I see a few possible scenarios:

- He did indeed use some cheat, got VAC banned, and then panicked

- Somebody wanted to take a revenge on him, and did all these steps. It may sound weird, but it's not difficult to come up with such a plan, and all it required was one password.

- Somebody wanted to steal the account and use it to play online. I'm not sure how often this happens, but googling for 'steam account stolen' yields half a million entries on google.

A good question is, how long did it take for Base to get his account back, and when exactly these events occurred. If he was out of his account for a whole week, then deleting friends and renaming could have been done by the person who stole the account.

IF... its true Base is legit...
The only way he could have been vac banned if Base used a Public SMS text number for his Steam Password recovery. By using this public system, someone can easily use that same system and abuse it by linking the same numbers from a cheater account. That will vac ban all other legit accounts that used the public SMS text number.

from an objective pov:
everyone whos seen his "quake it has no age" vid could see the number of characters his pw consists of afaik so with the near infinite amount of retards on the internet its pretty much possible someone did hack his account just for the sake of it then deleted all friends etc.

on clearing friendlist and changing nicknames btw: thats pretty much the first thing to do after buying/taking over someone elses steam account and does not neccesarily have to be related to cheating.

Not true, I gave my steam account away to someone who cheated in CS and I got banned from it. Yet you won't find a single record of me in the online world playing, or actively involved in that community or game.
Its the opposite of what I like in a game, slow teamplay = blurgh.

Think about it, if you lend a video game to someone and they cheat in it, is it your fault?

How about a kitchen knife when they tell you its for chopping cucumber and then go on to kill someone. You get the blame with no chance of a trial or explanation. Sound good?

Its only because steam delivers the game in electronic form does something which for years was never a problem, become one.

Oh and valve have a strict FU policy policy on reversing that or even looking into it as a human being, but in all fairness they did give me a refund on Street Fighter 5 after I played it for 30 mins and decided it was shite and went back to super turbo on GGPO, once and for all.

But what you described isn't lending a video game, it's lending an account, which in turn has it's terms of use that need to be accepted by the person who registers it. I haven't actually read them but I'm pretty sure it's gonna say that the account owner is responsible for all actions on the account.

Credentials were just to play a game, think back to 2005 when steam wasn't that established. It wasn't really a big deal back then as it was a new model, obviously in the 10+ years since electronic registration has become much more realised.

Back then it didn't mean anything as I only had one game on it I never intended on playing again.

There's a difference between being an actual cheater if you have a VAC ban, and being naive. from a time when steam wasn't a fraction of the monster it is now.

But whatever.

I indeed heard it before. Guy got banned for having cheats installed, said he wasn't aware of it and never used them. Guy's explanation was that his 12-whatever year old cousin/brother must have downloaded them. That was Quake 3 or Live though iirc.

That doesn't mean he doesn't. In fact, being in his position, it's easier for him to cheat because no one suspects he would. Could be he uses them sparingly at critical moments or important games.

You don't think it's odd he wins almost every weekend? It's inevitable that he should have an off day ever so often. It's more suspicious that he wins every week and then always loses in season finals in some unusual way. He never appears himself in season finals.

If he doesn't cheat, it's hard to deny it all appears very fishy. Now given that Base was busted, a lot more questions can be raised.

I mean, either you've just started following the 125fps seasons, or you've forgotten, but Evil has been a dominant force in the finals for a while (he won seasons 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27, that's 5 in a row, and more before those).

Only in the last 3 seasons he's had some disappointments in the finals, and even then it's not like he completely underperformed. Aside from season 30, he topped his group both times in seasons 28 and 29, and once lost to Base who was on top form (and won only by a narrow margin, too, check maps 2 and 4, great match !), and the other time lost to Agent in the final match in map 7 of the best of 7. Agent won maps like Hektik and Silence, where sure Evil is no slouch either, but an upset can definitely happen more often in these in my opinion.

So what are you saying, that he just started cheating for the past 3 seasons and the cheating has made him unable to win like in the past ?

I don't even care about this conversation anymore to be honest, we each have our opinion, and I don't think we can convince ourselves to change it.

Didnt saw a base thread, so just repeat it here.

Fuck do i care if base cheated or not, sure i will live if somebody proves it solidly, but nobody did for the moment, because ppl gets banned and unbanned here and there.

