Ugh. It makes my crosshair really thin and the gap is tiny, and everything seems way harder to hit.
Other than that...hmmm...I changed it all back, but my monitor keeps powering off mid game. I get the noise to say that some hardware has been removed, then a black screen. I don't think it's the monitor, cus it works everywhere else. I hope it's not my PSU cus I just replaced it with a decent one and there is plenty of overhead.
And for some reason when I just played, it was 4:3 I'd reinstall my gfx card drivers, but the newer versions require a windows update which requires that my copy of windows be...you know...

You could try to delete (backup) your configs and try again. I mean you already should have done that.

Make sure you use vertexlight not lightmap and shadows, that helped me with my lowend hardware.

Like delete ALL of the .cfg files in that folder and only make a backup of my autoexec? My autoexec doesn't have the resolution and such in it. I'll try it. I only got this problem after making that change so maybe...though I played on 1920x1080 fine before, but I had no autoexec. Maybe there's a conflict somewhere?

crosshair is a lot customisable in CSGO, and with higher res you can see more details, easier to headshot.

Most likely your gfx driver is messed up. ;)

Hmmm..one of my hard drives has disappeared. Maybe that explains the sound. It has nothing on it to do with the game, though. In fact, no programs at all, but maybe it dropping out of the system is what caused the issue. I've had this problem before. SATA cables are so lame.

Nevermind. I fixed it...by pushing the plug all the way in. :) Then I finally get to play a game, and there are 5 cheats on the other team. Was just starting to think this isn't my day, when one of them got an overwatch ban right at the end. I guess that means that game is wiped from my history, but is it also wiped from the list of my recent matches where I can download them from?
Nevermind the resolution stuff. I guess I'll just have to spend a day or two at 1920x1080 and see how it feels

Depending on your setup, running a non-native resolution may introduce input lag.

Asus VG248QE, so 1920X1080 is native. I guess I'll just try it, and try to get my crosshair looking like it does on 720. I'm not hugely concerned about input lag. My GFX card gets frames in Morse code, then does a quick charcoal sketch and a bit of watercolour. Any lag coming from the monito is teeny tiny in comparison

you're well beyond the max of your screens refreshrate in both cases so it's obvious that you should set it to 1920x1080.

260fps is much more than enough even if you get a 144hz monitor (or a 160hz-200hz CRT)

actually 150fps is enough, because i was playing overwatch at 150fps and then cameback to quakelive where i play with 250fps, and tbh i hardly notice any differences in smoothness/responsiveness.

so yeah, just play at 1080p, especially if you get a large monitor, it's just amazing!

Right, well, I'll try it out for a day and see how I feel about it. But why does the crosshair change so drastically? I thought the crosshair was independent from the rest of the stuff onscreen but changing resolution changed the damn thing entirely. The thickness AND length of the hairs changed, and so did the size of the gap.


P.S. Is there any way to adjust the size of the horizontal hair indepentently of the vertical?

Hey, that is really fun and the settings can help to play the game in high resolution.

Settngs are very important. You can reduce use of resources and get better results.
