Quite a few of the real top have salaries like regular people + expenses paid like regular people who have to travel for their job.

talking about FPS , csgo have atleast 20+ teams, who got salary and free trips.. 1.6 never was close to these numbers..
OW is new, but if it get's realy popular, I expect same, top15 teams will have "good life".

I think a lot of tournaments cover the expenses for invited / qualified teams.

IMO the biggest problem is that OW is nothing whole, i would describe it rather as a "first person something" or "MOBA with FPS elements" than a "real FPS".

Solo play doesnt work at all so quite a few people might just simply drop it for that reason. Some Heroes are a necessity on certain stages and counter picks are insanely important, if nobody wants to swap, sometimes its just simply better to leave.

And then there is the balancing which works in theory, but not in practice, not to mention that instead of making one big change they just nerfed two chars in ways that arent making too much sense, apparently they want to make sure that no char is used twice in comp play, however nerfing mccree´s right click was an indirect buff to Winston and reaper, which are starting to appear more and more in pairs, especially when there is a cp to capture. That also means that the only character that requires some kind of aim is often just Pharah, and incidentally Pharah duels were the most fun i had in this game but they rarely happen without any influence.

I suggested on qlive forums back in 2008 a gamemode for qlive with many mechanic aspects similar to Overwatch, but I had this idea since doom3 was announced in 2002 or 2003 when I saw the potential of the game in the leaked version of doom3. I opened a thread on doom3 forums in doom3 out of despair when I realized how the id guys would waste the potential of the game and to redefine the 3d genre. No one listen at the time and now Blizzard -inspired by moba games, not by me of course -is milking the money. It could have been id Software instead. Overwatch is still beatable by a doom3/doom4 mode similar to moba genre thanks to superior design -plus if they would conceive matches CS style,with no respawn until the end of the round to make the choices have even deeper impact.
I also predict Blizzard to dumb the game down with every passing patch, for the sake of liberal equality ermmm... I mean balance.

Some people probably like american football but I sure dont. Its alright for some casual play but it never produces the same primal sense of accomplishment even like when you are doing well vs a sick combokill in quake.

Actually CS gets plenty, there are no other currently relevant FPS games that can feel aggrieved by this. Overwatch has an extremely active competitive scene right now, couple this with a huge player base and it is clearly deserving of some good prize pools.

You can talk about "skill" all you want but the only thing that matters for determining level of competition is numbers, numbers of people who want to push for the top. So many different games are deemed "most skilled" by their rabid fanboys, who are usually awful at said games themselves, but if you've got no competitive scene to back it up and push the level higher and higher it counts for absolutely nothing.

OW would count for absolutely nothing if it weren't for Blizzard's prestige and the GREAT amount of money invested into marketing and tournaments.

If there wasn't a huge name, hype and the collateral financial background behind it, the playerbase would be a fraction of what it is now.

The actual reality is that the game is huge, with a large competitive player base that is going to be competing for a lot of money and drive a high level of competition. I sure hope id won't go OW-route by making a mediocre shooter with a multi-million dollar marketing campaign that costs more than the development of the game itself. The new DOOM's single player campaign restored just a tiny bit faith in them.

Blizzard, while thrives in financial success, makes much lower quality games than before the departure of Blizzard North - they are just faint shadows of their former self. The situation is roughly the same with id as well. That's what happens when the biggest brainpans and artists leave your company for good.

What BOTH of them should learn is that not just the economic takings matters and during the development phase, they have to return to applying the exact traits what made their earlier games notions across the globe. Not just doing roflhype $$$ marketing behind their newest whatever product.
