Stupid. Way to show no balls, id. Seriously, how can QC be a great game if these clowns have so little faith in it that they're caving to all the cries for a classic game mode?
If they actually had something good to give us, they'd tell us to fuck off and then when we got the full game it would win us over, but now guess what's going to happen. The community is gonna be split between Q3 autists and everybody else, and the game is going to die 4x as fast.
its a bad move to add a "classic" mode.
the hero abilities arent a bad thing and it would add depth to the game. ( and its far away from being overwatch/moba-shiet)
q3 ppl need to adapt and get used to new stuff. but hell no, everywhere here ppl are whining cause its not their beloved 1999 quake. LOL.
QC is damned, if it doesnt attract a whole new playerbase.
those few q3 crybabies, can play their old games then.
Heroes are only a good thing if your IQ is sub 100. Rock paper scissors... only slightly more advanced than tic tac toe (which a chicken can fucking play and never lose at).
This game is shit. Don't even need to play it to know it.
Do you have any more information about the ranking leagues etc... ?? will it be like, ranking in each country ? or each continent ? so like best 5 players of Europe create Team Europe and best USA and best Africa etc... and then they play to find the best World Wide team ? ( same for Duel too ) and maybe some kind of Qualifiers like CPL etc..
no, it might be like Grand Finals with teams from each country gathered during Quake-Con or some big LAN, imagine Australian team vs the African team, 400 pings everywhere lol
Quake Champions isn't the clone of any game. In fact i keep trying to think of a game to play until i get my hands on QC again but nothing comes to mind besides Quake Live.
QC plays nothing like Overwatch or TF2. I see this more of a marketing problem right now because everyone instantly thinks of those 2 games when id mentions champions.
I agree, calling it Quake sounds a lot better to me. just like they did with DOOM. More ballsy and edgy, like the core of the games been kept but its been reinvented for 2016. Maybe they really want to get people thinking this is a new modified quake since the current quake population is a tumbleweed.
Yea, that's what I essentially said in my last sentence, but I still wish it wasn't called "champions". You'd just get no street cred telling people you're off to play Champions and more likely get he piss taken out of you :D
I don't think the name is ultimately a big deal though, i'd still play it even if was called hello kitty quake adventure.
Hopefully the 'champions' part is also an indication that they will take the competitive tournament scene seriously with this release and host big tournaments with lots of hype to attract the best gamers and large audiences. This is what you have to do these days to make a video game live up to its true potential.
If they host a huge tourney to kick it off, I would hope they would fly out the top five or so Quake pros (rapha, cypher, evil, dahang, cooller for example) to the tourney and put extra bounties on their head if someone can take them down in the tourney or something like this. I think that would be cool and also go with the champions theme. And they should have the tourney in Vegas or nyc or something.
Hey fazz I'm curious about your 5960x CPU and streaming! As a top/competitive player you can probably determine whether there's any lag whatsoever. Do you feel any lag at all in Overwatch and/or QL? I think I may get an i7-6900K if you're definitely getting no lag while streaming but I don't want to waste the money. Sorry I would PM you but the messages only last for 7 days.
If u want to use x264 as encoder on a single pc setup u need a CPU like that to maintain high framerates. AND you need to overclock it. Unless I got it up to 4300-4500 it did not feel good even in Quakelive. But at 4400(which I run it at now) it feels very good in every game I have tried so far. But you need a stronk gpu too for overwatch, 980 was not enough, the 1080 upgrade helped immensely there.
Quake was shaped and polished for decades by passionate community members and pro players to become a good and balanced game. If you just look at the last three games in the series (Quake3 Quake4 or QuakeLive), they were all made playable and good by the community (yes even QL, because when it came out (with its epic queue fail to begin with), it was a complete garbage, even worse then it's 10 years old 1.32c Quake3 brother without any mods installed. Making a good fps game, worthy of the name Quake is no easy task, and dropping out all the knowledge and experience of the previous versions would be the real “clown” thing to do, imho.
That idiot is trying to sound cool when he is as much of a nerd as the next guy.
