I guess 'vql' movement will be the basic one, and cpm/pql air control (maybe with slightly better strafejump speed gain) will be reserved for these characters?
I doubt the difference would be something like ut character vs cpm character, even syncerror isn't this stupid
on that note, it looked like there were two guns that either shoot very similarly, or are two different skins of the same gun (MG): http://imgur.com/a/WZeLo possible cosmetics?
Speedbot: @sponge are you able to confirm if every champion can strafe jump?
sponge: @Speedbot both strafe jump and air control variants were shown but prob can't talk about any further than that
This gameplay looks like q3 timedemo. Obviously it's possible to go really fast if you can strafe. Looks like a proper Quake to me. Just not sure if a "proper Quake" is what we need atm.
anxious eye represents whole ESR community
watching every picture and gameplay video like its last bit of water in a very dry fucked up arena shooter desert <3
i think it doesnt look too bad. theres some fast movement in there.
im not a fan of these high fidelity player and weapon models tho, they dont leave much up to the imagination. not sure how to explain it really. quake 1,2 and 3 models all had this kind of charm, because they didnt really look realistic at all, without being to comic-like.
the anarki model in the trailer looks like a high polygon punk, and doesnt have much charm at all. i wish they'd take a look at the ranger drawing from the quake live menu background and try to imitate that style for all models, maybe tuning down the comicness a bit.
hyper realistic models dont suite the game imo, im guessing thats one of the reasons some people say it looks like ut,,, both player and weapon models
hopefully you won't need a super-ultra-high-end computer to run it at 150fps. Hopefully it will be possible to tweak the GFX a lot, at least like reflex, and at best like ql.
Forget about it. No more unfair advantage of tweaking gfx. U can either play max out or don't play at all cos every player has to have the same chances
And the timers for maximum fair being
Also the quake is going to force only one type of mouse and keyboard for equal chances. Not to mention the screen size and type.
Looks nice, but open wide maps = bad gameplay. Im about qc_de_aztec
Also guns model design not cool. Its mechanistic, but shitty. More powerfull this type nice styles
How fucking ironic is this: bethsoft bought idsoft to produce a new UT game.
Seriously. The setting, weapons, jungle, teleporter disc... its all screaming UT'99 remake. I thought this was supposed to be a "back to the roots" Quake, dark and gothic. What the fuck.
I also love the "Pure skill" bit showing an item timer.
Item timers is a good feature in a casual game mode.
Do you really think that if they were to make a tdm mode as the competitive mode they'd keep the item timers ? Well, ok, they might. But I like to think not.
It's really hard to tell with just that. But I wouldn't be surprised if they did it. It seems to me like the best possible option and the idea has been around for years despite never being implemented.
ESR at it's finest!
They have just seen a small portion of the game, didn't play the actual game but already cry like as if they know the game already
Got to love it
exactly, bunch of sad old farts still crying about QW, so far what we seen game doesnt look much different than Q3, just with diffrent wpn models and better gfx...
Or the first of new series that only shares the legendary name. In my opinion there is no room for quake now. Its too unforgiving frustrating and simply hard. Just look at what kids play now. I always though cs is the easiest dumb game there can be but now we have ow and when i first saw it i couldnt believe anyone would ever want to waste time on this shit but yeah people do not want no challenge and complexity now. Games are easy brain washers thats all.
That's true, i remember back in the early 2000s cs was an equivalent to what cod is nowadays. A shooter for kids. Today i actually watch a lot of pro cs and it's really good. Things change.
you have never seen south african gorilla retch either but I bet you would find it no better than south african gorilla shit. It is not that this game is good or bad for the masses, our sell out pros played shootmania and now overwatch. It is just no self respecting quake player will touch because it is unreal tournament in a better coat. You don't know what quake is about if your stomach dosent turns seeing this trailer.
I really like that they took some cues from the people who did the CS:GO art direction and made everything washed out and hard to see since visual acuity is a skill too
first trailer looked promising artisticaly, this just looks like every other "space" shooter.. the graphics are nothing special, gibs and all the explosions and fx just look like randomly thrown together shiny stuff... no unique style that would stand out, no uniformity, rainbow flashy splashy...
this is gonna end up like quake 4 and et quake wars
I've seen people claiming champion disparities can be turned off but no source at all. Well in any case nothing stops players from agreeing to play with the same champion so no meta gets involved in the match. Who knows, maybe there will be some way to enforce that instead.
- Galena drops totems that heal her and team mates
- Sorlag spits acid for areal denial
- Clutch is a big slow robot with a lot of health that can activate a shield
These are not classes people, its nothing like ow. It has that core feel of quake.
I've done a complete 180 from how I was feeling about the game the last few days. Have you seen the QC leaked footage? Looks pretty Quake'esque to me. Dare I say it, I think they've actually made it better! never ever thought i'd say that but I can't fucking wait for chimpions.
it is like OW, although i always missed and i always wondered how would the game play with all weapons. now i can try it and even better, i can try it with actuall quake :)
I think it looks really good! Awesome sounds, good graphics and art. They focus on Esport. I like everything I hear. Its something new and fresh. If people want to play oldschool quake, just play QL or Q3. I really like what I see from Quake Champions!
we need a single topic for all these fucking quake champs leaks and stuff. i ain't gonna browse the quakecon topic to see wendel setting up and evil crying in the background.
Do Bethesda and id really think that this is how to make Quake a popular FPS?
Are they that scared of just going with the roots of the game?
