Its so funny for me how they word that. "allowing you to fight the way you want" they must know quake veterans don't want to fight in this way with silly "abilities". :D
Access to all the abilities is the only way to '"fight the way you want" rather than restricted by the subset of things in the game for the whole map, or whole lifetime, by your class (cough, loadout) choice.
I can only hope this only goes for some modes in the game. Ditching 4 generations of much loved game mechanics is not going to go down well with fans.
Quake isn't TF2, Halo, Overwatch etc. No classes in the base game types (FFA/Duel/CA), no alt-fire over flooding of weaponry is what really set it apart, aside from the best in game movement ever.
By "abilities" I meant any movement level, weapon, anything a character can do/use.
I'm not going to complain about having whatever they're calling abilities full stop as they may have wrapped up strafe running as one ability, rocket jumping as another, could be anything really, I'm sure we'll want at least some of them.
Some Gears of war reject model has a Reinhardt shoulder charge.
There is a female character with a blink ability just like Tracer.
I didn't really see a character drop a weapon in the trailer and have it picked up, but I'll take your word for it. Obviously that would throw off the balance alot, if this were the case. Might have just been for cinematic and story telling purposes to make the action flow in the trailer.
It's absolutely a blatant Overwatch cash-in. All the abilities shown are straight from Overwatch.
I'm not even sure what a Quake Champions map would look like as I would imagine there wouldn't be physics movement. How would that even work on consoles? You think Bethesda is going to release a game with mechanics that can't really be executed with a controller, thus shutting out the console market?
It's Overwatch with a Quake skin. It will not have physics based movement. Let that sink in. How is this going to play? What are the maps even going to be like if there is no SJ'ing? How is this even going to 'feel' like Quake? It's bad.
Its PC exclusive, said so on bethesda stream. It has strafejumping, rampjumps, rockejumping. It has weapon pickups as seen in the trailer where ranger picks up lg
Um, yeah, the character is also called Widowmaker. What is your point? Short-hand is a knock? I can see where the rest of this is going already.
2.) Quake has always had female characters
Wow, going to go there. I pointed out simply that there was a specific female character in the video with a blink ability that they wanted to showcase. What existing 'champion' is she again from the pantheon of Quake avatars?
3.) They haven't showed how it really works (the Reinhardt charge in video)
Um, they haven't showed how anything works. It's a concept video. It's clearly a 'charge' and he drops his weps (cooldown?) and charges in a straight line and pins other player. It's pretty clear the message being conveyed in the context of the other 'abilities' already demonstrated in the trailer.
4.) Throw off balance?
Because this isn't Quake, it's Overwatch. You can't have characters with particular abilities/speed/health without forcing a play style upon them. Everyone would just go lg/rg/or rail with 2 or 3 of the characters and it would be super unbalanced. Blink would be op, so obviously the blink character would be restricted to their LOADOUT which is particular to the character.
5.) Designed specifically for PC
Developers say this all the time. You really believe this game is not being developed jointly for consoles? Explain to me how a game that is going to exist on consoles will have physics based movement?
6.) They've said it feels like Quake.
Sold...that's some freakin' evidence when the developer has to tell you the game they are pitching actually does 'feel' like the franchise, without any further explanation or evidence.
Initially my jaw dropped with excitement, then I heard about the abilities and was like WAAADAAAFAAARK, but...... having had some time to analyse the trailer I don't think there's anything to worry about! I actually think it might be good if it's the way I think it's going to be, which is basically quake as we know it but with each character having some special ability they can use for a short period before it recharges: like a speed boost, teleportation over a small distance etc.
Don't worry be happy :) Tim willits said they're aiming for this to be an e-sport with big tourneys and prize money, this tells me they're going to try and put in a lot of development to make it good. I personally think they did an amazing job with the new doom from what i've seen, so quake should be quake(mostly) as it looks like they're trying to stay fairly true to the original games people loved. Imagine if this shit reaches cs:go/ow levels.
What if the different characters also have different hitbox sizes / max HP / start with certain weapons / movement / <insert something else that could differ between them> ?
The Nyx model looks thinner than the Scalebearer at least, so different hitbox size?
Is Scalebearer a tank? -> more HP?
Visor has a railgun in hand at the start -> spawns with railgun ? (also has wallhack, so wallhack + rail kinda like widowmaker from overwatch)?
There are a lot of things you could take from the CGI trailer. Personally i hope none of them are true but realistically at least some probably will be.
Think you are right. It is more about them being afraid that they could be called out on repackaging failed titles without doing anything after so many years.
QL was just that, a repackaged vq3 optimized for web pluging yadayada.
Where is it now? Also how has it developed since the start.
Consider abilities as dooms hack modules for instace, i guess consider their latest MP they are gonna copy the mechanic. For casual players they were great, and people liked them, not all of them but WH ones I'm sure they did.
Casually played they are something people just used without thinking.
I'm more worried they put priority on game runnign fast and not the game being something that can be spectator/demo friendly like quakes used to be.
msg to my freind syncerror
get me ino the beta/alpha
give devs link of my ctf skills
they will be mesmerized by the sheer power of this and beauty of game play
#QUAKEPRIME
not for me at least, it actually feels more rewarding. Its not like someone in the air becomes superman or something so just wait for the perfect moment, its like on the ground really
Need to stress to dev's NOW, that it needs a proper dedicated server.exe that anybody can run server from any IP. The way QL is with servers now, not the way QL was with only ID servers.
Im saying this because both rage and doom have run by ID only servers rubbish, at release anyway afaik, and so did QL before they gave back control.
Also idk why you cant have strafe jump in a console game. Just use the paddle buttons with a tutorial. Hopefully pc exclusive anyway.
The tears of quake haters bashing Quake for "copying OW" when OW is just a giant copy of different games is so laughable. OW didnt invented shit dudes, get a grip.
Quake isnt dead and wont be for a long time, dont be salty!
