But I tried OW and don't like it THAT much. I'm really stoked for Quake Champions and Diabotical. OW is just not my type of game.

What Quake-like games need is players; certainly not another clone with 30 players. That's the revival 2GD wanted: players.

The success of Overwatch means the Quake revival is not going to happen, at least for years to come. Companies -id software included- will make games of the trendy subgenre introduced by Overwatch, without space for Quake-like games to have more than 30 players. Therefore, 2GD taking so much time means his project already lost all purpose.

With QC being team based, I think this is a good opportunity for 2GDs game to focus heavily on duel. Make it the fighting game version of arena shooters!

2gds game has 1/1000th the funding and 1/1000000th the advertising behind it. I'm sure if qc puts in even a halfassd 1v1 mode, more people will play that than this just because of the name quake

I don't know what is 2gd trying to prove but that ship has sailed. People are gonna play overwatch until quake is out and then they will play quake. There was a period of a couple of years when this game could have filled a void but now it's just too late. It's probably just a matter of pride to finish something he started after all. But to expect a huge success now when qc is already announced and people are playing overwatch, it's just too late. How is it even supposed to become an esport title? A small indie game vs valve bethesda and blizzard? Especially after gaben developed that special bond with jay after shanghai.

Not every quake pro/semi-pro player plays overwatch. I can tell you many have already tried (myself included) and already stopped.

The gameplay and meta is dull as fuck, also there's little influence one player's performance can have on a game, it can't be fully satisfactory to people who have been achieving stuff in Quake. And the skill transfer is there but the skill cap is so low that I can't see many quake players stand out other than having good contacts to be able to get themselves into top teams/organizations.

I mean the biggest proof I could bring to emphasize this is when we see winz playing in a team as MERCY. Being an aim prodigy is irrelevant in Overwatch. You just need a bare minimum of it. As for the rest of the game's aspects, it is far more tailored for people who have been playing games such as TF2 or even MOBAs at a high level.

Overwatch is big alright and I'm (almost) sure a couple of them will succeed at the highest level but come on, let's not count our chickens before they hatch (I googled that xD), give Diabotical a chance, atleast wait for the Kickstarter :).

Regarding the other points, why would they lie? What they said is perfectly reasonable. No reason to lie about that, it is what it is. Both Dahang and Winz started later than most quakers, and didn't play heavily. So the only way to help their teams was to play the lowest skills required kind of support- mercy.

Also if you lack the aim- because winz, cypher, toxic, strenx, evil, are "aim prodigies" in quake only, in other aim heavy games they aren't championship material. They just don't have the hand-eye coordination and the reflexes required to excel in aim-based games.

Oh, well, but they are mates. They know each other from forever and have been in similar situations before. But yeah, if you just need a mercy, you can fit almost anyone in that spot, it changes little to none.

Watch a cypher stream, when he's playing OW, and tell me he doesn't have a reflex/snap aim....

I actually followed a lot of Cypher's and Rapha's overwatch streams, and it's for that reason that i can tell they don't have not aims nor abilities timing/management on par with the top teams.

Cypher is the best quaker in overwatch, and even he looks "mediocre" compared to the top dogs. And i'm not talking only in flick/track aim, many others are smoother than him in movement, combos, timing the abilities cooldowns to the split second in between absolute chaos, range finding, corners peeking, situational awareness, and whatnot.

And i would be the clueless one...

QC = Overwatch, maybe a few tweaks here or there, but if it's class based it is a TF2/Overwatch clone and clones usually do not amount to anything. Just look how many MMOs tried to be WoW killers and how many MOBAs are still being made although LoL and Dota 2 have been in place for half a decade and will never ever fall from that position unless new iterations of themselves come out.

There is still a need and place for a game like this.

It's Quake + a unique ability. Now I'm not sure what autism power you used to denote that as 'class based', or even call it another Overwatch, but maybe you should first see the game? I donno.

