This reminds me that my QL crashes (just keeps looping the loading screen over and over) whenever trying to create a local match, whether practice or training.

bot_challenge makes the bots aim better. Not related to the way they dodge/move.

It does help lp along with bot aasoptimize and bot_show then press taband make all those values 1 also.

Why would you want to? Its completely inapplicable to a real game.

actually it is to some extent. Ofc bots are bots, their dodging patterns are relatively predictable (with bot_thinktime 0 and knockback 0, because without these commands a normal nightmare bot actually has pretty predictable movements). But if you hit 60+% on this kind of bot in the conditions listed above, means that your mouse-aim can translate pretty well against human opponents.

ofc if you play bots 24/7, you'll reach a point where what you learned about the dodge pattern won't translate that well on human opponents with completely different movements, that's why you have to play human opponents aswell.

and even if it wasn't it would still be a good way to warmup mouse-aim.

it's pretty much the same exercice that boxers are using when they punch the bag :)

its likely to build bad habits, better than nothing if you have no other options though i guess

No, finished real FFA game with 63% lg @ 9 kill. The highest percentage vs. bots was 65 during a ~15 min session.
Overall average vs. bots is about 55, but /care, since I always change something in *.cfg - now even sens -, so the 'background' is not consistent at all.

selecting bones on thunderstruck forces him to take the MG because there is no SG on the map, the results are :

make sure not to ready up, just practice in warmup.
you can also change /timescale to >1 to make it more difficult.

you do that in order to change the name of bots

"free" stands for team (in teammodes you can do red or blue)

This is not good for two reasons.

When you play humans its usually online and you have netcode to factor in which you don't really get offline, ok you could simulate this by changing network settings and rate etc, but not the same.

Secondly, the way AI moves is different to humans.

Best off simply asking the other guy to warm up using shaft only, given its going to benefit you both knowing how you square up.

It doesn't take long to establish if the other guy is a better aimer than you in quake (especially with trace), so its something that is good to know, therefore, you should not have a problem finding someone happy to accommodate you before a duel.

I had always practiced LG on thunderstruck but this corner position on drunkenmummy seems much more challenging for mouse-aiming.

Just some suggestions for you:

"1°) First, go to "Start A Match" then select "Clan Arena" as gametype on any map"...

You can skip that, just type "devmap drunkenmummy ca"

For this corner position you end up wasting some time waiting for the bot to come to you, so I made a couple of binds:

bind mouse4 "timescale 1.0;print TimeScale 1.0"
bind mouse5 "timescale 3.0;print TimeScale 3.0"

Then I just hit mouse5 and as soon as the bot is near LG range I hit mouse4 :)

Another time saver I found:

g_respawn_delay_min "200" (default is 2100 = 2.1 seconds)
g_respawn_delay_max "200" (default is 2400 = 2.4 seconds)

Also for the sake of convenience and more time-saving I created a "botprac.cfg" for all the bot settings and bound a key to "exec botprac.cfg" :)

Oh also, I'm not sure if it's because of some difference in my settings or what but if I type "addbot slash 5" he keeps spamming me with rockets and the explosions block my view...

So Instead I'm using keel. He always sticks with the railgun and his dodge is hard to predict.

Anyway on to your challenge:

It took a good bit of work just to not completely fail at tracking the bot with such fast dodging at such close range, but after about 20-30 minutes I was able to break >60%. Highest I was able to sustain was 64-65% but only for like the first 4-5 kills then I would always have a shit round and my acc would drop to ~60 again. My best 10 kill accuracy was 61% so far.

I wish there was a way to reset/clear the +acc window so I could see accuracy for each kill and then have scoreboard to show cumulative accuracy... ah well :)

I'm the type of player where I'm always trying to come up with effective mental 'tricks' to improve my performance. Doing this mouse-aim only training I found the most effective 'trick' was to realize that the bot never stops he always strafes left and right, so if you smoothly swipe your aim left and right and sorta 'sync' up with the bot so your swipe speed matches the speed of the bots strafing. Then another 'trick' is to visually look+aim only into the 'width' that the bot is currently strafing in, you sorta keep your aim 'inside' the strafe. Last 'trick' is whenever you are off, you need to snap your aim onto the bot and *immediately* with the same muscle motion begin a swipe in the direction the bot is strafing. So snap on into a smooth swipe. Hope that makes sense, I'm gonna see if I can actually hit 70% without the bot jumping :D

Originally I tried adding slash but somehow he would have rocket launcher even though I have g_startingWeapons "64" which should mean railgun only on spawn... but he'd have rockets anyway and he would just constantly spam me with rockets and fuck up my view with explosions...

So I used keel instead because he actually sticks to the railgun only and his dodge pattern seemed to be identical or just as good as slash but maybe I judged too soon?

Ok I updated my botprac.cfg to use slash instead of keel and it seems to be working now, he sticks to railgun only... which makes me think, should I be restricting the bot to a different weapon than railgun? Like would another weapon effect the dodging pattern?

which works, but when I hit my bind that does "give all" it reduces my 999 armor to 200 for some reason?

But that isn't effecting the bots armor, which you can tell by the endgame screenshot I finish 10 kills with 20k damage, which 20k/10 = 2000 damage per kill.

then I tried new coollers cfg with big black crosshair 4 (my sens/accel) and instantly started hitting 60+% lol

This was quite funny but for someone that don't really play a lot of QL are there any more bot commands that could affect the test?

What i mean is i basically don't have a super custom cfg, fiddled with tons of settings, i think i've just changed a few things in the menus, res,sens etc. I basically just downloaded QL via steam followed He4rTL3sS instructions in the first post and had fun.

Do these commands provided give everyone a simmilar bot dodging experience or should i change something somewhere? Like i don't even remember if there is a bot diffuculty setting somewhere :D

I used to do the opposite of this...i made a simple map a long time ago that keeps the bot locked into 1 side of the map so you can practice lg at any range.

I'm right with you He4rTL3sS at 62%. It almost seems unreal to hit more than that. I'll keep you updated if I surpass 62%.

To me this exercise has little to do with actual LG skill verses real players. Reason being no one dodges like this bot. So basically you are training for a situation that will never happen. It would be interesting if parsing this data could tell us something else though.