It just seems very unlikely to me that he cheated, because he's lan-proven (he won number of games against evil and pavel on moscow lans), never shown anything suspicious online and at the end Sasha's just not that kind of guy, he is, like, really positive and easy-going dude who spent many time getting good at the old game that he loves and doing different fun stuff for the community, all these videos and stuff. He's very normal and healthy person, not some no-life maniac, why would he even seek an unfair advantage in the dead game where he's good enough already? It not like he suddenly started to win everything or boosted his results significantly, or, what, he cheats to get 4th place, not 5th? What's the profit?

I really don't care that much if base cheated or not, i'm not his buddy or a super-fan. What i care about is that ~~somebody's wrong in the internet~~ everybody's accusing him here without knowing any single fact for sure. We dont know if base cheated at all, specifically, we dont know if he ever cheated in quake. We only know that his acc was banned. This could be a bug, or he did has his acc stolen or he used some forbidden item in some stupid minecraft, whatever. That's not like sombra's screenshots with WH and enemy radar switched on.

In real life accusing somebody without any legal base to that would be a slander and will result with a consequences. Thats just the online disinhibition effect in a flesh.

What's more likely to happen:
A) That the VAC ban (industry standard) is deserved, or
B) That someone hacked base's account, that he hacked it to use cheats in a game with 500 players total and get base banned, changed his nickname a lot for some reason and that base happened to be on vacations or something so that he wasn't available for a whole week (base is one of the more active players).

We have seen this so many times in the past that the majority here don't believe the silly excuses. 1800 elo player starts competing, gets addicted to the game, can't beat the best despite playing every day for hours, then cheats out of frustration. Just another ZeroQL, sombra, serious, etc. In CS people even cheat on LAN for this reason.

Of course, since he plays in the Russian community he will still be allowed to participate.

From what I've seen from Base is that he has a very defensive style of playing. He does that rather succesfully and I guess we now know why he was able to pull that off in this day and age (it was easier to win in such a manner in times of OSP for example).

But maybe I am a bit biased here.. I've been playing a lot of CSGO lately and I absolutely hate the fact that I am playing against a (and quite obvious too) cheater every 3 games.. And honestly, most of them cheaters seem to be Russian aswell. Coincedence? I think not.

The thing is that unproven accusations in cheating would never cost the accusator anything at the same time seriously damaging the accused one, whether hes guilty or not.

We have the exact same situation in chess: the cheating is the ultimate evil, which is ruining the game, because you obviously cant hold serious chess event online and nowadays cheaters are at chess "lans" too ("opens", chess festivals, tournaments, cups, etc).

But the unproven accusations is even worse. Because they destroy players reputation without any consequences to the finger-pointer. There were a lot of cases when young and talented player was accused during event - without any proofs at all -, which led to the real witchhunt (the same you see happening here) and as a result ruined the tourney for the accused, destroing his mental state, motivation, etc. And when it was found out that the cheater was not a cheater at all, nobody even bothers to apologise, in spite of the fact that the real damage was done and it seriously affected person's tourney if not the whole career.

If there was an automated system which banned chess players as soon as there is loading of chess bot detected on their phone that would be rightfully considered as proof. This is not some YouTube video hackusation, he triggered an automated program which looks for known cheats. There is no question that cheats were used on his account. He knows this and that's why he doesn't deny it, but instead says it wasn't him. If he can prove it wasn't him, then I'm all for letting him play and I'll apologise.

It's funny (or sad) how two-faced people actually are... one day they cheer for you, next day they want you to be burned alive.
The evidences are against Base for sure and him using cheats is kind of expected tbh (remember his wild rages). As a player he deserved to be punished in a apropriate way, but I don't see a reason to bash and humiliate him as a person, a human, saying "FU" and joking flat jokes. It never was and it should not be a personal thing. Base is banned for his actions, not for his name It's not hypocritical to judge someone by his latest actions.

Those that are focusing on the person instead of on the facts are precisely the Russians, defending base for who he is ("I've met this guy in person before therefore I know he didn't cheat"), instead of for what he did (VAC banned). If cooller is ever VAC banned then he should be out of Quake as well.

At the same time, if base one day can remove his VAC ban then the prosecutors of sorts (90% of ESR) won't be wrong about the person, but about the facts. In that case they shouldn't apologize or anything like that, because it never was personal.

Really funny how everyone in the community asked for an anticheat for years, yet when they have the most reliable of them all then some decide reputation matters more. Base's reputation should have never been brought up by anyone. What should be discussed is what happens if base cannot get his ban lifted, because if he can't then that means he cheated.

Also - base strictly said that his acc was manipulated to deletion of friendslist.

Doesn't seem he cares much about the shitty accusations spreaded over the English-speaking community, although he explained the situation in details to 125fps admins and all his buddies who cared to ask.

