Can someone please think about how netcode influences the game before release and actually take steps to reduce the effects?

(For instance make the rail not shoot instantly but delay the shot (on the client) for several ms, and then use that time as a max for ping correction, or have an actual server state that is consistent with the game and not inconsistent due to lag correction lookbacks?
Or make movement 'somewhat predictable' for the clients such that the extrapolation on the client can be much improved, and use that in a much more decent attempt to get rid of the horror of unlagged.
Or perhaps make a decent tradeoff against the options... Or just ask me how for creative solutions to whatever kind of gameplay you want to achieve. etc.etc. I can go on and on like I got sponge up against the wall by giving example after example of how they could fix stuff, but didn't.)

Right now we have only planned shit (=abilities) and we will evaluate this during beta for duel mode.

Ye, they said first testing then changes, regarding abilities. So if you disable them, you cant know. Besides, who knows i belive abilities will work nicely.

Wouldnt it be possible to make abilities work with 1v1? I am just thinking about maybe ban/pick phase before match? Maybe you could switch Champions everytime you die. Like in Overwatch? Just 2 very simple things that came to my mind that would make it equal for both players. I bet there is even better ways to make 1v1 work with abilities.

That's the problem, i kinda need to buy a new PC within the next month, my current laptop is dying and i want to buy one good enough to run QC perfectly, also not that expensive, all i see is Nvidias 960 GTX :/

Pascal is coming to notebooks and they will have the same desktop cards for it (slightly lower clocks). I suggest you try to hold on with the new buy til a few months. A 1060 would give you near gtx980 performance in a notebook, (probably decent fps for years in medium settings, til the new console generation comes and sets the bar higher again in the industry)

I dont want a notebook / laptop, i been using ones for the past 10 years or so and i always end up with the same problems ( overheating especially when i try to stream, unstable FPS in some games, overheating while playing the newer games, cannot update it with new graphic cards or anything new, fan problems, again, no 120 or 144 hz screen etc... ) laptops are always good during the first year then they start to screw things up, so this time am going for a Desktop.

i just bought i5 6600 and zotac 1070 and i must say doom MP runs smooth as butter on ultra and 1080p runs from 140-200fps.

It looks like tunisianet is a bit cheaper but it's your choice. I can help with building the computer if you change your mind (it's easy like putting LEGO together).

Just to make things clear, the GTX 970 is hell of a card, but you will definitely won't run things in ultra with it at 1080p. I have a 980 since when it came out (I bought it in 2014 December), and it was already weak to go for ultra in most of the AAA game at that time, let alone how weak it is today.
High settings is a different story tho, if you are willing to set some settings to High/Medium instead of ultra, then the 970 could be enough, but I would definitely get a newer gen card and also a Skylake i3 cpu with DDR4 (and DDR4 is actually cheaper than DDR3 nowadays).

i am sure you will run it at ultra with that.

Wow, the new AMD card can beat a two years old mid-range Nvida card.... stop the press!

1, Most of the 970 overclock to 1400-1500Mhz (and will still need less power like that), so it's still faster in most of the directx11 titles.

2, At this moment, about 80 percent of the directx11 games run better on Nvidia.

3, Nvidia drivers and software (Shadowplay, Ansel, inspector, etc) are much better (the difference is night and day, really)

4, the Strix is the weakes of all the 970 cards, it has only one power connector and also the weakest VRM cooling.

5, the video is a joke

That being said, the 480 (as a brand new generation card) is probably still a better buy than the 970 indeed, especially with directx12 titles, and AMD's philosophy also more appealing compared to Nvidia's Apple like cruel practices.... but I can't help it, I prefer Nvidia at this moment simply because they make better and higher quality products, and I won't go AMD until most of the games also go AMD too.

I still recommend you try to get a Skylake i3 and ddr4 memory if it's the same price. Put a single 8GB stick into the PC (dualchannel does nothing for gaming with dedicated video cards), so you can put in an other 8GB stick later when you will need more memory (you don't need more than 8GB at this moment).

imo it should do dmg depending where u hit... headshot =80/100, dmg Bodyshot=60/75, arms and legs 30/45

railgun is a gamechanging, look at aero in qw and look at it in QL, it's quite different... when railgun is a factor in the game you start playing more CS and less quake. The game needs that long range action but you shouldn't buff that one weapon for the simplest reason: if player A has rail and player B doesn't, you can keep engaging long range very safely; undeniably many people abuse rg.

it also ruins most of the midair action cos most players learn to pop up enemies with rl and swtich to rg to finish off...

you want strong RG? you probably have instagib.

Not sure if you played Quake 2 or not, but the RG in there does 100 damage and the game is balanced and everything is fine, getting RG doesnt mean that you already won the game and all you have to do is spawn frag your enemy, hitting with RG in q2 is not as easy as in QL, if you get 60 % RG accuracy in q2, you are probably using an aimbot.

But i like the fact that you can spawn frag your enemy with a powerful enough weapon and not have to shoot 3 plasma shots and one railgun shot or smth, and maybe they can make it an ability for the Grunt Champion, making him able to do 100 damage with RG like in good old q2 and removing some of his HP or smth.

All what id been saying is " we took the atmosphere from Quake 1 and added the gameplay of Quake 3 " but what about Quake 2 ? why does everyone hates it ? why is it always forgotten in the Quake series, even in the eyes of idsoftware....

I didn't play q2 often, i downloaded it once to play with a friend, that's all.

q2 had an amazing movement system and many games took parts of it, hell, even warsow uses a modified q2 engine... how can you say it was completely forgotten? From all the things that q2 has, 100 rg dmg is the last thing i'd chose to add to a new game, even hand grenades were cool as fuck... I'd go for that without a doubt.

True, Hand Grenades were so good but i dont think they will add an ability to make a champion able to get the grenades in his hand and.....oh wait, it can be, Grunt can have the ability to launch the grenades with his own hands, besides the GL that is.

And honestly, the RG was a kind of " powerful " weapon during the q2 duels and TDM games, you have to control the RG ( and weapons in general ) but by QL, everyone can hit 60% RG and hitting became easier over all with all the weapons, as much as i hope for a 100 dmg RG in QC, i dont think it will work, it is easier for everyone to hit with any weapon since the ping doesnt really matter that much and the appearence of timenudge etc... if 100 dmg rg Grunt Champion is not possible, at least i which weapon control will be back, where weapons spawn every 30 seconds or so.

But yeh, it is forgotten, when ppl talk about Quake they usually talk about QW or Q3, and it got hated even more when Q4 was called as the successor of q2, Q4 is not even close to be like q2.

And the guys at id said " Quake Champion is about the atmosphere of qw and the gameplay of q3 " nothing from q2 is there.

They will remember it during next Qcon tho since there probably will be a Quake 2 Duel tournament ( which i might attend ).