Listen #1, im sad too that most people are drone plebs with shit taste incapable of seeing the value in Q3's mechanics/aesthetics, but that's how it is. Trying to dumb down a game and add gimmicks to it doesn't make it better and doesn't make you cooler by playing it.
If they allow a classic mode, people cry about how they "don't have balls".
If they don't add a classic mode, they are forgetting hardcore fans.
At the end of the day, you are the naive autist trying to act as if this game will ever be good and a mainstream success.
You cannot make a compromise with Quake, it's either a hardcore purist game or it isn't. You either please the hardcore fans or please no one. You are delusional if you think all those casuals are going to stop playing Overshit to play QC.
This will be a short lived game, like ET: QuakeWars. In other words: id fails to both please dumb casuals and hardcore fans, once again.
In any case, if the game's life expectancy is threatened by the "q3 autists" since it would split the community, then the projected userbase is shit since the "q3 autists" are already a tiny group of people. So complaining about them fucking up the game is delusional and retarded as it gets.
PS: You can call them "q3 autists" all you want to cope with the fact that "q3 autists" means objectively superior taste for a game that has been perfected for decades.

There is nowhere stated that it's going to be a classic mode. You can make a custom game with vanilla settings, but that's a good thing. It has always been possible to mod servers/games in previous Quake releases and/or other shooters. The most important thing idsoftware needs to focus on is marketing and we'll be good.
The problem I have is that it all seems half arsed. I like that Q3 CPM has 1v1 AND NTF. NTF is class based CTF but done right (speed differences, weapon differences, health regen differences, movement property differences... all split into 4-5 classes etc). Quake Champions, based on marketing talk from Tim, is Quake but with plus one ability (be it movement, healing, damage... or whatever). They should go all the way with classes for team play, as an additional to "turning it off" for hardcore modes where classes do not work like duel. Otherwise what's the point in seperating such a "minor" but at the same time "major" difference?
guess what, Q4 had none of this champions nonsense.
it was an evolution of Quake, what we know about QC hints at a very different game. also I liked Q4 maps, I don't think any of them were remakes of old classics. Phrantic was a remake of some cpm map but I don't think that counts because it was only popular in Q4. so the new game could also have new maps and be an evolution of Quake. but they chose champions instead.
Because everyone was into console gaming at the time , or playing world of war craft, or too cheap to upgrade their rig for q4.
Quake 4 had no chance to succeed, the deck was stacked against it, my man.
Think a lot of ppl gave q4 a chance tbh. Was basically the “it” fps game that all the gamers tried to switch to.
All it needed was to be half decent¸ coz it had excellent timing when it was released
But then rember the you need all the maps that are on server to play, but you can’t find out what those maps are, or hud rendering that cripples your frame rate (which is connected to your ping) issues
At the end was polished really nice (combined with mods) and was a great game, but by that time ye ppl gave up.
Yeah, for me IIRC, I was still way into Q3 and I was finally getting good fps. I think a lot of people were still just way too happy playing Q3 and getting good frames.
the problem with q4 is that in these communities people see it as a mp game when the truth is that if you ask about it to the casual crowd they see it as another SP game.
People went thru the story, shat bricks with the stroggification and left the game forever. Mainly because the game wasn't mp focused, had shitty UI and bad maps. It wasn't ready to be an esport, they totally missed the point when they made it, looking back at q3's scene ofc.
Nobody played q4 online because it wasn't advertised as one, despite hearing from Willits saying stuff like "we always had a very competitive scene, our games were esports". At least syncherror got that right mainly because he follows the scene. Basically, q4 should have been in QL's place, imagine if q4's release went out like QL is right now... with those graphics back then (it was p good at the time).
ID has always been an engine maker company that release sp fps otherwise we wouldn't need so many mods like osp, cpma, q4max, ezquake, etc...
Willits said several times (also during the last days) that the beta will start in 2017 and the final release is in 2017.
the beta will be pretty long according to them.
he also added, it would start early next year (beta).
Probably only for the first few games, then all quake players will get rated to tiny top percentage and youll end up playing against same people you've been playing in ql
Don't forget that pro players typically don't look for the same thing as the Esr hivemind though. They don't want a Q3A copypasta, they want a popular game in which their skills transfer.