Why do you think that the deathmatch fps and moba audiences overlap? Overwatch is Monday Night Combat without creeps lol

1/3 of the goal reached the first day so i guess this is gonna complete... have to say im real happy for 2gd, he could have done many other things but he decided to work on something he loved even if it was a slight gamble... folow your heart people!

he had new ideas for the game everyday and people thought he was just fantasizing and that it would be impossible to realize them all.. but look now, so many little cool things actualy implemented in the game, like tournament sponsors logo on the map and and health items etc...

reflex have to find a james of their own because you need this kind of creativity thats thinking about things besides just the naked gameplay and he proved theres lots of things you can do...
real shame the reflex team doesnt have this aspect covered and the fact that they set their ks goal a little to high to complete... sadenes me really because reflex is straight hardcore, technical and robust, with no sugar coating, its like if carmack and arqon had a baby together... a real quake 3 succesor.

15, 20 years ago, players were tru nerds, with broader interests regarding computers than just video games, nowadays people strugle to setup quake 3 even if it seems really simple, dl the game, get a good client, the mod you want, move some files and folders, edit the cfg... too complicated for many, and its the majority these days. diabotical went with the times and i just hope the reflex team do too

i have to say i really prefer the robot style over reflex' generic looking robots because they have "character".

other than that tho, i don't see how you can compare the two just off this trailer. there is no way to even estimate how polished diabotical is.
reflex on the other hand is really playable, has a ton of good looking maps, workshop integration, replays.. basically everything you'd expect off a polished game except matchmaking and ladders or whatnot.

And I went here, popped a stupid egg crush idea and fazz goes "I pitched that already". So it seems they took quite a time to get it done and think it all through. I was hyped for few games, but now I really want and hope this will get attention it imo deserves.

I didnt see any heavy use of air control or anything. Whenever he turned in the air it seemed to be a double jump or a dash in a different direction.

I would not be surprised if a lot of these things will be customizable. Some devs have the attidude 'we know better', but my impression is that it's not the case here. This game should be more community driven, as in, there would be variations, and people playing would determine their popularity. I'm sure 2gd has some non negotiable points when it comes to the design, but i doubt they area anything low level such as a particular form of air control, or a mode.

They definitely will be customisable. From the start 2gd has talked about making the game like a platform and in the trailer and stream he talked about moddability, being able to create your own movement systems and assets and all sorts.

I would rather play a game with physics and meta that arent just what i personally want, then to relearn new set of physics and meta each server i join.

I think you can make it work for after release as well. It's a matter of encapsulating settings properly into modules, and give them the appropriate visibility.

As far as I know they intend to let the community find the competitive mode themselves by "probing" and "testing" of sorts. They don't have a specific set of physics and gamemode in their head, the idea is to let as much freedom to the community as possible. If you like QW movement, then you should get some. If you prefer Q4, you will aswell.

This is mostly speculation from all the information I could gather but I wouldn't worry about physics in this game. Nor the competitive aspect : they do plan to have integrated social features aswell as automated tournament systems, ladders, stats and leaderboards.

If you haven't donated yet because you fear about movement or a lack of social features or community involvment, I suggest you put those fears aside and give it a go ;).

i'm guessing they were being pressured to make em look "iconic", easily visible, and large enough for newbies to hit. that's the trend nowadays. that's the current generation, a bunch of autists who put more effort into accusing everybody of cheating rather than getting good.

the freedom to modify the game to ur liking to such an extent is really refreshing and i can't wait to see how that will affect the numbers, given how restrictive today's titles are. hopefully more "e-celebrities" keep promoting it, otherwise it's just another indie game, everybody will forget about 2 months after launch

First time I watched Diabogical gameplay. But I think it's about the hitbox too. Modern games have actual hit models with x partitions following the visuals as much as possible. Therefore the headshot hitbox in CS:GO for example can move a meter just by using your mouse. This will be different for what's pretty much a sphere.

the eggbot came from twitch i think. he was showing concept art, basically generic reflex style robots. the artist had sent him the eggbot mostly as a joke and twitch chat demanded they use it.

I really like the games philosophy of maximising ways for the player to express themselves in game either through cosmetics like stickers or models to mechanics like movement and weapons etc. The whole WWE openings for each player in 1v1s is such a good idea too.
