Duel is definitely getting a classic mod

i was under the impression that all id has said is that there will be a duel mode, but nothing more specific than that?

but yeah, i love q4 movement. i'd say it's far harder to master than pql movement though which is why i can't see them adding it.

Between Q4 and QL. Q4 was too fast, a solution in the middle with crouch sliding wouldn't be bad.

No CPMA. It's shit to watch, it may be funny to play, but it's not fit to attract new players, since the skill gap is immense.

I think there will be everything for every1, cpm, crouchsliding, vq3, ... Just different champs.
I would love to see how things will clash, but i predict like everyrhing in quake it will come to positioning, aim skill etc.

Q4 movement so shit. Worst from all quakes. Just look some late games on monsoon etc. fucking 329392932 metters slides, and 9492493 meters high ramp jumps.. Q4 movement before last major updates was good. they fucked up it..

Since when Quake is a simulation game? Quake4 crotchsliding is the best invention to quake since strafejump, people hate it mainly bc crouching becomes too important and having to tap another key with all the other stuff that you have to tap makes them mad.

don't get me wrong about crouchsliding. I LOVE it, BUT distance is to big like 2-3 times in Q4 as I would like.

Nice then, i agree the maximum slide reach can be safely lowered from Q4s implementation.

Q4 movement for me was an enhancement to VQ3 movement without going totally insane like CPM did. Crouch sliding was great for getting around the map fast, but when it come to engaging in fights it didn't add much to it, so you still had standard fights and dodging / rocket jumping without the craziness of CPM dodging and air movement + fast weapon switching.

It also allowed for cool ducking moves through gaps and creative ways to traverse vertical ledges by going from a big crouch slide into a ramp jump.

crouchsliding sux :

1) bunny-hopping is already in a lot of "popular" games, only q4 has crouchsliding, so the new players will have a harder time to adapt to crouchsliding rather than bunny-hopping
2) it's retarded to have to crouch instead of jumping, to get speed
3) because you are crouching, it's harder to make you bounce in the air with rockets, which results in less potential air-rox, unlike with bunny-hop where you're always jumping so if you get hit by a rocket at your feet you will fly like a mofo = more potential air LG/Rox
4) air-control/bunny-hopping has been here since quake 1, crouchsliding, like i said, is only in q4, and q4 failed hard, let's forget this game really
5) since you need a bind for crouch, and one for jumping, and then alternate jumping and crouching, at the end you will need more binds to reach great speed instead of just having to jump and turn your mouse

Q4 did not fail because of crouchsliding. That game was DOA because of how broken it was.

Reflex allows custom sounds for now as far I know, and some people use the ones from Q4.

What's wrong with allowing the champions abilities in duel? If it turns out that it is extremely unbalanced toward one class then I would consider having a "classic" mode with everyone as the same class or no classes whatsoever.

Drafting works for DOTA with picks and bans, so why not try out something similar for duel. It would bring something fresh to tournaments/cups and if it doesn't work during the beta then there is always classic mode to fall back to.

Champions with their abilities should be left out of duel.

Can't wait to see/play matches when your opponent plays as Anarki (that supposedly has PQL movement), gets a lucky frag or two, and then finally for the rest of the match runs away from you, defragging all over the place while you swim in a swampy pool of tears.

Elements of map design and movement implementation can stop this though. What's stopping someone from running away perpetually on aero in QW? Oh yeah, you can't stairjump. I'd gladly go without stairjumping if it meant I could have more more enjoyable movement.

I've tried VQL, PQL and CPMA and I would like to see the latter. But understanding that new players would go bananas learning the movement stuff I would vote for vanilla and CPMA available for selection.