The quakecon attendees ive spoke to that actually played The game say that they really looking forward to this game. And those were youre hardcore ql pros..
Or maybe its better to just keep beating the dead horse for another 10 years?
doubt anyone will play championless customs. i won't be anyway. it's pointless to play something just to satisfy 200 morons from a website that should've been long forgotten.
imo, either full on champion gameplay or no champions at all in quake.
I think id fucked up. If Quake champions would have came out when Doom did, it may have kept the pros that have defected to OW. Doom is a good game but it could have came out anytime. QC only chance is if by the time it comes out, everybody is burnt on OW.
If anything it's better, some of the quake guys who switched are getting huge twitch sub numbers and are doing really well fucking up the rest of the competition in OW. When QC comes around they'll play it and no doubt stream it to lots of 12 year old OW kids, who will then think "heeeey, I want to be a chempion like cooller too" and play the game.
I'm not going to play OW, but i like how they headhuntered 15 000 000 ppl into the genre. If even the tiniest minority, say, 10% of them would try QC and like it, it will be a colossal input.
And you're right, ID should bribe the fuck out of streamers as Blizz did, so the beta will be HYPE HYPE HYPE.
A shooter is a shooter. Blizzard does indeed have an indelible art style and streamline, but they don't provide the nitty gritty gore that many shooters have. Quake always provided me with the most satisfying gibs.
- you already played both games? no.
- hf with diabotical and its 10 ppl playing.
- diabotical looks like a kiddy version of overwatch. (gameplay is different ofc)
Diabotical will definitely have a much larger and enduring audience in the long run. QC might have more people playing on release but all the teenagers will stop playing after a month and leave the 2 hardcore iD fans playing by themselves.
Diabotical will succeed because 2GD is very transparent with his development, has connections in e-sports (Like Dreamhack, so more chances of LANs) and has fans in other games like dota 2 that will try out the game. Also QC will probably be ridiculously priced for a multiplayer game while Diabotical will be cheaper. Also I'd rather trust 2GD than the clowns at iD Software who have a track record of disappointment and dumb decisions.
Playerbase: "could you consider implementing x feature or changing y thing"
iD, a huge company owned by suits: "S-sure, we just have to grovel at the feet of our shareholders and superiors first b-but we'll totally do it!"
Playerbase: "could you consider implementing x feature or changing y thing"
2GD: "Sure, since I'm not beholden to shareholders and, in turn, the production of lowest common denominator garbage and trend-chasing"
Don't actually see the problem in QC resembling Q3 gameplay. Just look at Diablo series. Same shit, new graphics, slight changes in mechanics, but same core. And it's popular.
The only tiniest problem is that Diablo series is AAA-superhits. So they have been repeating a mindblowing success, not just some mediocre niche popularity as q3 had (Diablo 3 was sold by more than 30 millions as far as i remember).
Can't really agree that Q3A had a mediocre niche popularity back in a day. Also given that commercial success of Diablo was heavily affected by it's stupidity and no incentives to think and adapt rather then just the necessary perk of iron ass to farm items, you can't directly compare those titles.
Given the complexity of arena-shooting in general, Quack had tons of success. Develop yourself, not your avatar, is way harder, isnt it?)
You don't have to defend Quake from Diablo, it was your own analogy at the first place) I think that Diablo is like shopping to men, constant race for a cool-looking boots and shit)
My point is that repeating one of the most famous game ever (top10 of all times) is not the same thing as repeating 16 years old game with only a few millions of players in its peak.
People just don't give a fuck any more about quake.
All these Quake gameplay clones that are coming out will just be dominated by anyone who has a solid base in quake 3 et all. Then this will make the noobs leave and the scene will become stagnant once again.
I just don't think there will be any major tournaments when these mobas are so popular.
I'm not talking about professional money earning players. I am talking about people who have played for over 10 years.
The skill gaps probably too large to bridge now. Why get good at something that would be uphill struggle? Most will play something new where no one has a leg up from the start.
