Its so funny for me how they word that. "allowing you to fight the way you want" they must know quake veterans don't want to fight in this way with silly "abilities". :D
Access to all the abilities is the only way to '"fight the way you want" rather than restricted by the subset of things in the game for the whole map, or whole lifetime, by your class (cough, loadout) choice.
I can only hope this only goes for some modes in the game. Ditching 4 generations of much loved game mechanics is not going to go down well with fans.
Quake isn't TF2, Halo, Overwatch etc. No classes in the base game types (FFA/Duel/CA), no alt-fire over flooding of weaponry is what really set it apart, aside from the best in game movement ever.
By "abilities" I meant any movement level, weapon, anything a character can do/use.
I'm not going to complain about having whatever they're calling abilities full stop as they may have wrapped up strafe running as one ability, rocket jumping as another, could be anything really, I'm sure we'll want at least some of them.
Some Gears of war reject model has a Reinhardt shoulder charge.
There is a female character with a blink ability just like Tracer.
I didn't really see a character drop a weapon in the trailer and have it picked up, but I'll take your word for it. Obviously that would throw off the balance alot, if this were the case. Might have just been for cinematic and story telling purposes to make the action flow in the trailer.
It's absolutely a blatant Overwatch cash-in. All the abilities shown are straight from Overwatch.
I'm not even sure what a Quake Champions map would look like as I would imagine there wouldn't be physics movement. How would that even work on consoles? You think Bethesda is going to release a game with mechanics that can't really be executed with a controller, thus shutting out the console market?
It's Overwatch with a Quake skin. It will not have physics based movement. Let that sink in. How is this going to play? What are the maps even going to be like if there is no SJ'ing? How is this even going to 'feel' like Quake? It's bad.
Its PC exclusive, said so on bethesda stream. It has strafejumping, rampjumps, rockejumping. It has weapon pickups as seen in the trailer where ranger picks up lg
Um, yeah, the character is also called Widowmaker. What is your point? Short-hand is a knock? I can see where the rest of this is going already.
2.) Quake has always had female characters
Wow, going to go there. I pointed out simply that there was a specific female character in the video with a blink ability that they wanted to showcase. What existing 'champion' is she again from the pantheon of Quake avatars?
3.) They haven't showed how it really works (the Reinhardt charge in video)
Um, they haven't showed how anything works. It's a concept video. It's clearly a 'charge' and he drops his weps (cooldown?) and charges in a straight line and pins other player. It's pretty clear the message being conveyed in the context of the other 'abilities' already demonstrated in the trailer.
4.) Throw off balance?
Because this isn't Quake, it's Overwatch. You can't have characters with particular abilities/speed/health without forcing a play style upon them. Everyone would just go lg/rg/or rail with 2 or 3 of the characters and it would be super unbalanced. Blink would be op, so obviously the blink character would be restricted to their LOADOUT which is particular to the character.
5.) Designed specifically for PC
Developers say this all the time. You really believe this game is not being developed jointly for consoles? Explain to me how a game that is going to exist on consoles will have physics based movement?
6.) They've said it feels like Quake.
Sold...that's some freakin' evidence when the developer has to tell you the game they are pitching actually does 'feel' like the franchise, without any further explanation or evidence.
