who needs bots? spiter bots in q3 were brutal.... and still so predictable and easy to beat. You wont ever get bots which will be fun to play like human opponents. Especially because bots dont flame, whine or insults and this belongs to quake!

Of course it will always be more fun to play vs real opponents, but quake 3 bots were really fun as well, and quite a challenge on nightmare on most maps.

Let's just all admit that no matter the end result of qc, the devs won't be able to please everyone. Unless they allow the community to modify the code it's a pipe dream molded by nostalgia.

the chance to create mods for qc are about 50:50 since they are thinking about a f2p business model so mods wont ever be allowed. In F2P is more money in it than a usual game so its not unlikely.

No. People forget so quickly. That is what rail and lg used to be. The increased rocket damage is to balance them, as with quakelive, instead of lowering the rail and lg. The large health pool makes it too easy to back and recover from mistakes. Larger damage would reward creativity and taking chances.

Good point, but it would also make the superior aimer a bit overpowered and diminish tactical play a tad too much with the dmg's you stated. Now the aimbased player can rely even more on his aimskill. I understand since you're an agressive aimer and hate the fact people +b 24/7 against you.

The backing potential is indeed horrible in QL. Reducing rail dmg/increasing reload time or reducing rocket splash dmg/range/speed would be a better option in my opinion, still rewarding risk, aimbased playstyle, chance taking and keeping the tactical facet intact.

Also keep in mind, it's 2016, 80%+ people has good hardware, ping and equipment to hit solid %'s. Making QC more aimheavy would taint the other nice aspects the game provides.

Strategy is just as effective, and I would say even more effective, as if you have made good strategic choices, it is easier for you to kill your opponent and more difficult for your opponent to rely on his aim and fast reflexes to react.

The only time an aimer will have an advantage is at the start of the game/simple situations.

They went the right way, people are to obsesed with their QL and also "disapointed" because id was slacking in support for "new/old" features and not making ql free and pussy opinions like that. ... so people would just destroy id, if they would interduce qbilities in ql.

We didn't know explicitly about "powers" or "abilities" but we knew about what was called "classes" in 2013. In any case the name "Quake Champions" is explicit enough to refer to abilities IMO and it was also registered in 2013.

Imo, it isn't explicit, at all. Having different classes is a thing since the early 2000s with Team Arena, and many characters were popular since the beginning, Sarge with his epic CGI intro (i must have watched that 30 times), Orbb with his alien abnormity, etc; having champions belong to distinct classes based on their guessed roles and structures is in a different ballpark than having Overwatch-styled individual cooldown powers.

So much that it's hard to believe they got the idea first, giving how they never even hinted at "something new" "something revolutionary" or whatever.

Overwatch has been pretty much the very first mainstream fps to have that kind of dynamic, and it's been an hazard in itself; most players were skeptic it could have worked or be balanced enough to be funny before it came out.

Meanwhile former id has been very conservative and closed to changes. The best example is Quake 4, that was supposed to revolution the whole fps genre, a paradigm shift, introduce dynamics never tought off, and that turned out to be a reskinned quake 3 with some physics changes.

And ql 2.0 didn't even have those expectations, it was just meant to be ql on better graphics. So it's pretty unbelievable the "powers" idea isn't just a copy of Overwatch's, like so many other games are trying and will try to replicate.

Well I personally dislike the name "Quake Champions" because the word "champions" nowadays is associated with MOBA. It's interesting to see that it doesn't evoke the same feelings for everyone.

To most gamers, "champions" probably reminds of League of Legends and Dota, but to me and maybe to some other long time quakers makes to think to the "champions" we've grown with, Ranger, Doomguy, etc

I would love to see more than the 'holy trinity' actually get some use. Maybe a diesel 120dmg SG with huge spread. Also a really powerful hyperblaster from q4 would be awesome (faster and smaller shots maybe like 17dmg). And maybe a stake gun ala painkiller. Lets see some new creative frags in QC!

I have played so little of Q2 , but as a q3 player, I always liked throw grenades with delay. all 3 guns you mentiones would be awesome.

I just hope they don't make rail too strong which it is in Q3 and QL imo. Instant zoom with no downside like in QL is very powerful, just remove zoom altogether, it should be hard to hit long range shots.
I believe the game would be better if rail dmg was lowered, so you can use it to deal some dmg at range but you get destroyed at close range by short range weapons.

Quake should have something to increase the use of close range weapons and promote aggressive play imo. It's difficult to close down people who +back and spam. I'm not really sure how to do it well but one thing I thought about was maybe adding a slow to shotgun, say if you deal 50+ dmg with a shot your opponent gets slowed for 1 sec or something :D

one of the reasons we want 100 rail dmg is to counter +back style since you rarely get close to them...
rail is the weapon of choice vs defensive play

I would prefer better ways to close people down, aggressive in your face style is more fun to play and watch for me.

with QC you can be more aggresive, just choose scalebarer to bull rush or the other chick to insta tele to +backer position.

imagine this: score 1-0 and then.... a sound of the enemy -> +back tele, see a pixel from the enemy -> +back tele, hear a teleportationsound next to you -> +back tele away.
And sometimes teleportation to RA/MH and then instantly back to superior position.

you forget the tele cooldown you cant just tele like mad... you have prolly like 30 sec cooldown.

i would say they just haven't found a counter tactic to +back, which is:

Disengage +forward and find him in a another spot.
Disengage +forward and go alter route with rocketjumps and get behind his back.

Rail is one of the strongest +back weapon too. So it's completely the opposite. You have to lower that dmg in order to force them to play face to face.

true but a +back guy can use almost every weapon (eg nades/rockets to block the way)
an attacker is forced to use hitscan weapons (mg/sg lol, lg/rail) and a hardcore +back guy always keeps distance and takes the backup route instantly so most times you got about 1-2 sec to do some damage.
