Haven't been following the SC2 scene for a while now - which closet did this voregina come out of ? Has he been a pro for long?

I am not an "expert" of sc2 scene either, but he said it's his first tournament won. More details here:

he won a open tourney with a weak qualifier (i.e. not a GSL/SSL) in the weakest period of competition since 2010 in Korea. He almost didn't qualify for the event, too. But w/e right? a western won against koreans so he must be a god XD XD /sarcasm

about the level of competition: honestly I watched many SC2 tournaments since WoL but I don't have such a good memory or great level of understanding of starcraft in general to contradict you here.

about his performance: he played very well, most of his games showing that he can compete with any good korean pro at their level of performance. He handled their pressure, their tactics in terms of army positioning and harassing in all of the 3 types of games short/medium/long.

He even knew when to dominate the mind of his opponent by destroying his confidence with little things like in game 3 versus "Trap". "Trap" was down 0-2 and he badly needed a victory, so from the beginning of the match he progressively killed his early units (probes, stalker and a few sentries) and afterwards he rushed him with stalkers and adepts killing his disruptors and winning the game. That victory mentally defeated Trap. That victory won him the the tournament.
When you can do all those things mentioned above in any tourney you are a little GOD, for a short period of time of course.

I was waiting for the "that's nothing, the only valid korean tournaments are the ones in which all of the top koreans ever play at the same time" post.

Yeah, I agree it's pretty funny and cool. I stopped following and playing sc2 with the end of WoL. Maybe would still follow it if Idra was still around. But instead we get HuK embarassing himself by pretending to be an Overwatch-"Analyst". Why in the world would he qualify for that?

There's the rub though, eh? Why did Neeb win now when Nani/Snute didn't those years past? Is Neeb really that much better then prime Naniwa / Snute?

Personally I feel pity for Neeb, because his story is like that of a warrior who travels the long path to conquer the greatest, only to find that the princess is indeed in another castle.

Sure, a win's a win. However, context is key.

Naniwa ... never really that stable, mentally and otherwise.
Snute is very very unstable and always has been, he's basically the evil of quake. Destroying and random small events and cups, but always chokes in every final he gets into.