This agony of weak-minded people is really annoying sometimes - one said that cooller sees through walls, others say that Russians are cheaters, agent has timers, evi has autoaim, although they prove every time and again on lans their real skill. Fuck it, shut up already, ins and co.

Not to contest anything said here, but how does one's Quakelive account get stolen? At a LAN?

IRT this however, although the player is LAN proven and is of the biggest caliber, people have a legitimate right to be dubious when an exact account is banned by an automatic cheat system.

Should this person be any less of a caliber he would be 100% thrown out on the curb, no excuses considered. There are far too many situations when people allegedly lost control of their PC and a mysterious perpetrator of 12yo age located/downloaded/installed/used a hack in 5 minutes and got the account banned. I myself had to ban a well respected person who claimed his nephew downloaded a hack on his PC a week before league finals. Zero tolerance means exactly that.

But this has nothing to do with Base .

I watched Rapha`s stream this other day when he was spectating Base, and he was giving Base a really hard time for doing some really stupid shit.

And thats the thing, Base do things that point very clearly to the fact that he does not use aimbot,wallhack or timers.

Then so to people who beleive he cheats, what cheat is this supposed to be anyway ?

He mistimes, he gets tricked around corners, and his aim fluctuates from match to match , much like k1llsen, who also happens to use alot of accel .

Guys, show some evidence(go through demos,stream etc) or shut up

I will refuse to beleive that he is a cheater until some sort of evidence is brought up . There is a point to why most respected justice systems work like this , dumb or not, it should prevent people getting scammed into jail.

Noone "caught" him cheating, he got a VAC "Valve Anti Cheat" ban. That can mean many things, only one of them is base actually cheated.

from the top of my head here are some also likely alternatives:

-account was stolen by acquiring his password, then a cheat was used on his account
-account was (neglectedly) shared and his friend/nephew/whoever cheated on it
- VAC is a program. it can detect a false-positive, as it happened at times before
- cheat was with a different, unimportant game (like, editing items in minecraft or whatever)

It's possible to install/uninstall, switch on/off some cheats like aim assists without anything popping up on the screen: top Counter Strike players have done that on the biggest LAN tournaments, it's history.

The cheat file can even be stored and injected in the desired system trough the internal memory most gaming mouse today have.

You just plug in the mouse in the pc you're going to play with, the cheat is automatically installed and not detected; then you press some combination of buttons, and you turn on/off higher/lower the desired effects, and nothing is shown on screen.

You can have people standing right behind you, or be streaming, and they'll only see you pressing buttons quickly on the keyboard, nothing suspicious.

That is just to say that being a streamer, or having been to a LAN, means little to nothing in terms of cleanliness, after the 2015 CSGO cheatgate.

Letting a cheater play means taking a shit on legit players who love the game and play for fun. This kind of decision is idiotic, there's no other way to put it. I can't think of a way to hurt your league more. And this is not 125fps being naive, its them being biased. Should we just kiss their corrupt asses because they provide money for the cup? There are other cups which have small or no prize pools at all and people play those cups; Old map cups, dnf cups, various tdm and ca cups and leagues. The only reason none of these cups come close to 125fps in views is that they are usually not covered by proper stream with casters. The last 2v2 cup, for example, had rougly same number of players as an average sundaycup. Take into account that tdm is a lot smaller than duel is and there was 0 prize money.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying that its not great that there is a regular cup with prizes, but letting cheaters play will probably encourage more players to cheat in it, or to quit playing it.

Why 125fps admins are willing to flush their and the leagues reputation down the drain, just to protect a cheater, is beyond me. It leads me to believe that they are complete morons

I'm pretty sure amongst several high level players, there is not even a majority calling him a cheater. I've seen like NO DAMN evidences, like, blatent one, to prove base is guilty. I underline i'm not saying he is or isnt guilty, i just say that i've not been presented 100% conclusive game footage of Base cheating in ql :/ ... So until proven otherwise, hes still "clean". I agree with you but apparently, it's very unclear in which game "base" was banned from, to begin with and was it really him, to follow with.

I'm simply waiting for 100% evidences. I've never said he IS or IS NOT cheating man. I've said I didnt see a clip of him in quakelive that is 100% proving hes cheating or at least a string of several clips with very high probably hes cheating (being unconclusive by themselves but paired together, leave not doubt).

Wait and see man, dunno what to think about this really.... It's more or less 50/50 for me. Future will tell if you were right! Only thing i was saying is (not directed to you in particular, even though i dont remember every poster message content) at least pay some respect to the admin team (to a certain extent of course) and focus your "attacks" on the "guilty guy" :p .