Why do they feel the need to keep up with the "modern" times? Like...that isn't being true to being a game designer. It's basically copying or continuing what's currently going on.
If they want to be real, then make something actually "new".
If indeed no one cares about it then I think they will change it or switch the focus on another mode. You don't get to decided if people care about it or not, though. It's not Domination, by the way. It's TDM with some kind of frag multipliers given for controlling zones.
Its weird i know, ... quake and fancy gfx is something quakers just cant compute... we have been left in the dark or rather we chose to be left in the dark, cuz in the light you cant see the screen properly, everything glowing and shit wtf, turn the blinds down honey cant see shitz cuz of the sun.
...kkkk, were was i, aha, yes, UT gfx wasn't bad, it is just we associate it with UT movement which is i agree utter blasphemy to the movement, but we have to separate:
UT movment - bad
QC movment - good
UT gfx - good
QL gfx - meeeh
QC gfx - good
There are too few abilities and differences among the champions for them to dictate the game-play by themselves. Those abilities will have an impact for sure, but it will not be anywhere close to OW. From what I've pieced together from the leaked footage, those are not what I would call classes that we know so far. The core game-play seems to revolve around advanced movement, weapon switching, air-control, there's still timing items, much of what we know Quake is.
So all of you unintelligent, nonsensical, pessimistic, filthy non-believers can burn in hell!
"Quake Live is mostly about timing and controlling the items like RA, MEGA, YA. But if you look at Quake 4, it was just as important to control the weapons of your opponent as it was to take armors and megas. Since the weapon respawn is 5 seconds in Quake Live, it’s impossible to keep your opponent from getting the weapons he wants after a period of time. You can be successful for a while, but in Quake 4 it could be better to give your opponent an RA if you could take the lightning gun or rail or rocket. Because then you would win the next fight without any trouble at all. But in Quake Live you are pretty much forced to take all the fights at all armors and megas. And since Quake Live doesn’t have as much dodging involved as Quake 4 did, you almost have to get more armor and health than your opponent if you wanna win the next fight. Sure you can win certain battles if you position yourself a bit better, but in general you pretty much have to be equal or have more to win a fight in Quake Live.
It’s just another way of playing a game, and you do what you have to do to get better at the game you are playing. But that’s kinda the guideline for Quake Live, only control armor and health and get the best position you can for the next fight.".
I think that it would be a really great idea to have weapon spawning in QC slower than in QL. Definetly would add some depth into the game and would provoce more fights on the map, not only at the powerups/armors/MH but around the weapons too.
Newb friendly basically. There was a point, I think while it was still closed beta, where T4 actually still had 15sec for weapon respawn (not just RG). Some baby started crying on the forums about it and they changed it.
Quakelive has had lots of subtle nerfs to make it more friendly to newer players.
Comparing what I can think of off the top of my head:
- Weapon respawn from 15 > 5
- Stacking ammo. So if you pick up RL you get 10, pick up RL again you get another 10. In Q3 it would cap it at 10 and increment by 1 above every time you picked up a new weapon e.g. 10 > 11 > 12 etc.
- Railgun 100 damage to 80
- LG 8 damage to 7 (and earlier in QL it was 6 at one point)
- Faster rockets, less splash
- Increased step height so you don't miss jumps like bridge to rail as often
- Autohop strafe jumping
- Respawn timers
- Loadouts
- Teammate indicators
I personally prefer Q3 gameplay to QL, it lets creative and agressive players have more ability to make plays and controlling weapons + powerups adds another layer to dueling.
The main gameplay 'improvement' I would say that QL has over Q3 is the spawn system. Spawning away from your opponent, if the map is designed properly so that it can't be abused, is much better than losing 3-4 lucky spawn frags in a row like you did in Q3. That and you could argue that the rail damage to 80 and lower LG damage was needed because of better internet connections, better netcode and mice/mousepads since the early 2000's when Q3 was released.
Yeah you can beast mode in Q3 more than QL, but you could argue that QL is more new player friendly because it takes a lot more to kill someone at full 200/200 stack.
In Q3 even if you had full stack, if you made a stupid move you would get punished and killed, in QL you can make more mistakes and not get punished as hard because rail 80 damage LG 7. You get hit with 2 rails in a row in QL in full control? No problem, just make sure you continue item control and damage opponent enough so they don't go for next RA / Mega. If you got hit with 2 rails in Q3 that was your whole stack gone and you had less than 100 hp and no armour.
The 15 minutes instead of 10 was needed in Q3 because of real comeback potential, even 10-15 frags difference you can still come back in Q3.
idk why no id tech6, doom MP works quite nice, but is frame dependent? .., idk.
I hope they will put in the effort in bringing the same quality maps as they did for doom. millions of trimmings and displaced / dislodged bricks, rocks, metal and random dirt, garbage and fucking washed up debris and different stuff and materials.
I have a strange suspicion that using saber instead of id tech6 could be somehow connected with the story of how QC seen the light. First it was planned to be only Quakelive 2.0 and maybe they hired a side company because ID werent interested themself much in the project. But after huge success of Doom 4 they suddenly changed their mind and decided to make a next big tittle out of it. So, having huge part of engine already done by saber they have to keep it, why waste all the money invested.
wasting money is not such a big issue since bethesda canceled their first doom project., but i would understand that id wouldnt want to go that road again.
Same guy who fucked up Quake 4, just a friendly reminder everybody. Of all people to resign so far, why not this guy? cause he made edge and some mediorcre doom maps in the 90s?
