last one looks like q3dm7 and 14 prototype :O looks like they decide to put statues only on q3dm1(?) all that empty space... it could be percect for upcoming QC, or some CA :P

They were just made to show off the different things the engine could do like the fog, mirror, textures and curved surfaces etc. Wasn't meant as a playable map.
that q2 influence is very nostalgic ... but i also like they were able to move on artistically and make the atmosphere even richer in q3 and expand that in ql.
To me Q3 had a more appealing style than QL. For example dm13 (nodm9) and eviscerated look much, much better and richer in Q3.
The only thing added in QL was bloom, which does not equal better graphics per se. And of course that Q3 to QL transition had a much bigger negative impact presentation wise, which is that QL's positional sound is much worse than Q3's.
