As the state of the game dwindles and the pla
yer ba
se decreases, it seems that the money cows and power hungry admins have ditched all ethics regarding fair competition. With the recent
base drama, where admins said that proven pla
yers can cheat*, behind us everyone thought and hoped that it will be the last of such kind in our scene. Unfortunately, a new scandal is unraveling behind the scenes of
GT Quake Live Duel Cups. Current situation shows that professional pla
yers and community favourites have gained privileges compared to their competitors.
The matter at hand is lordsoth, admin of GT QL Duel Cups pressuring brescia/lars to replay his game against yet another community favorite, Spart1e. The cup in question was played on Sep 13th, 2016. After 7 hours of exhausting games, both lars and Spart1e had the same amount of wins. Seeing how lars beat Spart1e over 3 maps he got ranked by challonge** to 5th, while Spart1e ended up 6th. Mathemathics here is simple, both players have exact same W/L (3/4) and only thing separating them was match wins against each other. That statistic was in favor of lars and you'd think everything was clear. And it was for almost a whole week. With recent development and one of top4 ranked players possibly dropping, out trouble arose for lars. Lordsoth all of a sudden decided to ignore all common sense and official rankings and started acting on his personal preference. Two players who had no chance in participating in the prize pool distribution are suddenly within a reaching distance of whooping $50 and potential shot at playoffs vs agent. Something not to be ignored in these dark days for a Quaker. So what does lordsoth do? He gets this wild idea that lars and Spart1e should play again to determine who's 5th, even though they already played, even though lars already won and even though lars is ranked above Spart1e on the official brackets** of GT QL Duel Cup. Lordsoth likes Spart1e. We all do. Spart1e is a bigger name. We all know. Does Spart1e need money more than lars? Perhaps. But does it make it right? No. Not by a long shot.
What does this even mean for anyone else? Play in our cups and if you're lucky we let you keep the ranking you've earned? That's hardly motivating or fun for anyone invested in the cups, from players to spectators. Are we really turning from this pure form of e-sports that our community has preserved in to WWE where every basement admin thinks he's Vince McMahon? It certainly seems that way. If we as a community allow these basement admins like Nico & lordsoth to tell us that it's ok if you cheat as long as you're popular* or that you won't be ranked as high as you earned because you're less popular**, then we might as well pull the plug on all the servers and go play Overwatch since popularity is only thing that matters there, just ask winz***. It only means that not only did we fail as a community, we've lost our essence, our pure esport soul as well for a dozen of views more.
