Also killing off pests and individual animals who attack cattle or come to close to people. killing is an extension of our survival instinct, as is our competitive instinct, as both allow us to survive over others. cannibalism, for social specie, is a wrong instinct, on the other hand, so most likely you are personifying animals too much, so between you and 'psychos', you might have more of a pathology.

Trophy hunting has nothing to do with survival, as its not hinting for food. I dunno what you mean by competitive instinct. If you are talking about asserting dominance over a rival predator then its bullshit, because we have no rival predators (we are apex and all animals fear us). On the other hand you may be talking about competition between human hunters.

Thrill of the kill is what motivates trophy hunters and that's the simple truth. I'm not personifying the animals and I don't even care too much for animal death as long as its not putting the survival of the species at risk. I see a cat killing a bird, a lion tearing up an antilope or a man decapitating a chicken and I don't get upset. However crippling and killing an animal for no good reason other than to satisfy some primal instinct is not something average person does.while I don't see the death of that animal as some colossal tragedy I see the pathology in the action of the killer. He puts his short term kill boner relief above his logic and shows 0 empathy, or he just doesn't grasp that he just eneded something to get that short moment of satisfaction.

What I mean is, experimenting that thrill is not a pathology, something rare and condemnable in itself. It's how humans and all predators work.

Think of cause-consequence: the fact of experiencing pleasure when killing cannot be condemned, and it's not something psycho to experience it and animals do kill for pleasure all the time (rip all the birds my dog has killed), but the killing itself can be condemnable. both due to the negative consequence itself of death and the person putting his own pleasure over social values, as that is an asshole that rationalized becoming an asshole.

But then again it's hard to be a preacher and condemn people when all the time we eat/kill animals for pleasure when we could be eating a salad (just had a pretty damn tasty broasted chicken), or could be using our time helping the planet and other people rather than posting on online forums or playing videogames for our own sake, entertainment, fun and thrill. And at the same time these days it's impossible to be Mother Teresa anyway, as we all involuntarily hurt animals and the planet every single day since every product we consume and use is obviously based on something natural to begin with; we can't create matter therefore everything artificial is in fact based on nature and ultimately means harming or killing something for our benefit (rip the brave cochineals that die to color "natural foods" such as dairy products).

edit: Regarding your last paragraph, what he said is something different than what you wrote. He said that it is a pathology to put animals on the same level as humans. He didn't say it is a pathology to condemn killing. And well, his actual statement is right because that would go against our own survival instinct, as a species.
To that I'll add that while many people preach animals=humans on Facebook, in practice no one (sane) in a life or death situation would actively save an animal instead of saving a human being (rip harambe tho).

Every person is different and so is every animal.
It depends on the bond between the two and the character & upbringing of the person.

I really wouldn't fancy your chances of survival if you asked the average person in my country to sacrifice their beloved dog, to save a random person, just because you're a human.

I just read the pathology part again and i realized i misunderstood the first time. And i agree, people who think of their pets as equal to humans arent completely sane. No normal person wants to be harassed by dogs in coffe shops, have them chew on your laces, jump on the chair and bark at eachother. Dont get me started on those who think their dog/cat or whatever is their child.

back to the topic of feeling the thrill of killing. The only time i remember killing something, other than an insect, on purpose is when i impaled a rat who crawled from the sever to my toilet on a piece of rebar. While i experienced nothing but disgust looking at the gore, i am sure id feel remorse if i did the same thing to a rodent somewhere in a forest where it poses no threat to me. I understand that some people feel the rush when they kill an animal, but acting on your instinct to kill for fun, while you know its not right and feeling no remorse after is not knowing or ignoring whats right and whats wrong. You get bonus points for posing with the kill smiling. isnt not knowing the right from wrong or not caring about it the definition of psycho/sociopath?

lets say i feel the urge to have sex with a particular woman and shes not compliant, should i do it? I mean animals do it and people used to and in some cultures they still do. It was normal at one point in history. Thats an extreme example and i dont mean to equate hunting and rape or humans and animals, but this follows the same logic.

About spycho/sociopathy: Some people have these traits and they have em to varying degree. its not an illness. A huge portion of people who have these kinds of personality traits are well adjusted and blend in applying external moral codes they learn from society. They are even better suited for certain high stress jobs. Its not a shame to have urges, its a shame to act on them is my point
