Watched the vid on yt only, and i cant understand how you can judge it from a 360p 4mins clip.
I think isnt bad, great announcer, bad animations and railgun model (still in alpha stage, so i hope they can fix them), classic quake sounds and speed...tought worse from last debut trailer.
PS: cooldown seems to be legit, no spam ability every 5-10 secs
I like DOM a lot. There is a lot of action, it's fast and noob friendly. In my opinion it's perfect mode to attract some new blood to a game, maintaining some oldschool Quake core gameplay in the same time.
the new UT has a type of Clan Arena, but with items on the map and in between rounds you get to choose your spawn point according with your performance in the last round
From what I understood from looking at it each captured obelisk gives a multiplier on frag points. When you don't have any obelisk captured you get regular points for frags , one captured gives 2x points and two captured give 3x points. Seems like tdm with objectives that give bonuses pretty much.
I'd say you cannot comment on the game and it's content, I am sure, but I don't think any NDA covers feels so, fuck the weather:
Describe how it felt playing a game you went to QCon to play?
Did it feel organic? Did it feel primal, did you feel refreshed playing anything there?
How about feeling afterwards, did you feel sad and missing the experience or did you feel relieved at finishing the experince?
I think anyone can justify conversing about feelings on an interenet forum ... it's normal nowadays :)
They paid for my trip to qcon so i can test and give feedback on QC (which is also why i did not play the duel tourney, i did not even see most of the games) but i am not working for id. ;)
Apperantly he was also doing baloons which they werent delivered to the girl who was, i presume a daughter of the guy making the video, good job dad, girls life ruined!!!!!!... on the other hand good job dad for delivering that clip to us quakers, fuck baloons WOOHOO.
Love the art direction. So far so good. Of course it will be possible to tone down but I hope they don't allow the game go look shit because there are hardcore players that doesn't mind just playing point and click in black and white environment with blue and green models.
We need players into new Quake game meaning it needs to cater to casual crowd so keep the visuals with slightly toned down option.
I'd argue that ow level visuals are cleaner than q3 without picmip.
If a game looked like ow with brightskins it would be quite amazing.
ut4 is free. I recommend giving the meshed maps - outpost, chill and titanspass a go to get a feeling of how shit visibility is with this level of detail.
You really need to start distinguishing between casual style of playing and esport.
Esports is something that is a construct of sponsors, teams, leagues, money, casters, training and commitment.
Casual gaming and it's appeal is:
You jump into a game that is time restricted and can play with guys of similar skill being equally challenged to push your own skill limit and play until you personally want. This means a game or two or 5 but without any further commitment from you to ever play that game or that hero or anything.
One of best comment a friend of mine had between OW and DOOM was: I can jump into DOOM MP, shoot my way out of most situations without waiting on a team and feels good about it, while for OW I need a team, and I need a team that knows some stuff about the game.
So I'd say if id plays their cards right and push the esports component you might be surprised at how much of a response the casual style that quake always had could mean for the game in general.
