I used to play this back in the day. Was fun for what it was. Better than doom 4multi that's for sure.

To be honest, I enjoyed playing without fullbrights and the element of darkness.

ESR had nothing to do with it, it was ID Software and some people in the AUS community that has made me this way.

It would be nice to see it happen but I think its far too dead now even for a one off small tournament. I rarely even bother looking anymore because 9 times out of 10 there isn't a single person playing.

Try contacting some old players, they might at least pop back on the servers from time to time for a trip down memory lane. Asking people to jump straight into a tourney might be a big ask.

I did "pro"variations of the maps many years ago which I still have and ready to go, it might be a good idea to use those on servers to give the game a re-booted feel.

They never really caught on as they came out at the end of the games life and all the people playing wanted the stock maps to train for quakecon etc. (every map change is listed in the typo riddled read me)

But I modded (DM2/DM3/DM4/DM5) them at my most active in the game (DUEL) and g0dm0de gave me lots of feedback, so I'm confident if they are given a chance they'll add a new twist to the game and more importantly put everyone back on a more even playing field as new tactics and strategies would be needed.

If you used this in conjunction with the EMZ mod, it probably would be a semi decent experience.

There's no doubt Doom 3 feels a bit like a bag of nails if you're used to quake, but you do adapt pretty quickly and having played a few games recently it still offers a unique play experience.

I'm sure any of the old players who played it have a soft spot for the game and might give it an occasional visit.

I played for a few hours recently and its quite easy to re-calibrate and as I said, its different, and for those still waiting for the next best thing, I guess that's Quake Champions or Diabotical. Both of which are long way away, and its Autumn/Winter soon.

Even if only a few come back for a few games a month, its better than so many empty servers.