1) if his account got hacked, he could retrieve it and try to prove there was a connection from unknown location. He doesn't even bother to retrieve it, so that speaks for itself.

2) if he retrieved the account, which is pretty easy to do, he could confirm what game the ban is for. Again, he doesn't want to retrieve the account.

3) there's 2 problems with this: a) most every demo by base would make people scream "aimbot" if it was show as some no name players demo. Players with already insane aim can use bots to get the little edge and do it perfectly unnoticable b) if he used wallhack and is not retarded enough to track people trough walls, then we can never be 100% sure, no matter how suspicious it looks. This is why you have VAC, to scan for cheats because its often impossible to make a conclusion based on demo review.

You are biased here. You've gone from your initial defending of 125fps admins, to defending base, which was your initial goal that you tried to camouflage so you look more objective.

And no, I'm not all for burning base in a public place. I'm just for banning base from all ql tournaments, for he's a pathetic cheating trash

Second of all, I was just amazed how ppl could be ungrateful openly insulting a team that invested efforts/money in a game they both like without a shade of gratitude (like, you can say what you have to say and not be insulting and jumping to conclusions?) at the first hiccup.

The goal of my very first sidenote was more to underline how amazed I was and how ppl tend to "forget". It's when you loose something you realize how you miss it.

IF he was hacked, then he needs to contact Steam support and recover his account(and they would most likely be able to sort it out because IP-s and all kinds of HWID-s can be pulled from the logs for investigation and identification purposes).
Has he communicated about getting hacked, and attempting recovery of his account?
Has he given a recount of the circumstances and details of him being hacked?
He hasn't. Go figure.

Once again, the pressure to explain himself is on him.
If he was banned for a different game, he would have / should have come forward and say so. He hasn't.
If he doesn't know which game he was banned for, that could mean: 1) he cheated in multiple games and isn't sure 2) he is unsure what happened - could be extremely rare case of false positive - in which case, once again, contact Steam support.
Also, cheating in a game other than QL is still unethical, and you lose your trustworthiness forever.

That's 100% irrelevant. QL has been on Steam since last year, and VAC is the anti-cheat system in place, instead of Sasparillo analyzing demos. This is something you have to accept.

I know basically all of the players from both game modes I play, it's the same few dozen ppl that have been at it for years, pretty much. Except it's shrinking, as ppl do quit. And we are not getting new players - not really, and not at a high(er) skill lvl - for obvious reasons which I hopefully don't have to explain. The effect of this duel league on my QL experience is practically zero. You definitely overrate this 'exposure'.

Anyway I'm not going to continue this conversation. It seems unproductive and a waste of time for both of us. We both made our points. You can reply if you want, I may or may not read it.

The wiki page does not go into detail. A VAC ban could mean a manual ban without any detection of memory manipulation (the likes of which indicate to bot, wallhack, autoshoot). The wiki page even states that VAC bans are done weeks or even month after an incident, whioch makes it super tough for the accused to explain any false bans.

While I do not question the validity of VAC in general, I would not blindly trust in it as the last "authority".

base not coming forward with answering any questions is most likely him not getting answers from valve. At least we should give him that and not jump to the "no answer means guilty".

Admins are supposed to promote fair play, apply the same rules for everyone and stick to the facts, not emotions or speculations.
The only fact here is that Base got vac banned, which makes him a cheater suspect.

Banning Base from the cups would be the only reasonable and logical thing to do. Just imagine him winning a 125fps under those circumstances - he wouldve been labelled a cheater forever, with 125 losing any credibility.
By making a thread full of theories on what couldve happened, they practically begged for the shitstorm that came. Everyone who's been around for at least a couple of years has seen at least a dozen of threads full of "I din do nuffin" and "He's a lan-proven, chill guy who would never cheat". Fuck, they shouldve known better.
It's not like Base helped them either with his shady statement.

AD the respect thing - I dont understand your logic. Does being grateful for someone spending their time managing cups automatically mean you cant disagree with them or criticize them for their decisions?
Or, do you think the admins value 125fps's name and A.A.'s money by allowing a cheater suspect into the tournament? I dont.

Base's acc WAS hijacked AND manipulated in harms ways, which also icludes anything to do with friendslist and any stuff the hijacker felt like doing. Steam support can see what locations logged in the account. Unless he used VPN it's gonna prove he was hacked or not. Let him login to the steam and show the VAC message about what games are banned. Beside, there is currently a method people can use to ban otherp people and cause fake VAC bans. Google it around :)

This started because somebody at twitch chat found out base's VAC ban (wasn't ins), then ins stole the plusses by being the one to create the thread.

