most of the r_ cvars need a 'vid_restart' just say ;)

it's the main problem with lightmap and high picmip.

only way to fix that is to use

/r_vertexlight 1
/r_mapoverbrightbits 8
/r_mapoverbrightcap 145

the lighting will look worst but at least you'll get a more "consistent" visual

Thanks for the replies everyone. It was the vertexlight that got rid of them completely.

Everything looks nice again. At least, It's super close to how I remember, if not exactly the same. It's been a while so I'm not sure. But I really like this way and bright green Keel is easy to see on all maps I've killed bots on today while setting things up. I do think it kinda sucks that we have to screw up our name on steam friends to make it look right in quake, though.

Oh, and I can still bridge to rail so they should just go ahead and mail me the quakecon 2017 1st prize check now.

you can try to change r_overbrightbits on 2 all textures will gettin darker but the enemymodel goin rly bright :p - maybe ull like it ^^

Wrong. It's r_mapOverbrightCap. You have it lower than 255, and that's why it looks like shit. Turn it back up to 255 to make it look as good as it can.
