC to higher refresh rates..and i notice the problem on both monitors..so i'm not sure if it's a monitor issue..probably not..but here's what i noticed..
if i'm using 120hz and 125 fps i can notice the choppy feeling on both monitors...with 120hz and 250 fps it's also noticeable..same with 144hz and 250fps..also noticeable and not smooth enough..only when i was able to OC the monitor to higher refresh rates like 190hz and cap the the fps at 180 (with rive tuner) the game started to feel less choppy but it's still somewhat there..basically there seems to be certain combinations of refresh rate and fps that make the game feel smoother than other combinations..usually when i have the refresh rate slightly higher than the fps (like 130 hz and 125 fps) but not always..and so far i still can't find the right combination that would make the game run perfectly smooth..it always feel slightly choppy/delayed
My pc is an asus p8z77-v pro MB, i5 3570k with 8gb of ram, windows 7 64 bit and gtx 750ti card (had same problem with my older gtx 650)..i've built it few years ago hoping to fix the problem because the problem was much worse on my older pc..it has certainly helped but hasn't completely got rid of the problem
I also tried another old dell pc with a core duo/same card and the fps drops were more noticeable
I've upgraded the psu to make sure the card is getting enough power and i've tried all kinds of different configs, commands, com_idlesleep 0, r_primitives 2, HPET on/off, etc..nothing helps
I've found that some people using older cards (like 9800 gtx) and systems didn't seem to have that problem..could it be that newer nvidia drivers are the issue here? maybe ql just runs "right" with older cards and drivers? or maybe the card is downclocking during gameplay and that is causing the fps drops/ choppy feeling?
I've checked with gpu-z and it says GPU clock is 540 MHZ and default is 17464 mhz but with nvidia inspector it says the gpu clock and current clock are both at 1176 mhz..which one is right? and what's going on?
I would like to hear your opinion and if anyone has found a solution to this very annoying and what seems to be a somewhat common problem..thanks