And he isn't wrong either. It's been three weeks since the ban and still the ban is in place (VAC bans can be reverted), and still not even a reasonable explanation has been said ("omg i got hacked and the hacker cheated for me!!!!1! is not)

Base was always a good player, though not a top player. It's no surprise he beat Xron or Nitrino, because he can, and it's no surprise he lost to pavel. That's his level.

The thing is, one day Base went from that top32-top64 level of his (good but can't beat pavel), to challenging the top2 in the world (evil). Very, very sudden; a thing that never happens. Then he got VAC banned and then he came up with the excuse of "I got hacked and the hacker wanted me to look like a cheater, so instead of stealing my credit card info he cheated on a videogame. I have no proof guys, sorry!".

In case you haven't got it yet, I don't trust that because no one unbiased and with half a neuron can believe that excuse without proof, coming from a banned cheater that had went from good to best in the world in one day.

I don't know that s1mple guy but i'm sure he didn't have such a stupid excuse, and if he managed to revert the ban then he must have been not guilty. Both unlike Base.

The organizer can do whatever he wants. Still, Base should be banned from anything more serious, such as Quakecon or a possible Dreamhack. No good organizer and no serious organization would welcome sombra or zeroql to a big tournament, because it loses credibility. That is, until the VAC ban is lifted.

I remember at some time he played quite a lot(and mostly vs good players) and that can explain a little better results vs the around his level rivals (clawz, pavel, spart1e, etc)... as we all know in quake a little difference can play big on the outcome of the match.

Just before the lan he played a lot less vs lesser players and pavel is no joke online and deadly competitor on lans. You underestimate pavel and also how big difference can make playing 24/7 with good players vs here and there and lesser players.

Then again - if I missed something feel free to correct me. For me personally the truth is somewhere between, but he didn't cheat in quake.

Actually, if you look at the Base vs Pavel matches preceding Base getting banned, the last one was won by Pavel. The one before that by Base (3-2 in a best of 5, by one frag difference in 5th map). And before that they had again one win each.

So in the last 4 matches, it's 2-2, and it could have been 3-1 for Pavel if only for 1 frag.

I don't think Base losing to Pavel after months of not playing competitively proves much of anything (doesn't disprove anything either, naturally).

You are just plain na�ve if you still believe he is innocent. Any legitimate player who got falsely banned would be absolutely furious. They would stop at nothing to prove themselves, but when the ban occurred, he mysteriously goes on holiday for 2 week even tho he played everyday for the last forever.

I'm starting to think the only people defending now are either base himself or all the player who donated so he can go quakecon :D

I don't even think that people are that naive, they just do not care enough about cheating to lose one of their favorite players.

It's sad to see though how the quake elite mode became a shitfest like for example the excessive+ community. But I guess that happens when over the years most "normal" players leave and what is left are a bunch of special people. Some are special in a positive sense, i.e. being extremely dedicated to the game, while others are, let's call it, "weird".

He won a group match vs evil on a ruski lan 1 yearish ago. On stream. With Nitrino next to him. Lost to pavel on and off often throught his career. If base is an instance of getting good all of a sudden i dont know what is it getting better slowly. He hit the same stupid rails on lan 1 month ago. Stick to what is actually suspicious like the fact that he was vacced and had no excuse and when he was streaming had very up and down performances. People who defend base are most likely people who would like people like yourself, who lack logic, to refrain from expressing their opinion. So, like myself, are not really defending base, who most likely cheated.

He's not been around for at least 6 months but some how he has still managed to keep "in shape" from what I saw when he was streaming, however he managed to lose 19 games to Agent.

6 Months prior to his initial 6 months stoppage, he was consistently beating Agent, so it's either Agent, has become even better or something proves the original fishy-ness of this whole Russian Drama.

Did anyone see Agent vs Base, Vertical Vengence.

AGent drops down to lower yellow at practically simultaneous time base begins to go up jump pad. While base is flying through the air agent throws perfect rockets to make him land up top just how he wants....zones him off....from below with rockets, and then kills him up top...

was crazy and he does that kind of shit all the time. I did not play for the rest of the day because i cant touch that shit lol.

Yes, I know he won 3 and lost the rest. The wins were very clutch, nothing out of the ordinary, especially with the quantity of games played, you're bound to lose a few or not give a fuck in some situations.
